Been ages since I watched any Toku, so I decided to watch some more MMPR now I have the figuarts. And trust the episode to be mind numbingly stupid. Yes I know it's a giant robot pterodactyl but if you can fly that, why is flying a plane such a daunting concept? All the drama and tension of this episode was lost for me. Why not put one of the Rangers in this situation who didn't have a flying mech? Oh yeah because common sense is something this show lacks...
Wasn't Snizzard the one voiced by Brian Cranston? Shame he was just sorta tacked on at the end. |
That episode was awesome. I loved the whole comment Kimberly makes to Bulk, "Well, this plane is small and uh..."
And what does her having a flying mech having to do with anything? A mech is not an airplane. |
Watched the Clash of the Red Rangers movie, the RPM side was completely underrepresented, the Samurai guys are goofy, and Scott was kind of a jerk.
And yet I didn't hate it, it was goofy and silly, but it worked for me, besides they were making fun of themselves all the time, and that's what made it work, also :lolol at the sports car Power Symbol. That said I watched the latinamerican dub, since I'm not that fond of the original actors acting. |

The following episode of MMPR was another shit one. Did they not watch Zyuranger first? Everything 'Power Rangers' about this show seems so shamelessly tacked on, I mean have we had what, three episodes now focused around Billy wanting to learn to defend himself after getting constantly picked on, despite by this point seeing him take down monsters singlehandedly and all the rest?
I understand Power Rangers is a learning curve and this was their first attempt but this stuff seems so ridiculously basic, I can forgive the show to extents but it's like the show went out of its way to make sure nothing in MMPR matches with what was in Zyuranger. Eurgh... Oh well, I'm almost at the Green Rangers introductory arc, I'm gonna watch that and then drop this awful awful show. |

I try, I try so hard to enjoy the show. I make excuses for the show, I get myself in the right frame of mind, wear my nostalgia goggles but I'm sorry this show is just bad. Y'know, this is your first go so I don't expect a perfect show, or a perfect blend of Zyu and MMPR but Mighty Morphin doesn't feel like it's trying at all, they basically made Saved by The Bell and for four minutes of every episode they change the channel to a Japanese show called Zyuranger before changing back with barely a mention that it happened. |

You say that is stupid, but do you really think it is easy to cut and paste footage in mere minutes? I'd like to see you do what these guys did back in the 90s. Regardless of what you think of the final product, I can definitely tell you they worked their asses off to make the show. And remember, MMPR is the first time they ever attempted something of this caliber. Do you really think they know exactly how to do it in the very beginning? Also, Saban initially wanted to do Bioman back in 84, and then he tried again with Jetman in 91. Guess what did not exist in any of those series? A SIXTH RANGER!! |
If they really did work that hard, it doesn't come across in the show at all, and the final product is largely awful.

All right, I want to see you take the footage from a ZyuRanger episode, write a story around it, make sure the story is something that is acceptable by FCC kid regulations, film it in 2 days while you are filming three other episodes at the exact same time, and have the entire episode edited together by Friday so the effects people can add anything, the cast can rerecord dialog that was distorted by the environment, add all of that in, so the episode can air next Monday. |

They should have based the heroes for example around the personality shown through fights, not just awkwardly smash two completely different characters into one another. They should have found ways to actually relate the American story and the Zyu battle together beyond either tacking it on or connecting it with the most tentative links possible and they really should have done a better job with blending it visually as well, considering pretty much none of the Zyu fight locations are identifiable at all so it really makes no sense why they can't match it up. These aspects are inexcusable, even with all the restraints you claim they had. |
Okay guys, move along before this becames another war.
|
nowadays they could probably do it more effectively depending on budget because of the digital editing technology we have available it wouldn't take so much time. The way they did it back then it took a lot of man hours just to edit anything. We have it so good these days with digital footage.

It's a shame Kyoryujin himself is such a bore to watch.
It's too bulky to move, so all fights tend to either use CG as a massive crutch (Ironically), or it fights in a dull and predictable manner due to it's limited range of movement. |

lol The Go-Buster mecha completely ruins the show. If I want to see talking cars with big anime eyes, I'll watch Cars.

Or maybe this? You know, if you want to see talking cars get destroyed while singing an upbeat little tune about their own mortality. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-UfsEj7AOGI Still watching Overdrive. Say, did Satoru get electrocuted by GoGo Drill when when he first tried driving it? Because I really don't like it when Rangers can't properly use a Zord that has no supernatural properties and yet SOMEHOW starts zapping or trying to dispose of a new pilot. If the thing has poor handling or accelerates at the drop of a hat, that makes sense. But lightning causing Mack to flail in the cockpit makes me think Andrew Hartford needs to pull out a monkey wrench and start tinkering with the giant drill. |
NO thanks. I'll watch a Sentai series with mecha I can take seriously over Cars mecha.

So I push closer and closer to Tommy, but first another episode that obsesses over Billy and Kimberly's bodies, first they were the only ones who got turned into punks, now they've swapped bodies. Could you imagine though, in real life, what Billy would do if he got to control Kimberly's body? I don't blame the fella.
To be fair this episode wasn't that bad by MMPRs standards, at least stuff that happened in the American footage crossed into the Japanese footage to a point. |
Okay, 4 episodes of Dragon Knight to go.
While its really cool seeing the Ryuga suit more regularly and in a heroic role (especially since Dragon Knight is a bad guy at the moment), the Onyx deck has received no explanation whatsoever. The Ventara Riders knew nothing about it, but since Eubolon had it they've all just kinda accepted it as...there. |
just Started watching Power Rangers Light Speed rescue on Netflix
|
Ok on episode 4 of lightspeed rescue and god did they reuse mega ranger shuttle launch scenes for keilseys friend nancy.

