So after finishing Death Note we decided to watch something different. Decided to finish watching Little Witch Academia, and man, I love this show so much.

I'm currently working my way through the original MSG movie trilogy.
|
So I finished up Little Witch Academia and despite having some issues with The ending, over all I simply adored it.
Anyone have any good magical girl anime recommendations? Preferably ones on Netflix. |

As for my anime indulgence continuing with Knight's & Magic. |

Why does that sound familiar to me? OH YEAH! THAT'S RIGHT! My least favorite Magical Girl series ever! The one who's title contains three Ms and a P! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O1IzPyzLc-0 HAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!!!! |

The other Cutey Honey series are practically soft core porn. |
I'm not big on Magical Girl anime expect for Devil Hunter Yohko, Cutie Honey and Revolutionary Girl Utena. I never got into Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Madoka Magica.
I also recently finished KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! and I personally really enjoy it. I found the show to be really funny and it has a good cast of characters. The animation was also nicely done and the voice acting was solid. I also found the music in the anime to be pretty good too. My biggest issue with KonoSuba would probably be there is a lot of scenes that were simply too cliche and not a funny twist on the cliche. I also didn't how the show does drag on it's very obvious setups and jokes. Otherwise, I did had fun watching the show from start to finish. Overall, KonSuba is a good show and it's worth checking out. Not my favorite comedy series, but I do like it. Rating: 7/10 |

Other than that I really can't complain about much at all. Well that and a few characters I liked getting pushed out of The spotlight. |
Finished Project ARMS and wow did they like to reuse clips in the beginning. The entire last episode is one big clip show which is weird because it ends the story before the manga does, with some stuff missing. It wasn't a bad watch the the ending is crap. The show does have very colorful language that makes me question if the dubber did this or was it like that in the manga. When a kid hacking a shut door open, he says "Watch as I pop this bitch's cherry." I think Black Lagoon sweared less than this.

Also, consider watching Cardcaptor Sakura if you ever get the opportunity. It is very cute. |

I saw Nausica of the Valley of the Wind last night and I think it holds up very well. The animation still looks great even over 30 years later. The story and characters are wonderful in my opinion.
I do consider it to be one of my favorite movies from Hayao Miyazaki. It was nice seeing the movie on the big screen and watching it again for the first time since I was 16 in High School. This is how I rank Hayao Miyazaki movies from best to worst in my opinion. Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro - Fantastic Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - Fantastic The Wind Rises - Fantastic Princess Mononoke - Fantastic Castle in the Sky - Great Porco Rosso - Great My Neighbor Totoro - Very Good Kiki's Delivery Service - Very Good Spirited Away - Very Good (But overrated) Howl's Moving Castle - Good Ponyo - Kinda sucks (His worst movie in my opinion) |

He didn't direct that one (Hiromasa Yonebayashi did). Not all Studio Ghibli movies are directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I also consider Isao Takahata to be the best director at Studio Ghibli in my opinion. I like his direction in film better compare to Miyazaki's direction in film.

I have been seeing Cyborg 009: Call Of Justice and it is fun. I like the re-designs of the suits especially they feel like they melded the X-Men First Class suit aesthetics with the original suits. Also I am addicted to the opening theme by MONKEY MAJIK.

This should probably go in the YouTube thread, but I figured why not here. Lol!

