Up to 40 for Geki
The show's been nothing but great overall, and the episode with Retsu's doppelganger is actually played with Retsu's actor and his TWIN Retsu getting absolutely pissed on booze was surprisingly good That's the SECOND Sentai I've seen with a pedo joke and I've only seen 3, including Kyuranger Maki controling Grand Rhino King is fucking hilarious though And Jan's dad. Huh. I should have asked myself that question a long time ago |
Just watched the Ga-vansters episodes a bit ago. Yeah...this show has seen better episodes.
Forgot to mention this earlier, but I miss the old opening. The new one isn't bad, but I definitely liked the first one more. |
Finished MagiRanger from episodes 45-49 and that was a completely amazing finale, the whole Infershian Gods arc felt like a giant connected story. I loved so much of these episodes and this ties Kyoryuger for my favorite series. MagiYellow is my favorite of them and I also love MagiShine and WolzardFire; Hell I love the entire team they are one of the best teams ever. This show is brilliant.
Now to Car Magic! CarRanger Episode 42-43: Finishing the 3-Parter up here both episodes were simply brilliant. Exhaus is just a plain asshole villain, manipulating Gynamo from the beginning leading to all these events; Just makes me love him more as a villain lol. Dapp was crafty and kickass in 42 I was shocked he could beat up the Wumpers, hell I would have loved to see him become one of the Mentor Rangers that would have been amazing. VRV Master's identity was great to find out especially Dapp's feeling towards it. VRV Master was kick ass and heroic I love him beating down the Bowzock and helping Dapp escape Exhaus too. The CarRangers themselves were full of spirit and I loved how they all believed in themselves and didn't give up even when they were losing power without their bond with Dapp. Great teamwork with SignalMan too. Enjoyed Yoko and Minoru a lot with them not giving up and enjoyed everyone's spirit in not giving up and believing in themselves. Loved them fighting in the VRV Fighters till they regained power and loved the combi of both Giant Robo's fighting together against Exhaus's 3 Giant Robos. Great battle, great story, and it was just great at the end how they celebrated Christmas together. I can't wait for more. |
Watched up to the Christmas special for Geki, and I must say, I enjoyed it, the English kid saying "I don't understand a word you're saying" to Ken is outright hilarious and Santa Mele is adorbs
|
Up to episode 28 of Gingaman now.
So wasn't Budo supposed to be the best general or something? Because, as cool as his last episode may be, he spent 90% of his time literally sitting on his butt. All the incompetence of Sanbash with none of the pizazz. And now the new monsters are using crazy black magic(!) in their weekly plans, making them way more interesting the than the guy whose greatest legacy is arguably that time he went around blowing up tomatoes. Although that last episode DID involve him and his two remaining goons getting the attention of the heroes by randomly slaughtering some people. Or at least, I never saw them get up, and one of those guys had this happen to him: http://i.imgur.com/ZrbetK4.jpg Ouch. It's okay though. The lack of blood makes this scene totally kid-friendly. Honest! Anyway, the show's still pretty cool. Bull Black is the man and (spoilers I'm pretty sure everyone knows but still) the way he goes out is great. I also really liked the episode following cementing Ryouma's status on the team, even if it's a little undercut by them not waiting an extra episode to make Hyuuga the new Bull Black. The rest of the gang even makes him a themed costume well before he takes up the sword, or have any reason to believe he at any point will. Still, it was an enjoyable bunch of episodes. |
CarRanger Episodes 44-46: Just wanting to post about these episodes before I reach the finale so it's less of a post.