Alright, made it to the Green With Evil Saga finally! I'm gonna watch these block of episodes, then drop this show.
So, Part 1, I have to say, this was fucking awesome! Minus the budget limitations with the Green Ranger's initial morph and Dragon Shield, and Trini and Kimberly dribbling over Tommy, the Green Ranger got to fuck up a damn lot of shit to really establish he means business and it was great. Even Tommy got a fair amount of good scenes to really establish why he'd be chosen, drawing in the martial arts competition with Jason and then taking down a bunch of putties, in a really impressive couple of action sequences. Even if JDF SUCKED at acting at this point. I also forgot the Green Ranger went all DBZ on their asses. Also it seems Goldar's voice actor changed, this is the one I remember, I always hated Goldar's voice, it was actually painful to listen to. Still, I missed these days when Goldar was an actual decent villain and not there for pure comic relief. Anyone else think it was awfully convenient the way Billy and Alpha were positioned when Alpha had to shutdown? I mean the show was notorious for the bullying for him being gay... Then again for a bunch of homophobes, the relationship between Zack and Jason is erm...very interesting. "Zack's Wax?" Jason giggles, before the two whip each other with clothes in glee. These two are about as straight as a circle. |
Part 2: One of the strangest parts of Part 2 is just how bad it made Jason look, it was Zack who kept his cool, who held the team together and really took a proactive stance to fix the mess. Jason completely crumpled under the stress and basically became the bully character he would be if this was any other show. Makes it seem like Zack should have been Red instead, as he has the better attitude and is just as good a fighter. Seems a real misstep to show up your Red this much. Hell they even did the most obvious thing with Zack as leader, go straight to Megazord!
How did they not know Tommy was the Green Ranger when he was the only other person in school dressed from head to toe in a single primary colour? I mean maybe he just liked green but it's kinda a big coincidence, I'm guessing those clothes were special ordered, hell he seems more into the whole colours in civilian form relating to my Ranger form than most of the actual Rangers do. Then again the acting is so poor in this show, I'm not surprised Jason didn't even notice a change in Tommy (arfarf I am hilarious). To be fair the villains are extremely effective here, their plan might not exactly be genius or grandiose but they sure get the job done. It's amazing that after doing nothing for 16 episodes these now may be the most effective villains in Power Rangers history. God I am enjoying this arc, if only the rest of the show was this good. |
Ok I forgot how much I loved light speed rescue carter and Ryan are so far my fave characters. Dana still the better actress I think between the 2 female rangers Kelsey sounds like she forcing here lines. Rest of the cast was good and I do like how there a lot American footage used with monsters due to the change of actress for vipra still the worst even now. Time force after this thanks to Netflix

Well, now that I have rewatched Shinkenger, I plan to watch Samurai starting tomorrow. With that said, I have been told most of the episode plots are exactly the same, so I'm not really going to watch every episode. Does anyone have an episode numbers I should watch? Such as anything that features the footage of Takeru and Juuzo fighting, the apperance of ShinkenGold, Dayuu's origins, obviously new mech upgrades, Akumaro's appearance and death, etc? I figure out of the 40 episodes I'll end up being able to skip a third of the series.
|
Green With Evil 3 was probably the weakest episode. I mean minus the Green Ranger who just spent the episode doing karate katas and shouting 'ayah' the villains are really enjoyable in this arc, I loved seeing Goldar going to town on that model city.
But everything else about this episode was stupid and it was full of plotholes. Since when was the Megazord solar powered? And I love how Jason was so useless they had to create a plothole for him to escape through. Plus Tommy is making no effort to hide his identity yet the arc continues to draw out his identity like it is meant to be some kind of mystery. That wasn't even mentioning Scorpina who was just kinda chucked in there for no reason. She is hot though. |

Isn't Clash of the Red Rangers just the cross over episodes?
Why is that there? Oh yeah, and odd, I thought Super Samurai was only 20 episodes. |
Part 4 was another weak one.
I like how Mighty Morphin can't even seem to grasp what a Power Ranger is. Over the course of these four Green with Evil episodes they've both reduced a Power Ranger to being simply a costume, all the way to some mythic transdimensional energy force. Also, why even disable their morphin if only in literally a minute of screentime Billy fixes it again? All the Megazord stuff was hella dumb as well, why do the Rangers care so much? There has been no sense of bonding or a friendship between the Rangers and their zords, it was just pointless melodrama when they got destroyed. Plus, solar power doesn't work that way. |
Well, I watched the first 5 episodes to Samurai, and I just don't get some of it. First off, I actually have no problem with them doing a direct adaptation of Shinkenger. In fact, I think that is pretty cool, except, it doesn't make sense to me. Jayden is way too friendly with the rangers from the get go, and open to them being there. The first episode already wrote off the entire kagemusha plot, which kind of sucks as it would have been interesting to see how Saban did it. Then you have episodes like the baseball kid. It was effective having him willing to give up his hobby to get his grandfather brought back to life in Shinkenger, but here, it just did not work. All he had to do was throw out his stuff? That is it? And it was because his dad is in the army? Where is the impact of that? The drama?
Also, I don't get the point of the Mega armor. Was it really necessary to shoot new footage in the mecha? The armor just looks dumb, as do the folding swords. However, when do I get to see them fight the monsters in that armor? It would be a waste to create your own costumes and not have the rangers actually use them any other time, regardless of how dumb they look. Finally, while I get where they are going with Spike being Skull's son, I am really getting tired of hearing him snort. |
