It makes sense why Red Rangers are the only ones getting upgrades these days. Red Rangers are, in every way that actually matters, the most important member of the team. He's the special one, the unique one, the cool one, the one every kid wants to be and the one who'll sell the most toys to people of all ages. With so many rangers, not just in the show itself but in the franchise as a whole, why bother making a bunch of toys for characters only a couple of people like when you could makes a bunch of toys for a character everyone likes? Every other color, save for sixth and maybe blue, is more or less about as important as the first wave of forms in recent Kamen Rider shows. They're important in the beginning but don't really matter in the end. They're just there for the numbers.

So is there anything stopping TOEI from having another colour as the main hero (especially in Sentai)?

Otherwise I'm basically thinking that Japan consider the Sith as the good guys because they use red lightsabers and rely on their passion and instinct (which is what red rangers tend to do a lot).

Quite a lot Rider and Metal Hero shows have non-red leads but having Red as the main hero seems to be a long-standing tradition that I doubt Toei would drop that quickly (even if there were a few non-red leaders such as NinjaWhite).