Episode 44: This was one of the episodes I watched of PR: Turbo and I was waiting for the CarRanger episode of this. I loved this episode a lot. Natsumi has great focus episodes, and I just enjoyed learning about her back story of wanting to be a mechanic because of her mentor. Also, that Dragon Cruiser helped her remember that cars have feelings too and that help her believe in herself to fix Dragon Cruiser. Also, Naoki and Minoru were both great here in supporting Natsumi and believing in her abilities as a mechanic and it wasn't just some legendary wrench that made her who she is. The car chase was a lot of fun and I just loved Natsumi kicking the Bowzock's ass and getting her wrench back by herself. So yeah Natsumi is awesome. Episode 45: Ah more of the Zonette/Red Racer well more the conclusion of it. I enjoyed Kyosuke so much this episode, he is one of the craziest Red Rangers ever with what he did to protect Zonette. Fighting the Bowzock and defeating it as Kyosuke instead of Red Racer was something else. I love also that White Racer's car did the UltraMan pose when it grew Giant. Also that White Racer's Robo and the VRV Fighters without Red Racer defeated the monster was great too. I love how they were all there wanting Kyosuke to express his feelings and doing all they can to make sure he had the time to do that. I am happy that Zonette and Radietta went back to help their planet against Exhaus there. Though I really was hoping to see Kyosuke and Zonette together. I felt bad for Gynamo though, he really loved her but she was just using him. Episode 46: Ah I believe part 1 of the 3 part finale. Well the shit seriously hit the fan here, but first the beginning. I loved how they all were acting silly and cocky about how they'll be fine and Dapp got upset with them only to find out the CarRangers have been training in their spare time and taking this seriously. I love how they all believed in training and wanting to protect the planet. The battle with the Final Folderon was hilarious with them saying isn't Five on One unfair and then they merged together. Though with Exhaus taking the powers of the constellations away this is turning into one hell of an event. I loved how everyone who didn't realize they were the CarRangers reacted to seeing them de-transform. Well I can't wait to see how they get past this. I will say Exhaus is just one heck of a great villain, also I enjoyed him funding Gynamo's wedding and that he will do about any random thing to succeed with his plan. CarRanger Episodes 47-48: Episode 47: This was a outstanding finale well continuing the second part of the 3 part ending. VRV Master saving them was great and makes sense he would help them out when Dapp was sleeping. SignalMan was great with his lines, courage, and well just kicking the crap out of all the Bowzock till the CarRangers came. The CarRangers-In-Spirit was great and I loved them all doing the pose not transformed and fighting the Bowzock not transformed was great for them too. Loved their courage. Also, was not expecting Zonette to come back and convince the Bowzock to switch sides and that they all share the same enemy of Exhaus. Kyosuke knocking out Gynamo was great and I loved them taking the Baribarian too. Episode 48 (Final): The finale was amazing! I loved them crashing the Baribarian to get their powers back. I am also so much happier with how this ended then how PR: Turbo ended that was completely something else. The battle was amazing though I wish we really could've seen Giant Gynamo vs Exhaus for a little bit. Gynamo was great though using the spoiled food to shrink Exhaus down was a brilliant move. The Giant Robo battle was something else and man both Robos did their best and I loved Kyosuke's leadership inspiring the whole team and all their confidence afterwards were great. Loved the final attack against Exhaus that was definitely showy. The ending afterwards was great with everyone from the CarRangers and the Bowzock partying together. I am happy that SignalMan is trying to become a Detective, Gynamo opened a restaurant, Zonette is still pining over Kyosuke, VRV Master and Dapp traveling the universe, and the CarRangers going back to their lives fixing cars at Pegasus. Overall just like MagiRanger another fantastic series and joins Kyoryuger and MagiRanger as my favorite Sentai's ever. =) |
Finished Geki. Amazing!
Started Dekaranger, sadly only TV Nihon subs are available. Hopefully it won't be like the infamous Magiranger quote they ha- "You kabuto bastard" "Tenbin-kun" *Translator's note, Tenbin means scales* Please tell me these get better or link a non download source for a different subber? EDIT: Just removed Magiranger, Gobusters, ToQger and Shinkenger from my backlogs as some of those have ESPECIALLY bad issues |

Yeah I get you, I just wasn't sure if you were still referring to subs when you mentioned those shows :lol
|
Just got to watch 2 Jetman episodes as I quit Deka as the word Seijin pops up without even a TL note. The Blue wanted 15 bucks to save the worlds. That's hilarious even if it was a lot back then
|
Quote:
Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed Gekiranger so much. |
Quote:
Yeah, Geki's great. Jan grew a lot on me even if Yamato's the best Red so far and Ran's the best Yellow so far too. |
Jan is loud and childish at times, but he's still really likable and enjoyable. I'm glad he grew on you.
