I'm watching "Made in Abyss" right now and - animated content usually cannot upset me anymore. But today I felt so physically uncomfortable watching that I almost had to throw up. Jesus Christ.
The show is great though, I will say that. Really good stuff. |
I'm currently watching

I don't understand how people can balance so many shows at once lol. I guess it helps that the majority of those seem to be currently airing. (edit: that's not a dig at you, I'm impressed.) Anyways, I've been watching Megalobox and Zoids lately. I'm enjoying Megalobox, but I can't help but feel like every boxing drama is essentially the same basic premise - underdog defies the odds. |

Oh, also work. I guess that's a thing too. |

The Office (UK) The IT Crowd Worth It Mr Mayor Zoids Megalobox and I've been trying (and failing) to catch up on Kiramager. You've got me beat by a long shot hahaha |
Yeah, I'm up to date on Black Clover, Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, Jujutsu Kaisen, Promised Neverland Season 2, and of course, Kamen Rider Saber and Kiramager. I just finished Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works, I'll watch Fate/Zero next week, since I'll be watching the My Hero Academia OVAs and Heroes: Rising movie and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan. Not counting the YouTubers I occasionally watch.

So this is what happens when Ultraman Z, Alien Fanton Gourman, Gridman, and Quester Gai starts a skateboarding crew with a snowboarder and a skateboard prodigy with an affinity for cat-themed hoodies.:lolol
And your antagonist is Dio Brando. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7iU2m6RbEU |

But real talk it's fun and I love that they just made a skateboard anime which is rare. |
So Death Note, the big status quo change around ep 16 or so ... yea not a fan. The fun dynamic and set up that was going on is now thrown away? Did this happen in the manga too? Hopefully things pick up after this stretch because I'm not really digging this new direction
What are everyone's thoughts on this change? |

I have mixed feelings on the second half of Death Note. Definitely inferior to the first half, but the ending makes it almost worth it. |
Just started Food Wars. Two episodes in and I'm not convinced I'll enjoy it. I was hoping for something fun with some competition elements and some slice of life elements that's easy to watch. Instead, everything is exaggerated to the point where I have trouble getting invested and it's pushing my suspension of disbelief (If he's so good that he can impress the most elite palate in the world with something basic, yet he can't outcook his father...why isn't their diner more well-known?), I don't like the foodgasms, the comedy isn't really my style, and most of the characters are kind of annoying.
Should I keep going, or just drop it? |

I think the show is really fun? I watched the first 4 seasons and it never went downhill or anything. It got better instead if I had to judge it.
I like the novelty of it all, that it is basically your standard anime where the characters beat each other up and the power levels get insanely unrealistic but instead of fighting physically they have cooking matches. I wouldn’t drop it after only 2 episodes, keep going. |

So if anyone does have interest in the show, don't take my advice, take it from someone who's actually seen the show, or just go for it, since that's how I watched Kamen Rider Wizard and actually did find enjoyment in it. |
I started watching Kuroko no Baske instead and this is MUCH closer to what I was in the mood for. Maybe I'll give Food Wars another go down the line, but for now I don't feel the need to keep watching it.

