 The problem is the negative connotations the word has. No matter how swashbuckling the adventures are, people will bitch about pirates being the heroes regardless. |

 Because most of the time in kid's programming, the pirate is used as a villain or comic relief ploy, never really as the main hero. True there are some shows that break this mold, but 95% it's a pirate being villainous.
