That isn't true at all. Garo may have plenty of its mythos written in books and whatever, but all of the series are both enjoyable and understandable without them. I haven't read a single bit of expanded Garo fiction and love and understand all three series that have aired so far.

The books are SUPPLEMENTARY, not integral.
