Amane's crush on Hajime never bothered me much, I always saw it as the equivalent of a girl saying she'll marry her father/brother (something which is oddly common on japanese media...)

And given that Hajime was constantly compared to her father that was probably the intention.

That's just squicky...

The japanese are oddly fond of it for whatever reason...

I don't see it as squicky. I've seen little girls have crushes on adult men in real life. It's only really creepy when it's the other way around...

But their family, Matrix. Family.

Not literally. They just consider him family after he started living in their spare room.

Children don't usually know what incest is though. And if they do, there are usually more pressing things to deal with.