I'm glad you like Ran, though. Raita from Jetman is the best Yellow in my opinion, but I do love Ran :lol |
Quote:
Heh, watching Jetman now so maybe Ran will be overthrown Speaking of, Jetman episode 4! So far I'm enjoying the show despite Ryu and Raita being a tad bland as of now but I like how the team of 5 needed a few episodes to be a team, I've always been in disbelief about a random group of people joining together with no quarrel. Ako's a highlight so far, being cheeky and a bit greedy. A see myself in her a bit so that's neat |
7 more episodes of Gingaman. This was another pretty strong stretch. The two-parter introducing the new mecha was great. I especially liked the first episode with Hikaru and Hyuuga getting captured. Good stuff. Speaking of good stuff, a general rule of thumb for Gingaman seems to be that episodes about Hayate are awesome. They've all been some of my favorites of the show. Not to put down the other episodes though. Gouki's romantic woes always make for fun plots.

Ran's pretty cool too though. |
I've kinda been switching back and forth between Hurricaneger and ToQger and
i'm enjoying ToQger a little bit more the suits don't bother me all that much and i just kinda enjoy the concept of ToQger |
Downloaded all of Gekiranger (This time with Hikari Senshi's subs, rather than TV-N's).
I'm hoping to use it to reinvigorate my super sentai spirits! Then maybe I'll be able to get back into Carranger :lol |
Jetman episode 8: I feel bad for the yellow. So far he's had nothing but get his veggies smashed and his nuts kicked multiple times
|
Started rewatching Gekiranger.
Gosh, I still love this show~ 3 episodes in so far. I forgot how active Mele was. I guess I'm more used to Rio doing more after he starts his personal training. Still, it's always nice :lol Not sure how I feel about these subs, though. They either translate everything, including character names, or pull a TVN on me and make sure there's a good chunk of Japanese in every sentence. I'm glad they figured out a way to translate Jan's onomatopoeia, but come on. |

Yeah. In the "Wildranger" version of the subs, he's Leo.
Not really the worst translation, since it is accurate. |
Watched through episode 42 of Gingaman. Some scattered thoughts:
- Okay, first off, can I just mention that Bull Black is one of my favorite designs in Sentai? Like, wow, what a cool suit. I want a V-Cinema buddy cop movie with him and Wolzard or something. I don't know how that would make any sense, or what motivation Toei would have to make it, but a guy can dream. :lol - I love how with the addition of Giga Vitus and crew, the mecha fights now follow a distinct formula of "form Gingai-Oh", "Gingai-Oh gets its paint slightly scratched", and then "Oh no, this guy's way too tough for us to handle! Giga Vitus!". To be fair, I guess it would be pretty unexciting for the new guys to just chill in that waterfall 24/7. - My theory about Hayate getting the best episodes still stands. 36 was all about him and Yuuta's dad saving the day and it was amazing. - Also, similarly to the Hayate theory, anytime there's a two-parter, it's awesome. - And a quick shout-out to the obligatory "monster that isn't really a bad guy" episode. I'm a sucker for those plots and this one was great. Plus I like Hikaru a lot so it's even better! - I'm starting to appreciate Ryouma a lot more. There's a nice subtle arc to him that I wasn't really noticing at first. He's still as quick to act as ever, but instead of being pure bravado, it's more genuine confidence now. Quote:

Black Knight is an awesome suit. I love it so much. Always been a fan~
I love how they call the Giga mechs, too. You could lightly nudge GingaiOh and they'd be screaming for GigaVitus :lol Sucks that GigaVitus itself participates in a whole 3 fights. And I know that Geki is always good. It's just that it sparks up that childish glee that has me smiling like an idiot (Or Jan~) while watching it :lol EDIT: Episode 4. I forgot about the poisoned fight with GekiTouja. It's great. It's so great to watch. I love it when mecha fights are like this. The 5 vs 1 handicap fills you with tension and the action is intense. I also love that they didn't actually win. They merely got an antidote. And that's the best part. They didn't win. Xia Fu couldn't match with Rio, and the Gekirangers were leagues below the Venom Fists. It was only through sportsmanship did they survive. I love it~ I was just gonna watch the show at my leisure and gush about it at random intervals, but eh. I've done the episode recaps for Jetman, Dekaranger, and Gingaman, so why not do it for my personal favorite, too? I know how things are gonna play out in the end, so it's not exactly a rediscovery, but hey. My depression kicked in full force last month, so why not just have something to enjoy this month? :p |
I'm nearing the end of Gokaiger, love this show, it just fires on all cylinders for me. Really fun and gets me into that Super Sentai zone. And I love the way they humanize Gil a little bit there, the whole way things go there is just really entertaining. He's a nutty evil villain, but seeing the perspective of him and his peers is almost Gundam-ish, really like how they characterized the villains there. Dark comedy in a way. And has been one of my fav sets of heroes too.
