I think the “mech vs monster” fights are handled in such a manner to entice children to purchase the toys. I doubt every child that is watching, say, Zyuohger, started watching from day one. Even then, I’m sure there are other ways to advertise the toys without a big fight at the end.

Yeah this. They had an episode of Zyuohger where the Mecha was used in the very first 5 minutes to fight against attacking spaceships. In return, the episode did not feature the usual "Monster grows big, summon the Mecha!"-shtick at the end. That’s something I’d like to see more of. I don’t think they should scrap the Mecha entirely; I just want them to use it more creatively. It’s the same old formula that annoys me.

I still think Sentai’s biggest fault is that it can’t help but repeat the same tropes every episode. Of course it’s a kid show, but that doesn’t justify that they use the same method to give the Mecha screentime every single episode. That’s just boring.

There's a lot of ways to keep the mecha fresh (Maybe not use it one episode, use the individual zords at all (Since we've long since left the era of the zords' first appearance being a solo battle, as they now combine in the same episode as their debut (Which also tends to be the first episode)), or perhaps just place the battle in a non conventional point in the episode).

I don't have a list of 8 problems, so I'll just post a few problems I've had.

My issue with Sentai is how damn formulaic it is. Like the basic set up of an episode is so predictable, and yes while it is a kids show, that doesn't mean that the formula has to exist for 40 years. The only interesting times sentai has are the characters, and then they are not always that good.

For Kamen Rider I'm more okay with it. Maybe of how in Drive and Ghost they just shoehorn, and shove the new toy down your throat for the first half of the show.

Kamen Rider breaks up the formula and that still sells a lot. Sure, it's different because Rider doesn't have mechs, but still. Sometimes skipping the giant mech fight in an episode would lead to a much better story. I've brought it up before and I'm going to bring it up once again: Zyuranger doesn't have a fully combined mech until 6 episodes in, and out of every Sentai I've seen I feel like that one has the best set-up.

And before you say anything, I know it's a kid's show and kids love the MOTW format. But like Matrixbeast said, everything can be explained away by that. I still feel like there are ways they could shake up the formula while still selling toys.

My biggest 1st through 8th problem is that these shows are not aired in the US. I have to jump through large internet hoops to get to watch them, and they're infinitely more enjoyable than most of the drek shown on US TV.

See that's what I was saying, but apparently that somehow destroys the spirit of Sentai and I don't know what I'm talking about anyways. At least that's what I was told when I mentioned this last time.

Don't even waste your time trying to tell this guy that his view of the world is not shared by everyone else on this planet. He does this all the time, he posts a wall of text full of capslock and smiley’s, people point out why he's wrong, he doesn’t answer or even tries to argue why he’s right, next day he writes a similar text in another topic, and history repeats itself.

It seems like he somehow mistakes this forum for some kind of online diary where he can vent and ask imaginary people what they think without caring what people actually think, because I’ve never seen him engaging in a real discussion before.

Like, I could spend an hour completely dismantling his post (or write down what's actually wrong with Sentai/Rider in my opinion) but why should I even care? He won’t learn anything from this and write the same type of comment somewhere else tomorrow.

So he's this forum's biggest troll?
