If I blame external aspects for my own mistakes and shortcomings, then I must be having a severe victim mentality. My victim mentality means that I'm the ultimate coward who doesn't have the courage to face my own inner demon. Quote:
I was only 3 when Ryuki aired, so I remember almost nothing about that period. From the testimonies of people who actually watched Ryuki in real-time, I can conclude that Ryuki was not disliked by the fandom, let alone hated. Ryuki was an unusual, strange creature that was so alien to many fans, including Heisei fans of Kuuga and Agito. Ryuki was so ahead of its time with its many innovations in toy gimmicks, suit designs and aesthetics, and more importantly, in storytelling (actual Rider vs Rider conflicts, truly evil/despicable Riders, betrayals by many of the characters, theme of manipulation, the deaths of virtually all of the Riders, true death game, etc). The fandom wasn't quite ready for those things, especially in storytelling. Fans were taken out of their comfort zone. Fast forward to 2023, and Ryuki has been viewed as a huge leap of innovations in this franchise. Many of those aspects have gradually become staples in modern/post-Showa Kamen Rider aesthetics/stories. Unlike Geats, no one disliked Ryuki for being the epitome of epic fail in storytelling. |