I also watched episode 3 of Liveman, picking up where I left off a couple years ago, very cool episode! I think this'll be my choice for second Super Sentai series to finish after Gokaiger. Fun going back and forth between new stuff, retro stuff, lighter shows, darker shows, all good. |
Gekiranger 5 and 6.
The first two of the Five Venoms fall, and in a great decision, they fall to Ran and Retsu, respectively. I love it. First is Kademu and his 1000 punches, who takes a loss because he just punches randomly, while Ran's Cheetah Fist is technically slower, but she's far more precise and accurate. When applied in an actual fight, she was the only one actually landing hits. Great~ Next is Moriya, who can walk on walls. Shame he forgot he also had that super poison *Coughs* Oh well. They were in suit the whole time. Guess he needed skin contact to apply it. Still, Retsu beat him because he was fighting for feeling, not solely to win. Not quite as good as Ran's fight, but still, it was cool. Very gravity defying, but cool nonetheless :lol I loved seeing both Ran and Retsu training to tackle their objectives. Catching falling leaves to display both speed and accuracy, and training while basically grappling a building to get adjusted to fighting on a vertical scale. Meanwhile, Rio and Mele are searching for the Madoku/true poison, a special technique that one of the 5 venoms know that grants the ability to restore life. I already know who it is, but still, it's cute to see Mele all pouty during Moriya's fight because she knows he's a bit of a loser and he doesn't have it :lol Also, foreshadowing for Retsu's brother, who doesn't appear until the early 20's. Man, I love this show~ |
Up to Jetman 15. Maybe it's because I'm spoiled by Geki and Zyuoh but this feels like a considerable downgrade now that I think about it. Characters aren't as likeable, Raita could just as well be a Kyuranger character from how little screen time he gets in comparison, I don't like Jet Icarus AT ALL, but it's still very enjoyable to watch
|
I'm up to episode 6 of Hurricaneger and so far i like all of the Hurricaneger's and even Oboro and the Headmasters are very likeable characters.
I'm so glad i dumped Kakuranger for this season |
And now I'm through with Gingaman. It was... something.
I'm not very inclined to argue with the opinion that it's mostly just pretty average, but I also don't think that's necessarily an insult to it. I wasn't anywhere near as enthused by it as I wanted to be, but I feel like that's sort of my fault. I don't think I'm burned out on Sentai, but after the triple threat of Carranger, Gekiranger, and Megaranger all one after the other, Gingaman couldn't help but feel like a downgrade, despite my massive bias towards Yasuko Kobayashi. There's a lot to love here though. That's the thing I can't stress enough. If Gingaman seems like a show that you'll enjoy, you probably will. I could totally see it being somebody's favorite, even. It's got a very warm, laid-back atmosphere, a fairly likable cast of heroes, solid world-building, some pretty funny episodes, some pretty epic episodes, and basically nothing notably bad anywhere in sight. It's a really frustrating feeling. I like Gingaman. I enjoyed it. But I wish I enjoyed it a lot more than I did. As it stands it's probably the biggest contender for my least favorite Sentai, which, even if it's by default, isn't exactly a glowing review. I kind of knew going in I would be "sacrificing" my opinion of Gingaman watching it when I did (especially considering the next show I plan to get around to is liable to ALSO be really great), but it's still kind of a bummer just how much that seems to be the case. Ultimately, I think for me Gingaman was mostly a victim of poor timing. If this were my first Sentai or one I watched after a decent break from the backlog I'd probably love it as much as anything else. Someday I might have to give it another watch and see if my outlook on it improves. |
I don't think your opinion on Gingaman will be changing, even after a break.
