So tonight I got five minutes into a six-minute long conversation with the transgirl that was working the Five Below checkout line when I realized she was flirting with me, and thus I blew it, and now I've just gotta live with that.

If you're a die-hard fan of the man, myth, legend behind Metal Gear and Death Stranding, then you probably want to check out the Japanese dub of Zootopia 2. :lolol

I have decided to check out Sailor Moon. Holy cow, the opening slaps. The second opening (by which I mean the second opening used where it's still the first theme song but with new visuals) completely blew me away though because of how bumped up the animation is. Like, good grief, I was not expecting it to be that fluid. Tuxedo Mask riding a horse had no right to aura farm that hard.
Fine, I'll watch Sailor Moon. EDIT: Okay, so I watched the first episode. Usagi is such a brat lol. Can't really blame her, I'd be wetting my pants if a talking cat shows up and tells me to go fight the forces of darkness. It's so different to my image of Sailor Moon as this dignified magical girl of justice, though I do like how she actually acts like a 14-year-old. Also, dang, Tuxedo Mask is kind of a jerk in his civillian persona lol. How one earth did these two get together? I'm really excited to see where this goes. |

In all seriousness yeah it was... interesting starting Sailor Moon in '98 after having grown up on Power Rangers throughout the Zordon era because, even cultural differences and DiC's edits aside, she felt so much more like a "real" person than, say, Kimberly or Trini. Quote:
And also one of the directors personally hated Tux. It'll be more apparent later on. Quote:

No disrespect, just wasn't prepared for that. :lolol Seriously, I'm still laughing like one of Joker's victims from Tim Burton's Batman flick. :lolol |

Also, does Tuxedo Fraud actually do anything? He just shows up out of nowhere, throws a rose, says a few lines, then leaves. |

Longer answer: Yes, but not in that series. Slightly longer-er answer: But also mostly "no" overall- he's the Damsel in Distress Love Interest, Sailor Moon is the hero. Remember what I said about the show collapsing under its own weight later down the line? Yeah it's a not insignificant contributor. |

I believe I have contracted what I will call 'Sailor Moonrot'.
Before I would pose like tokusatsu heroes in my bedroom during my free time. Now I do Senshi poses. I am not complaining. |

I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY'RE ANIMATING IRON WOK JAN :lolol The best way to describe this? Think of it as Iron Chef with a tablespoonful of Kengan Ashura. :lolol |
I got to pick my desk on campus today and fill out my paperwork to get the keys to the grad student lounge, office, and classrooms I'll be doing lectures in in the near future. I'm getting closer to becoming an actual college professor.

It's been about six months since I moved across the country. Living with others have brought a lot of new challenges. For a time, I figured I sort of lost myself. There's so much going on in life that it's pulled me away from what I love, even tokusatsu. Everything else felt like a waste of time if I wasn't striving towards speedrunning perfection.
However, this year I already feel a lot better about things. I'm becoming a far better cook, my work is finally stabilizing to a point where I'm not hopping on interviews constantly, and I'm feeling more in tune with who I thought I lost. Recently, I got most of the manga I own shipped over to my new place. It fits well on a nightstand I purchased that makes this new home feel like the home I once had. While I only own two volumes, 20th Century Boys is a story that has stuck with me for a long time. I write in my spare time as a hobby, and I think outside of Katsuhiro Otomo, Naoki Urasawa is my biggest inspiration. It's been about... two years since I reread the first volume? I have no idea how the story ends yet, but the first few pages reinvigorated all the love of which I previously had for the story. Truly, it is such a marvel how he is able to reel me in from chapter one. When it comes to mysteries, I really look no further than Urasawa. This year, I'd like to watch more movies and read more. I'd like to be more relaxed and give more time to me as a person. Maybe I'll ship all of my ShF figures here, too. I was hesitant initially to do so because my living situation since university has been temporary, but if this year signifies one thing it is: being you, the best you one can be. |
