Yeah, OOO had a lot of ideas that were scrapped due to the producer changing her mind. For example, Date was supposed to succumb to his tumour and his return a few episodes later was meant to be a clone made of cell medals (like Nobunaga in Movie Wars Core).

Talking of War Core, that movie's a treasure trove of ideas they had in development. Eiji's jobsearching; Gotou starting off as Birth; "Giru"... the whole tone and the disposition of a lot of characters is very different to the TV show as well. How much of that is applicable to original ideas and how much is applicable to Inoue's writing though is naturally up to speculation.