When it comes down to it, it's just your standard Super Sentai. That isn't a bad thing, but it's just doesn't come to life like other shows do. It has it's moments (I love the part where Hyuuga realizes he still has Earth Power), but it never really reaches a high point and stays at that point. You said it yourself that you wanted to like it more than you did. I feel if you go back and watch it again, you'd basically just be forcing yourself to find all the "Overlooked gems" the series has to offer. |
Quote:
Quote:
Again, it's a very frustrating kind of average for me. I don't think my opinion on Gingaman's quality will ever drastically change or anything, but I do think I could have a lot more fun with it if I wasn't futilely waiting for it to "take off", only to be disappointed when it doesn't. |

Anyway, Geki 7 and 8. Dance fighting! Scorpion x Toad shipping! Pork Cube Stew! I love these episodes. Beautifully silly. I love Mele sympathizing with Maga over his unrequited crush. It's just sublime to watch as they trample over the rangers, but then get caught up in their flirting and literally just walk away from the fight. Even Mele gets sick of it all. Can't blame her, considering they literally let the rangers survive 3 times. Anyway, we're introduced to Miki's daughter, Natsume, who is introduced as a bratty kid. When I first saw the show, I figured I wasn't gonna like her. She wants to stand out as the star, so in dance class, she intentionally dances in her own style to stand out. Jan ain't having that, though. Telling her she's ruining the synchronization for no reason. Utilizing the power of the dance, our heroes defeat Sorisa, but she's rescued by Maga, the Toad fist fighter and his unbreakable defense. So now we're introduced to our newest weapon, the Geki Bazooka (That escalated quickly...Tonfa to bo staff to nunchaku, and now a bazooka...). By harnessing Geki energy, it can break Maga's iron defense. But uh-oh! Our heroes aren't efficient enough to charge it in a timely manner, so they need Jan to stall while Retsu and Ran do the charging. And in a moment that swiftly made me reconsider my thoughts on Natsume as well as continue to incorporate the "Training in our daily lives" lesson, Jan learns patience through waiting for pork cubes to properly cook with Natsume's help, and Ran and Retsu train dexterity through piano. Yay~ Jan gets beaten the hell up, displaying his unbreakable body, but they overcome and destroy Maga's defense, and GekiTouja destroys Sorisa, with her weak ass secret technique...Methinks she should just stick to kicking really hard... Oh no, it seems Braco is the one with the Madoku, and he's plotting something. I wonder what... Super solid, super fun episodes and I love them. Something that irked me on my first watch was why the 5 Venoms went after the Rangers 1 by 1 after their introduction, thoroughly stomping them when all 5 were present. Hell, even now, Maga and Sorisa together managed to consistently defeat them. I know all 5 were cocky bastards, but it just seemed foolish to go at them one by one afterwards...Oh well. |
Geki 9 and 10.
Braco reveals he had the Madoku all along! Shocking! He tries to convince Mele to join his side, but she turns him down and kills him. Using the Madoku, he revives himself before he explodes then tries to kill Mele. Mele trains with the Gekiranger's Geki Bazooka, specifically to deflect the shot, and Jan notices she doesn't have the same evil aura as the other Rin Ju Den. In the meantime, Braco uses 2 of the 6 total Madoku fangs to revive Kademu (Centipede) and Moriya (Gecko). No reason for why Maga and Sorisa weren't brought back, but whatever. They all attempt to kill Rio, but Mele returns and saves him last minute, awakening him from his meditation and kills Kademu. Moriya runs off and gets killed by the Gekirangers, while Braco tries to woo Mele over to his side once more by pointing out that, with only 3 Madoku left, she can't be revived since Rio would use them on the 3 Kenma. Mele don't care, takes the Madoku, and kills Braco. Episode 10 has the rangers on an errand up a mountain, only to run into a pervy elephant man to train them in a special weapon style. Meanwhile, Rio is on the search for the first Kenma. Edit! Geki 11+12 So, I do just like to point out that most shows would give Red the first power up. Gekiranger decides it's better than that. The first character to get a new power is Ran, who learns how to use the Geki Hammer and with it, gains the ability to call down the Geki Elephant for Geki Elephant Touja. Love it~ I also like that Ran quickly deciphered the "Lesson" Elehang was trying to teach her, but missed the point of it. Was nice. In episode 12, Jan gains a new skill! Using a towel. God, I love this show. :lol In the meantime, Rio is off to find the first Kenma, awakening Sky Master Kata in 11, and then fighting him in 12. In deadly battles there is