I watched the newest episode of My Hero Academia.
That was a fun one. |
We watched the first 7 episodes to a series called Last Exile. I've had this DVD set for at least two years now so I felt it was a good time to finally watch it. So far it's all right. I didn't find them to be so great I needed to watch the next disc immediately after, but I'm intrigued enough to watch the next disc. The soundtrack is outstanding, the animation is pretty good, while the characters are there. I can't say any one of them has really stood out to me.
|
I remember Last Exile on G4 back in the early-mid 2000's. I remember it being a decent show.
|
Finally started Ranma 1/2 the other day I was interesting all i kept saying was "hey look boobs XD" but over all seemed interesting
|
So we watched the next disc to Last Exile (8-14) and I'm starting to get bored. Except for this white hair kid named Dio, none of the characters are even remotely interesting and it feels like the plot has just completely stalled. The last four episodes were exceptionally uninspiring. Also, for being 14 episodes into it, they still haven't explained anything about how this world works. Who is at war? Why is there a war? What caused this war to occur? Who is The Guild? Why are people afraid of The Guild? Why do they make the rules of the kingdom? What exactly makes up a kingdom? How is the emperor chosen? None of these have been answered at all. So far the best episode was the one with the Chocobo Racing (as I call it). I've invested in it this far, so I'm going to finish the series, but at this point I know this is a series I will never bother to revisit.
|
I have not seen the series in over 10 years, I don't plan on re-watching it from what I've seen. Gonzo is a mixed bag for me with anime. I did like Trinity Blood, but I'm mixed with everything else.
|
For Gonzo, I love Gankutsuou (my favorite anime ever) and Speed Grapher, really like Samurai 7 and Trinity Blood, but then after that, it's hazy on what is theirs and what isn't that I like.
|
I never got into Samurai 7. I got half way through the anime and drop it back in 2009.
|
Gonzo did Shangri-La and that was good but the last two episodes sucked due to how much plot was crammed in.
Curious on people's thoughts of Prison School. Also I like to ask for help on trying to find a show that I saw a scene of when I was 7 so 2002 (maybe very early 2003 but I doubt that). I doubt anyone would know it but its worth a shot. My memory is very vague on the details but the scene has a guy who might of had white hair and a drench coat like outfit. He was in what could of been a cave or slightly dark room of some kind I think a woman was with him too. Someone who I think was a villain was talking to him and for some reason when I try to remember what the villain looked like all I can think of is an evil doctor clown. He was telling white hair dude something then white hair dude held up what I can best describe from my child memory as a red, crystal that looked like rose if the petals pointed up into spikes. The woman said something like no don't, then the white hair dude took a bite from the crystal which caused him to transform into a creature. I don't know how to describe the creature but my memory is making me think of a white dragon like thing like the mecha from Escaflowne mixed with a form from the game Bloody Roar. The only other clue is that what looked like XPlay started to play maybe at most a minute after. So it might of been on G4 or my nerdy brother and uncle changed it to G4 soon after the scene. Any ideas to what I saw would be greatly appreciated. This is and two weird transforming toys I have that were a part of something are big mysteries to me from my childhood that I liked to solve. Especially after finding out what the toys were a couple years ago. |
Kabukibu is starting to take shape as of episode 3.
|
So I watched episodes 14-16 of Last Exile and I can't do it anymore. I feel like I was watching an entirely different show and I just don't have the motivation to finish it. UGH! I hate feeling this way when I'm so close to the end of a series.

Well we finished the last 7 episodes to Space Dandy tonight. The episode that took place on Planet Limbo was down right awesome. I loved the death song. The one with the disco one was not bad as the disco music did not suck as badly as it could have. Still find it weird the planet was called Grease though when it dealt with disco. The others were kind of good, but the ending annoyed me to now end. Such a god damned copout. I'm so glad I did not continue to watch this show once a week when it initially aired. I feel bad for those that did.
Now don't get me wrong, there were interesting aspects to the reveal about Dandy and why it seems like continuity does not matter, but I've seen the ending itself done many times beforehand, and done better. Wolf's Rain and Big O, for example. In the end, I'm going to give the show a 7/10. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it did keep me entertained. My top favorite episodes are the Limbo one, the one with the Skull Kid, the racing one, the zombie one, and the multiverse of Dandy's one. Oh yeah, the Ultraman joke was hilarious. |
Seems like Attack on Titan season 2 will have the pacing issue of season 1 which will suck.

