I wasn't a fan of the comically dark and bad tone and then I saw the explanation. I even think some of the actors involved signed on tongue fully planted in cheek.

I'm just sad about the people who do like the approach of the short and think that's the direction things should go.

Can't say I overly enjoyed it, but that was pretty interesting regardless. It went REALLY gritty, over the top for sure, but from what I gathered that's what the guy was aiming for. It's definitely a cool concept and you know what, I'd watch another episode of it.

Should this be a new direction for a TV show or movie? No, no, no.

I enjoyed it.

As a stand-alone piece of work - it's fine. Does it capture the "magic" of Power Rangers? Of course not and it wasn't trying to. You can tell simply by watching it that it's making fun of itself.

This truly is the example of what Hollywood wants to do to every property it touches. I recognize that and I laughed because it's true.

Fun short film. Not the end of the world as Twitter would make you believe. And for those worried that this will make Lionsgate and Saban change their direction of the official movie?

Like they're going to start listening to older fans NOW :p

"Strays from the toku norm" is I think the best way to describe it. It fell into Bayformers territory. Great action and CG, poorly designed dialogue, and way too adult for any fan or child to even watch. I just kept cringing.

Seriously, things I never want the Power Rangers franchise to be: a cheap imitation of Watchmen.

However, that said, I have to REALLY freaking wonder how they got Sackhoff and the rest to actually do this. I'd love to be some dude with a bottle of Everclear going "Yo Katie, how would you like to do a scene with Beek where you're the Pink Ranger?" SMH.

Someone else called it a deboot. I would second that. I'd kickstart the crap out of the guy doing 'The Ranger' videos just so I wouldn't have to watch someone elses fanfic of this brand of nonsense.

So the story is a little deeper than people realize. Takes a few re-watches.

Spoilers.

- Story skipped the entire "Lord Zedd" thing and focused on Rita
- Machine Empire and Earth at war
- Truce signed
- Rocky switches sides and joins Machine Empire
- Rangers begin dying, Machine Empire suspects Tommy is evil again
- Tommy confronts Rocky
- Kim kills Rocky, Tommy reveals Kim died a long time ago, Kim reveals herself to be Rita

That's a GREAT story twist in my opinion.

Wow that was very Very cool. I hope the movie can be somthing like this. I don't want the next movie to be a reboot.

There is no way on Gosei's green Earth the reboot will be anything close to the area where this fanfilm resides near. The reboot is going to be just that. A reboot.

This just isn't for me. I'm not going to sit here and rail against it. You enjoy it then more power to you. This just isn't my thing. One thing is I paused it at the Megazord scene at the start and that is a cool design for the combined mecha. I'd love to see a clean shot.

Yup. It's an interesting story/twist. It's something worth watching.

Makes total sense. That was my reaction upon watching it. I don't need Power Rangers to be that. I don't particularly expect it from Super Sentai either, even if the difference in sensibilities makes some Sentai appear a bit dark at times. If I want a dark adult tokusatsu I have Garo for that, and it does that really well.

I've thought for a while that the Lionsgate Power Rangers movie, when it emerges, should be a blend of Avengers and Pacific Rim. I think that would be a good balance.

I saw "Divatox" and "Scorpina" in the end credits and had to watch the thing again, thinking I'd blinked and missed them - turns out they were just the two girls with "Zack". That I recognised the actresses' names in the credits says far too much about me.

A nice touch was getting Carla Perez in as Rita at the end, though.

One more thing, with these fan films & fanfics, what it with people wanting to make a deal out of killing off Trini? I know in this film the point is all the other Power Rangers are dead, but the funeral bit didn't quite sit right with me.

Kinda interesting seeing how opinions are divided, though.