training. That's...One way to go about it. Kata tries to turn on Rio, using Rio's past to eat his despair and kill him. Rio decides to eat his own despair and try to kill Kata, but decides that, since he managed to push him so far, that he's worth becoming his new teacher. G'Job, guy. This is why Gekiranger works so well. I hesitate to call them A and B plots since both of them can be equally important, while on other occasions one can be irrelevant. So I just go with Hero and Villain plots. Here, the Hero plot is just filler. Eel monster who fights using slime, so find an alternate method to overcome him. But the Villain plot is a major advancement. We gain a new villain and see his strength, we see Rio achieve a new level of power, and Rio accepts him as his new master. This balance makes sure every episode is worth watching~ |
CarRanger vs OhRanger the Movie: Well this was kinda of something else. Overall the CarRangers were great like they always were, the OhRangers were kind of assholes in this movie. I mean they had their whole we're military we save the world elitist vibe going; so coming off as elitist pricks of course Kyosuke is going to side with Monster who is acting nice. I mean sure this lead to the obvious fight and crazy shenanigans that only CarRanger can bring us lol. I find it either very telling that Car Magic is more powerful than the Cho-Riki power if the CarRangers were fighting the more trained OhRangers to a stand still. SignalMan probably stood out the most in the movie from the beginning being awesome like normal and at the end when he joined the Giant Robo battle. The OhRangers were kind of just there and didn't do much but I mean even some of the newer Sentai Team-Up Movies aren't that great at showcasing the past team either. OhRed stood out the most for the OhRangers. The CarRangers being trained by the Chief was hilarious and to see all of them succeed one by one was great. The CarRangers each had great moments in this movie and it was well done for them. The very end with them all celebrating was a lot of fun. I wish this movie would have had more spots and more of each of the Rangers interacting with their counterparts. Though it was fun and gave me more CarRanger to watch.

Watched Gingaman VS Megaranger. It was solid but unremarkable. I only really have a couple things to say about it:
- Is there a space pirate in this universe who ISN'T obsessed with having Godzilla attack the planet? You know, pirates here on Earth have ships that are actually ships. Man, even in the VS movie it's the same plan as always. - The best thing about this movie was how nostalgic it made me for Megaranger. The second Kenta showed up and the theme song started playing I was instantly transported to a couple weeks ago when I was having the time of my life watching it. I'm tempted to just stop talking about the topic at hand and start raving about how great Megaranger is for the rest of the post. :lol - The Megaranger side of things is definitely downplayed here though. It keeps things focused, which is nice given the relatively short length, but the lack of Yuusaku is tragic, and the absence of Kubota unforgivable. - Speaking of unforgivable, early on Giga Phoenix and Giga Rhinos are shown losing to a monster and appear to blow up like a MotW would, and they never get around to showing them again, so... what other conclusion am I supposed to draw here? They totally killed off my two favorite characters in the entire show (only sort of joking here). Screw this movie! This is straight up non-canon as far as I'm concerned! |
Well, here's the tragedy of the situation.
Either they died in this movie, or they died in Gokaiger's first episode. Because Gokaiger established nearly all the mecha were destroyed, and they made it clear in the Gaoranger tribute that even sentient, living mecha weren't safe :lol |

So I started rewatching ToQger with my boyfriend and, man, I forgot how much I loved this Sentai.

Anyway, Geki 11 and 12. Kata has his two body guards show up, who can fly and thus run a train over our heroes. They travel to find another master, Bat Li, who can train them in the way of the dance. And it just dawns on me that this show has 2 episodes dedicated to dancing. Bat accepts Retsu as his student, and teaches him to enter into a trance while fighting. Not over thinking things and just go with the flow. Using his new style and his new tool, the Geki Fan, he manages to defeat Kata's body guards, and using their new Geki Bat, Geki Bat Touja manages to defeat one of the two giant birds. The other swearing revenge. In the meantime, Rio is trained by Kata to give into his hatred. His hatred would fuel his Ringi even further. Going into a berserk rage, he beats up all his Rinshi and starts hamming up as he unleashes his hatred. |
Oh noes Gokaiger just HAD to introduce an annoying self-insert protagonist... I hope he grows on me...