Stuff to watch: Osomatsu-san season 2, Gintama Porori arc
Osomatsu was just shut your brain off and laugh at the absurdity and hilarity fun during season 1 so cant go wrong. Plus the cast consists of Jealousit from Gokaiger, Beet Buster from Go-Busters, Commander Dumplings from Kyuranger, Baron Nero from ToQger, Teddy from Den-O, and Other Ankh greed from OOO. Gintama seems to have finally finished its serious arc and this is going back to its more comedic roots so just what I needed. |
Demon City Shinjuku - Last year, I re-watch Wicked City in honor of Halloween. This year, I decided to re-watch another classic from Kawajir in honor of Halloween. I still have found memories of me watching this anime back in 1997 on Sci-Fi when I was 6 years old. Demon City Shinjuku is not the best anime from Kawajir, but it's still pretty good in my opinion.
The animation still pretty good-looking for a title that came out almost 30 years ago. The large amount of detail and the coloring in the anime is amazing. Everything has a dark, gothic and spooky feel to it. The atmosphere in this movie really captures the tone of the anime and it works very well. Not to mention the choreography of the fight scenes are very well done too. I also love the monster designs in this movie. It's a shame that we rarely get cool looking monsters in anime these days in my opinion. I also enjoy the story in the anime because I really love the idea of a portal to hell in the city of Shinjuku. It really makes feel like that death is around the corner and any creepy demon can pop up at anytime. The story adds more to the creepy atmosphere in the anime. I do admit that the biggest issue with this movie is that characters could have been better. However I still found them to be pretty enjoyable and the main villain is a fun character. Kyōya Izayoi is still a pretty interesting main character with a fun personality to him. Everyone else could have been written better with some more depth, but I still found them to be memorable. Demon City Shinjuku does have some pacing issues, but I feel like that helps to create the dark, creepy and gothic tone to the anime. It didn't bother me compare to most people to be honest. Motokazu Shinoda also did a pretty good job on the musical score too. The Japanese voice acting is solid and I would highly recommended to watch it in Japanese instead. The English dub for this anime is pretty bad and it was done by the infamous Manga Entertainment UK. They are well-known for producing bad English dubs with tons of swearing to make anime to feel more edgy in the 90's. I do have a somewhat nostalgic soft spot for the English dub because I saw it as a kid on TV. However I can still admit that the English dub is still pretty bad. Overall, Demon City Shinjuku is still a pretty fun anime with great animation, great atmosphere and a cool story. It's a demonic experience that makes me wish that we had more dark, creepy and gothic demonic anime these days. Grade: 7/10 |
Osomatsu-san fans show of hands please :)
|
Just watched the three episodes of Houseki no Kuni that are out and I'm absolutely loving this series. I was a bit apprehensive regarding the art style but I think it looks more than fine in practice. I really like everything about it. Really enjoying it.

Watching Osomatsu-san Season 2. Thankfully the hilarity is intact.
Still have not checked out Gintama's new comedic season which I should soon. Also slowly continuing Cyborg 009 Call Of Justice. |
I also re-watch all three Devilman OVAs recently for the month of Halloween.
Devilman: The Birth and Demon Bird Sirène - They are both very faithful to the first two volumes of the manga expect for a few changes. The animation in them are very nice for titles that came out in the late 80's. I think they are both well-directed and they are a good way to introduced people to Devilman if they never read the manga before (Before CryBaby comes out if it follows the compete story). I think the first two OVAs in my opinion are very good. If you like horror anime or anime with blood & gore similar to Berserk, The Guyver or Hellsing. You will probably like it and you should check out the manga too. If you don't like those type of stuff than you are probably not going to enjoy them. Apocalypse of Devilman - This OVA is not link with the previous two and is alternate take on the last volume of the manga. This is my personal favorite of the Devilman anime because I love the character designs, the action and the atmosphere. The animation is really good for a title that came out in the year 2000. I like this take on the Devilman story and it adds a cool spin on a man fighting his inner demons. I also think Amon himself is a fun character and I love his design. This OVA is a lot of fun, but I would only recommended it for fans of the manga. This OVA has spoilers from the manga and I would recommend to read the manga first before watching this OVA. |
Perfect Blue (1998) - Since we are close to Halloween, I re-watch Perfect Blue for the first time since 2008. I had not seen Perfect Blue since I was 17 in High School. I remember when the movie came out on VHS in 1999, but I never saw it as a kid at the time. So nearly a decade later, I still love the movie and I think it's a masterpiece. Probably one of the very few Giallo anime titles out there in my opinion.
The animation holds up really well with the large amount of detail and use of colors in the film. For a title came out in 1998, it still looks really good today. The animation really captures the tone of the movie. The best thing that I love about the animation is that the movement in the characters. The characters movements seem so life-like, it seems like reality. I really miss when we used to have animation like this in anime. The story is what I love about the movie the most. You really have a great cast of characters and every moment keeps you by surprise. Without spoiling anything, the movie will have you on the edge of your seat by from start to finish. I do think the dub is pretty good and the Japanese voice acting is solid. I think the movie can go either way with sub or dub, but I do think the sub is a bit better in my opinion. Kevin Seymour did a good job on the director on the voice acting. I think the biggest thing that will turn off newer viewers of this movie is that the movie is dated on how technology is used in the movie since the main character has no idea on how to use the Internet. The movie came out when the Internet was becoming a more mainstream thing compare to what it was in 1990 or 1992. Other than, I feel like there is nothing else wrong with this movie. Overall, Perfect Blue is still amazing and is still my #1 favorite anime movie of all time. Everything about this movie is fantastic (I didn't want to create a pun on using the word "Perfect"). If you love horror or psychological movies, give it a watch. I would also recommend this movie to fans of Hitchcock, Argento, Fulci and Lynch. It does bother me that this movie has no Blu-Ray release in the United States. It's a major classic and I feel like someone like Discotek Media or Sentai Filmworks would have pick it up by now. Heck, I feel like the movie is worth being pick up by Criterion. Sadly the old DVD release from Manga Entertainment is pretty old and it looks bad on newer TV's. I guess I would recommend importing the UK Blu-Ray release at the moment. |
Myself going to rewatch Your Name since it has been released on DVD / Blu-Ray so would be good to see one of my favourite anime films of all time and one of the best films in 2016 in my opinion.

