I honestly cannot remember the last time we had a GOOD sentai show; and there hasn't been one airing since I started watching toku. The most recent ones I would call good are go busters and gokaiger.

To be fair, Sentai has always existed to sell toys...but in the past, simple action figures were enough. These days, with so many stimuli competing for kids attentions, they need all of the crazy gimmicks to keep up.

That's not to say that the older stuff wasn't better, because it was. The only new Sentai that I've truly enjoyed since I got into it was Lupin vs Pato, and that's just because I thought the two-team dynamic was cool.

Yet it didn't do so hot in Japan. Which I myself find odd. Because cops vs robbers has been a staple in us young boys play arsenal. For forever.

Just because something is a staple of our culture doesn’t mean it makes for a good Sentai.
