I bet if the movie came out in August, it would have done better. August is usually a dead month since it's the end of the summer. Saban and Lionsgate should have known that March was a bad idea. They had no chance against a live action Disney movie and a reboot of a classic movie icon.

Could've been worse. The original release date was in January. People were relieved when they move it to March because January indicates the movie will be bad.

None of those have the same brand name as PR. Not to mention Detroit was hardly a box office hit. Movies like Mortal Kombat, Guardians of the Galaxy and TMNT 2014 did well in August is due lack of competition.

Saban released a statement saying they are not abandoning the film franchise, yet anyways, but likely will create a new logo for the sequel, when and if one is made. I predict the sequel will be a soft reboot.
