Then what about The Adventures of T-Rex? It was also a TMNT clone but the stage performing team of heroes donned color-coded power suits (complete with transformation sequence) to fight crime in a 1920-esque city populated by anthropomorphic dinosaurs.

Except that's the point. Tokusatsu is a medium and not a genre, same as anime. It can cover any genre as long as it is live action with special effects.

A better question would be "What's an animated henshin hero show?" or "What's an animated daikaiju show?" or the like. Henshin hero, daikaiju, etc. are genres, not mediums.

I would accept that if not for that fact that "Toku" is treated as a genre. Anime is sometimes considered a genre, but not often and only by the unknowing. Anime is split into sci-fi, action, etc, but Toku is considered it's own genre, even by "Toku" fans.

Eh, I see your point, but because some folks consider it a genre does not make it so. Maybe I'm just the stickler, but tokusatsu will remain a medium to me, just like comic books, Western animation, anime, etc.

And honestly, outside of anime otaku, pretty much all "norms" consider anime to be a genre and not a medium. My roommate in my last year in college was an otaku, and that used to drive him and his fellow anime fans insane. That doesn't make it accurate, just wide spread.

Except you guys all ignored the first post where I said I'm ignoring that rule about Toku, and making an appreciation thread for animated shows that fit the genre.

But their point is it isn't a genre, its a medium. I understand where you're going with this thread, but I can see why people are getting confused and debating what does and doesn't constitute as toku.

The issue comes in that you didn't give a description of what you're expecting. You gave examples.
Due to Toku's extremely vague definition, anything from The Big Bang Theory to Kamen Rider to Scrubs is Tokusatsu.
By taking Animation into account, this means that things such as "Recess" would also fall into it.
The examples of Tekkaman or Voltron isn't defining what you were looking for, just what you were expecting people to answer with.