Finished Fate/Zero last night, really liked it. Funny how I thought it was just going to be Urobuchi being edgy from start to finish, but it wasn't edgy in the bad way, and the themes worked much better than the Godzilla Anime Trilogy. The only complaint I have is the disappointing final battle, but overall really liked it (Rider team is best team). Also, I seem to like Hikaru Midorikawa's (voice of Gridman) roles a lot.
Guess I'll watch Pacific Rim: The Black tonight. |
Just finished Pacific Rim: The Black last night. It was pretty good, better than Uprising and the Godzilla Anime Trilogy.
I'm going to avoid spoilers just in case people have interest in seeing it themselves, so I'll just leave some of my thoughts here: The animation for the Jeagers and Kaiju were some of the best parts of this series, and made even better by the fact that the sense of scale from the first movie is somewhat retained, not as good, but not as off as Uprising, so that was a nice detail, and the designs, I thought, were really good, a nice balance between the two movies, and just good designs overall. The humans, however, is inconsistent, where it's mostly choppy, probably due to the characters moving around a lot more than the Godzilla Trilogy, because they're emulating more of a western style show rather than Anime, but it just doesn't feel right, where there are a handful of scenes where they do move smoothly and naturally. But this may be because most of the budget went into the Jeagers and Kaiju, so I'm not mad about it. The story was alright, with some interesting new ideas thrown in, and if people were wondering, this is indeed connected to the Pacific Rim timeline, again not spoiling. Most of the plot points were kind of what I expected, but with some of the curveballs thrown in, it made for a fun watch. The characters were alright for the most part. The voices weren't bad, but not great either, I'm usually sub person when it comes to Anime, mainly because most dubs I've heard are pretty bad *Looks at Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal* but these voices weren't bad. And might I add, I'm glad they kept a consistent tone throughout the series instead of adding opportunities for dumb jokes at every interval, like Uprising, nor did they try to make this as dark and edgy as possible, so they have my respect. Oh yeah... Ploygon also did that gosh-awful Star Wars Resistance that only took me the trailers and first episode to convince me it was bad... But anyway, Pacific Rim: The Black, was overall, a pretty good show, and definitely makes up, if not a little, for Uprising, and has the potential to bring, not just Kaiju media, but the Pacific Rim franchise back into the spotlight, though I won't get my hopes up. Anyway, I'm currently planning my next show to watch, which will either be Case Files of El-Melloi II, while I'm a bit of a Fate kick, Code Geass, since I've put that one off for a while, and I kind of want to see more Mecha Anime, or Blassreiter, you won't be alone Dreamsword! |
Finished Death Note over the weekend
It was pretty good but the quality of the show dips at the halfway point, IMO. For some reason I had it in my head this was some kind of top tier show with how popular it is (was?) In any case I still enjoyed it for the most part. With only 37 episodes it doesn't overstay it's welcome. Was pretty surprised there's few changes from the manga, since there was some story decisions and turns I wasn't a fan of. But the character's arc and series as whole wraps up in a satisfying way for me Next up: Fate/Zero |
Not currently watching Paranoia Agent right now, but I've seen the Dub once (Thanks, Toonami!) and I found an article on it for those interested.
https://www.slashfilm.com/paranoia-agent/ If Satoshi Kon was critical of escapism, what would he have said about tokusatsu? |
I've been watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam. I remember trying to watch it back in college and getting bored pretty quickly...so then I tried both Gundam: The Origin and the movie trilogy, but not really liking either. I had gotten to the point where I felt like I'd never be able to enjoy the original story, but somebody on reddit convinced me to give the series another shot and I'm enjoying it a lot. Sure, it's old and dated...but when you look at it in the context of a 70s series and set your expectations to 70s standards, it actually holds up pretty well. I'm just getting to the part with Ramba Ral, which I've heard is a really popular arc, so we'll see how this goes.

Sorry if it's a bit old to bump this thread, but I have just now decided to finally watch some anime again that I've been meaning to just to break things up a bit because it's been a while so I'm now trying to finish Digimon Frontier (although it's technically the third time! :lol) It's OK, I think this is the point for me in Digimon I go over from dub to sub, but I admit it does suffer from being a bit boring and Takuya and Izumi/Zoe are the less good characters for me so far, kind of almost a bit similar to Davis and Yolei!
I admit I'm not really knowledgeable about anime, but Digimon is one franchise I've not been too bad at keeping up with, although I did only recently realise that there is now a reboot of Adventure that has begun airing without me knowing! :lol |
started Black Clover. i bought the first manga volume last month and enjoyed it. the anime seems to be taking its time.

Getting to the end of Transformers Choujin Masterforce. Overall, it’s been a pretty good run and a great personal introduction to the Japanese G1 series. Currently debating which of the trilogy I should go for next.

I just started Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam a few days ago and I'm loving it so far. I can easily see why this series is so popular. I do kind of miss the simplicity of the OG series though.

I watched Zeta Gundam episode 7 last night, and oh man. This show has such an interesting and complex lore to it. I also love how it, once again, starts in medias res and fills you in on what changed between MSG and Zeta as the story goes on (and as such, I feel like I'm going to be firmly in camp "watch 0083 after Zeta" once I get to it.)
|
Completely on a whim i ended up rewatching the first 8 episodes of Code Geass yesterday (dub because it's all I could find), and man it holds up better than I thought. I would perhaps argue it's only gotten better with time, even!

I finished season 4 of the Castlevania anime.
It was trash. Felt very rushed and the plot and characterization relies on you pretending that half of season 3 didn't happen. Good to see that Netflix Originals continue to majorly disappoint me. |

I've been watching Gokushufudou lately and I like it a lot. A lot of people complain about the animation, but I think it works with the show. I also decided to give Scissor Seven a shot. I'm not sure how I feel after the first episode, but I liked it enough to try the second episode.

In watching Naruto Shippuden on Toonami, I realize how dense I can be! Given the similarities, I feel like such an idiot for not realizing long before the on-screen revelation that Akatuski Member "Tobi" is Obito! Seriously, all the evidence is there in the names! How did I miss it?

Recently saw both parts of Sailor Moon Eternal on Netflix. I’ve only seen the dubbed version of the first part, but it does feel like a step down from the dub of Crystal.