Gintama ftw. Awwwwwww yeah.

I finally started watching The Tatami Galaxy. Pretty amazing so far. Yuasa has failed to let me down because his work has been nearly perfect. I love Mind Game, Kaiba and Kemonozume. I have been a big fan of his work since I was a teenager in High School in the mid 2000's.
The anime that I have watched this year so far. I didn't watch much compare due to time and money. Perfect Blue (re watch) - Masterpiece Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor - Excellent Nausica of the Valley of the Wind (re watch) - Excellent Your Name - Excellent Bubblegum Crisis (re watch) - Very good Devilman OVAs (re watch) - Very good Record of Lodoss War OVA - Very good Silent Mobius Movie 1 (re watch) - Very good Silent Mobius 2 (re watch) - Very good Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie (re watch) - Very good 8 Man After (re watch) - Good A.D Police OVA (re watch) - Good Babel II OVA - Good Demon City Shinjuku (re watch) - Good Guy: Double Target - Good (It's pure trashy fun) KonoSuba - Good Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight - Good Spriggan - Good Angel Densetsu - Decent (I would stick with the manga for now) Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01 - Decent Bubblegum Crash - Meh I drop Tokyo Ghoul after 7 episodes and I thought the show sucked to be honest. |

It's also the best film I've seen this year. So so good. |
Yeah I plan on watching Night is Short, Walk on Girl soon. I also need to check out Ping Pong: The Animation which I hear great things about. Not to mention it's based on a manga from Taiyo Matsumoto (I love his work for Tekkonkinkreet).

I finish The Tatami Galaxy the other night and it was probably one of the best anime that I have ever seen. It's so amazing that I can't explain how good it is. This anime blew my mind and left an impact on me after it was over. After it was over, I wanted to watch it again.
I love the characters and the art style. We don't get many avant-garde anime these days, so seeing something experimental in this day of age is always nice. I have seen Masaaki Yuasa's other anime before we did The Tatami Galaxy and I feel like this is his best animated TV series yet next to Kemonozume (I do need to rewatch that anime as well since I have not seen since I was a teenager in High School back in 2007 when I was 16). The Tatami Galaxy masterpiece of storytelling, but not in the traditional sense. I love how each episode technically covers the same space of time with different situations from different sides of the main character. Each episode had me asking for more and more because I love how the story was told in the anime. Not to mention the themes of the main character going through college life is something that I also love about this anime. As a 26-year-old college student, I can feel through the stress that the main character has went through. He feels like his good amount of his life has been wasted, is trying to fit in with different social clubs and trying to find the perfect love one in life. It's almost like they try to put my life in someone's shoes because I have went through similar situation a s the main character in this anime. Overall, The Tatami Galaxy is amazing and I don't want to spoil anything else about this anime. This anime you have to see it to believe it. I feel like everyone should check out The Tatami Galaxy because it shows that you can create an intelligent anime without being obnoxious. It's too bad that we never got a home video release of The Tatami Galaxy in the US. I give The Tatami Galaxy a rare 10/10 rating. I don't think an anime has made an instantaneous impact on me since I saw Perfect Blue when I was a teenager in High School. Masaaki Yuasa is one of the very few people in the anime industry next to Makoto Shinkai that is making high art while the other popular anime directors are either retire or dead (Satoshi Kon and Osamu Dezaki) in my opinion. |
Saw the 3d cgi Saint Seiya film again and though the cgi may not be Final Fantasy good it is enjoyable. Some of the reimagining could throw some people off but personally I had fun. The scenes when they equip their cloths has gone very tokusatsu though. :lolol
