Now that I'm actually awake and can respond properly on a computer.

Lightzord: Rather than make a pointless DX-sized Robot + Role Play weapon that was used maybe TWICE in the actual show, I think BoA did a good job of making an alternative for the most part by making it able to transform into the staff and lantern that the Megazord toys themselves can use by taking advantage of the Auxillary Zord system they've had set up since the MMPR 2010 lineup. Unfortunately, the one flaw with the toy is that by being in the Auxillary Zord play pattern, they had to make it compatible with a "Rider", and as riding a robot's shoulders doesn't exactly work as well as an animal, they made the Lightzord turn into one... kinda. They insist it's a spider, I just don't see it and as someone has pointed out before, it looks like a Beetle more than anything. Small Clawzord: There's only one way to defend this choice and even so, I admit it's a weird-ass stretch that only I can probably justify. Take the chest port of the Claw Megazord. Smack on a smaller version of the Lobster as a Chest Plate. Bam. DoubleClaw Megazord. Scorpionzord: Aside from the DoubleClaw Megazord thing from the Small Clawzord (In this case, rather than it being a "Little Brudder" I see it more as a parasite taking over the various mecha.) this toy has one extra play feature to it: The tail. The crazy-as-hell, multi-jointed tail that has more articulation in itself than the majority of the line. Also, it's also kinda genius to remold and redeco a lobster into a scorpion to get the most of the new design. Part of me wishes that BoA would make a full-sized Claw Megazord remold of this style. I really do like when Bandai decides to make US-original mecha. Get as purist as you want to the Sentai adaptations, but I always prefer originality over straight-up adaptation/remaking. It's one of the reasons I enjoyed the MMPR 2010 line. Quote:

y do we have to defend claw and scorpion, they werent even in the show, so wats the problem here. wat'd they mess up, oh right, nothing |
The BoA Aux Zords are a waste of everyone's time and hard earned dollars. The plastic is cheap as the useless McDonald's Reject Figures they come with. They, somehow, decided because they renamed it into the Shark Sword/Zord that the toy needed to come with useless fins. That are only 'useful' if you spend more money. When they could've saved themselves money in the first place by not having the Aux Zords come with such useless figures in the first place.
LightZord/Scorpion/Mini-Claw are in a dead heat for the worst toys in the history of BoA. And Power Rangers all together. Stylized peices of useless cheap plastic, that look nothing like they do in the show. In one case it has never been, nor will be, in the show at all. And I hate toys that weren't used on screen. One of the bigger problems I have with the TF Lines of late. And the fact they had the bare-faced cheek to make LightZord turn into some useless... beetle.. spider... thing? That's almost as unforigivable as taking away his ability to speak in PRS. Scorpion I'm not just not going to mention. Wasn't on the show, doesn't exist. Clawzord though? It doesn't even transform! You just pop it on the arm! Lazy, uninspired, unimaginitive designing put through to the market solely for the purpose to steal money. Getting screwed out of good toys is making me think, maybe Bandai doesn't really give a flying you-know-what. And yes, I heard the argument. "Well Sentai, parents don't want to shell out prices for DX toys!" Know what else Parents don't want to do? Buy their kids cheap toys that break to damned easy and are extremely overpriced for what they are. Quality will justify price. And it's also a stupid arguement considering how much they doll out for Tickle Me Elmos and whatever the hell else. Will BoA change? Nope. I know that, they'll do whatever. Make money. The world keeps turning. Am I going to stop holding up the banner for better quality in their american offerings? Hell no. |
^They're not exactly a waste of time and hard earned dollars if the people who buy them do actually enjoy them...

I actually think more older collectors would buy the ranger figures(not zords) if they were at least given bicep and thigh swivels. Ankle joints wouldn't hurt either. Admittedly when I pose my 4" rangers sometimes I find myself inadvertently trying to twist the arms at the bicep. Just to used to that articulation at this scale.

I'm still in the camp of being disappointed that BoA changed the figure scale with MMPR 2010, but I'm really impressed that for Samurai, they have actually released every variation of every ranger except for the Shoguns (which I'm not too bothered about). I ended up getting the Shinkenger mecha, but am overall impressed with what BoA did with the zords, I just couldn't get over a lack of emblem modes, and the Gigazord is showing why it was important, at least for the ape.
Excited to collect the US toys for Megaforce, cause I doubt I'd be willing to spend import prices for the kinda meh Goseiger mecha. I hope Bandai keeps this focus on completionism and we get all of the headers, especially the repaints of the Dragon (what were their name?). |