Why would you think it would possibly cover that much content in 12 episodes?? It's covering just one arc. |
Quote:
The arc starts when the Beast Titan first apears and goes until they get to Eren's basement. |
I watched the dubbed episode 3 on Toonami and it just felt like not much really happened. Also its going to end most likely with the reveal of the Armor and Colossus. Though I have no clue how long the Clash of the Titans Arc is in the manga.

Anyone got a suggestion for a good blu-ray player? My friend and I plan to watch anime together every week this fall and he's gone for the summer. I prefer watching stuff on blu-ray since I'd rather not rely on having to use the internet and we're directly supporting the creators. We have been using my PS3 but I'd rather not wear down my PS3's blu-ray laser any further, but there's nothing wrong with it.

Powerman my advice is go to Amazon,Walmart,Bestbuy etc and search for Blu Ray players and look at reviews for the ones in your price range*how much you're willing to spend*. But a cheap one like this https://www.walmart.com/ip/LG-BPM25-...layer/46883049 should do the job if all you want to do is play the disks. |
I thought he was asking on what anime to watch on Blu-Ray player. My bad :(.

Ok its official Attack on Titan Season 2 sucks. The dub is about at halfway through with episode 6 airing in two weeks. Pacing is crap, back history that honestly does nothing for me. In a show where any character could die at any moment, I should give a fucking shit but nope. Now I am probably being too harsh on this season and I will admit that. But after years of wait we are only going to get twelve fucking episodes for season 2. From what I have seen and my brother who is watching the sub, it doesn't seem to be getting better. For those who have not yet seen the season yet, I suggest you just wait till it is finished to binge watch it. With that you should have a better time than I am.

I wanted to like Attack on Titan because it had a solid first episode and I like the concept behind it. However I find the characters dull and I give up on the show after episode 6.
I also recently got up to Tokyo Ghoul at episode 7. I still don't like the show and I will probably drop it. The show has cool action scenes, but I really don't like the story and characters. This show feels nothing new or special to me. I can see why it is popular with the current gen of anime fans (kids, teens and early 20's adults), but there are better action horror anime out there in my opinion. |
Sounds like I should just stick to the manga and forget the anime even exists.

If I didn't like the adaption, I can't see myself liking the source material any better. It's like when people tell me to read the book of The Hunger Games because I didn't like the first movie.
My biggest issue with Tokyo Ghoul is that I find the story and characters not interesting. I'm so sick of the "Main character starts off as a wimpy shy human and slowly becomes some type of badass later on". This trope has been done to death that I'm bored of it. Not to mention I also find the animation to be lack luster at times from looking "That was very nicely animated" to "Wow they must have run low on money fast". The series wants to introduce some deep philosophy behind humans oppressing ghouls but the ghouls literally only survive by eating humans and are complete sociopaths with no regard for human life. Too bad none of it was done very well in my opinion. I may sound harsh on the show, but I really did not like it at all. I guess the hype of the show really hurt it for me. |

3 years later, a new season, with only half as many episodes comes out and it's STILL slow as fuck with pacing |

Which does make the second season being short real disappointing. But I don't think it's awful for that... It's still good for what it is adapting. |
I have no issue with the pacing of AoT S2 at all. With how it's been going it's been faster than S1 in terms of pacing and action. Not every episode can or honestly should be a titan battle or slaughter fest. The world-building and slower-paced development and character moments are just as needed.

The anime blows through a lot of the development or just skips it outright in order to make it more of a shonen action series, and then season 2 (Root A) just completely abandons the manga. Trust me when I say this, the manga is FAR superior. There's much more focus on the ghouls as individuals and Kaneki struggling with how he has to live. Anyways, I've been watching Gunbuster. The pacing is a bit odd, but it's actually kind of refreshing. I'm REALLY enjoying it so far, and about to start episode 5. |
