I'm with you. Starting around episode 35, the main Ryuki characters rehash the same conflicts, ad nauseum, until the final arc.

That's around when Alternative, Tiger, and Imperer show up. While all of them are cool characters-- and the writers try their best to wring some good stuff from them-- they're removed from the interpersonal drama that defines the core group of characters (Ryuki, Knight, Zolda, Ouja, and Yui), and feel a bit superfluous.
