I just saw A Silent Voice on Netflix recently as well and oof, was that an emotional rollercoaster. What I though the film did really well was its portrayal of bullies. They range from remorseful (Shoya), to unrepentant (Naoka), to being in permanent denial (Kawai). I've known sociopaths like Kawai in real-life, and this film pulled off a very realistic depiction of bullying.

But yeah, wonderful movie overall--believable characters, beautiful production value etc. I even went on to binge the entire manga and really enjoyed that too.

I just saw My Hero Academia: Two Heroes on tv. 10/10.

I watched all of Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time last weekend, plus the epilogue movie.

On one hand: I enjoyed it. A rather unique set of characters, beautiful animation, great designs.

On the other hand: ... What the actual fuck.

As someone that didn't really like the first season of Divers very much, I can say that this new season is off to a good start. it's a huge marked improvement over the first season in every way.

Thankfully though there is still more room for improvement determining on where it goes. At least we wont have to suffer when watching this Gundam commercial.

Even as a Gundam commercial it's a lot more effective.

I'm for sure getting the Earththree and the Justice Knight.

And kinda sold on the Valkylander.

Just got done watching Seis Manos, and while I didn't like how it ended, I felt it was overall really good. As a Latino, I am pleased.

I saw Promare tonight and I enjoy it. Not a perfect movie, but still a very fun movie to watch. It is worth checking out if you are a fan of Trigger Studios work.

I think I'll watch some King of the Hill. One of my favorite animes.

What's fucked is I made this post exactly one year ago and I still haven't finished the Patlabor OVAs or BNHA's third season (even with the fourth also having come out since...). I've been stalled out about halfway in because I got way sidetracked with a bunch of other stuff (mainly manga). So my anime watching this year hasn't been very up to date. Even aside from those two series I haven't been able to get around to, I've been constantly behind seasonal stuff I've wanted to watch (all the fall stuff is ending and I'm only on like episode 2 of anything). Of stuff I actually managed to and complete this year, JoJo and Mob were probably the highlights? Watched a bunch of stuff I enjoyed (or rather, starved for time I was a lot more willing to drop most anything that didn't catch my attention early on) but I think I enjoyed those the most. Feels like forever since they aired though, 2019 felt long for some reason

I'll probably try to push up BNHA and Patlabor so I can finish them asap though, cause that's ridiculous.

Started watching the 2019 version of Dororo. It's amazing to me how every version of this story that has been made over the past 60 years has not only been enjoyable, but totally unique in their takes on the overall same plot.

I never watched Paranoia Agent before Toonami put it on the lineup and I honestly don't completely get it, which seems to be a common remark that I'm seeing from people on Facebook! I don't get what they were truly going for. It's not like I don't understand any of the character's problems, but the idea of Lil' Slugger appearing to "help" the "cornered person", which seems to have some kind of an effect on people doesn't fully resonate completely. Then there's that Maromi dog who seems to be everywhere to the point that the Chief's wife believes that both the fictional dog and Lil' Slugger are one and the same cause they both delude people!

Can someone give me a hint as to what they were going for?

Been watching High Score Girl, which is basically 90s video game nostalgiafest with an idealized Gamer Girl heroine as the main character's love interest/rival, but it's a genuinely lovely show that brought back so much bittersweet memories for me.

Been a while since I watched this, but as I recall, those two are metaphysical symbols that represent certain aspects of society and the human characters as a collective in this show. In any case, the early-show may seems very obtuse and confusing, but in the end I believe they laid it out relatively clearly.

This episodic commentary may make a good companion piece while watching the show; I discovered the show after reading this, incidentally.

So... a random Studio Trigger anime popped up on my Netflix a few weeks ago? I never heard of BNA before but man it was super fun.

The gorgeous animation is worth the ticket of admission alone but I also really liked the characters. Mari the Mink is my favorite :lol

Hey I'm not the only one who just discovered it. My only real complaint was how short and fast-paced it was. Worked for a couple episodes, but felt like a few things were rushed.

Either way I'm gonna rewatch it in a few weeks since it's short but sweet.

Yeah it started to get real fast the last two episodes. I wish it was longer too, but you are right, it’s easily rewatchable because it’s so short.

And I wasn't bored with it so - that's nice too.

Demon Slayer: Though parts of this show are almost painfully generic shonen, the rest of it is pretty awesome. I hope it has somewhat of a MOTW-style format with Tanjiro going on various missions in various locations to fight various demons, but with a serialized overarching plot.

Jujutsu Kaisen: I've only seen the first episode, but I liked it so far. Similar to Demon Slayer, the shonen core of the series was super generic, but I liked the rest of the setup. Looking forward to seeing more.

Dragon Quest - Dai no Daibouken: Oddly enough, after criticizing the generic elements of the two above-mentioned shows, the most generic of the three is the one I'm most excited about. But this one is generic because it was imitated so frequently. I love it because it's everything that defined anime for me growing up, and I feel like a kid watching Pokemon or Rurouni Kenshin for the first time again.

Saw The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited. Soundtrack is fire, story is decent. Has its moments.

There's not much these days on streaming services that appeal to me besides Vinland Saga. I don't have much time to watch a full series like I used too, but I still like to watch anime movies and shorter OVAs from time to time.

The s-CRY-ed blu-ray set is finally coming stateside. Meaning Discotek Media is now my favorite anime distributor. And it gives me an excuse to watch one of my favorite anime ever for like the sixth time. Seriously, if you guys haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

Oh yeah, that show where Birca from Go-Onger and Gridman are sworn enemies pretty much and everyone is a mix bag of X-Men type mutants and stand users from JJBA. :lolol

I haven't seen s-CRY-ed since it was on Adult Swim and I remember it was a cool show. I also remember that both the anime and manga have two different endings.

The anime and manga are extremely different. The main difference being that the manga honestly comes across as more of a satire or parody of what type of show that the anime is. For some that works, but for me it was a hard pass.

Finished Fate/stay night last week, which is funny because I watched Kamen Rider Ryuki prior to that. Might see Unlimited Blade Works and Zero while I'm on the Fate train, want to see Gintama at some point, along with Soul Eater I'll be watching soon. I'll be watching Shin Kamen Rider, the My Hero Academia OVAs, and the Heroes: Rising movie this weekend, planning to watch some shorter anime and ones I've been meaning to get around to before continuing my binge of One Piece.

Very late to the party but I'm watching Death Note for the very first time alongside a friend of mine. We're also watching Restaurant to Another World and Heaven's Design Team, because these three shows could not be anymore different

I was genuinely shocked to see that not only everyone's second favorite toku writer Inoue worked on Death Note, but also how prolific his credits are in anime.

My friend also wanted to do a re-watch of Fate/Zero alongside me, and I immediately accepted when I saw it was worked on by Urobuchi of Gaim fame

Death Note is great. I especially love the first two Japanese live-action movies that it got. And I know might sound crazy, but the Death Note musical is legit good.

Don't know why but I found myself watching a lot of food related isekai shows lately starting with Isekai Shokudou followed by Isekai Izakaya Nobu. I really just wanted to watch something light-hearted but now I'm starting to get interested in learning to cook.

The real goal in cooking I think is can you get on par with Salt Bae. :lolol
