There's already a worst Sentai thread, so vent all your Gosei-Hate overthere. This about the Best Sentai. Teams, Mechs, Actors/Actresses. So please get this thread back on topic.
Gengaman may not be everyone's favorite series, but, I did enjoy the mechs when I saw them in Lost Galaxy. Especailly GingaTaurus, GingaRhinos, and GingaPhoenix. (Torozord, Centaurus Megazord, Stratoforce Megazord). Especailly Rhinos. |

Best Sentai huh?
For the 80's Bioman, with Maskman a close second. For the 90's a tie between Dairanger and Kakuranger. 2000's Gekiranger. 10's Gokaiger. I haven't seen the 3 series from the 70's so can't really comment on those. I see we're also picking our favorites from each series, then here's mine: Bioman - Green 2 Maskman - Blue Mask Liveman - Green Sai (-ish) Turboranger - Blue Turbo Fiveman - Five Blue Jetman - Black Condor (Bad-ass Black Condor!) Zyuranger - Dragon Ranger (Bad-ass Dragon Ranger!) Dairanger - Shishi Ranger (Bad-ass Shishiranger!) 3 years of bad-assery right there! Kakuranger - Ninja White and Ninja Blue (and Nekomaru! Love that bus/cat) Ohranger - Oh Green Carranger - Green Racer Megaranger - Mega Yellow and Mega Blue Gingaman - Ginga Green (and Shelinda. I loved how obsessed she got to kill Ginga Green) GoGoV - Go Green Timeranger - Time Green and Time Fire Gaoranger - Gao Silver Dekaranger - Deka Yellow, Deka Green and Deka Pink (Can't help it) Magiranger - Magi Green Boukenger - Bouken Red and Bouken Pink Geki Ranger - I liked them all! (Rio, Mele and Long included) Go-onger - Go-on Green and Go-on Yellow Gokaiger - I liked all 6 (And the legends) Go-busters - Stag Buster Akibaranger - Same with Geki I liked them all There. I've only chosen from the series that I have seen. |
Wow, there's really no good way to go about choosing this! I've debated this endlessly, and I can't yet find a good candidate for best season.
The best I can do, I think, for now is to say that the seasons with the best story is Magiranger, while the most likable team is either Gokaiger or Go-onger. My overall best is probably Gokaiger.
I feel I have to justify Gokaiger as my choice for best, and I'll say that this is because it is the one that does everything well enough, even if it isn't necessarily the best at everything. It may not have the best story, character development, team dynamics, villains or mecha design, but it does all those things well enough while other series have to sacrifice something to excel at another thing. For example, Shinkenger had a spectacular Red Ranger story arc, but lots of uninteresting filler in between. Go-onger had a charming team that was fun to watch, but a weak story arc. Magiranger had strong team dynamics and awesome villains, but no outstanding Rangers. Gokaiger remains the series that feels the most standard, the one that does everything well, even if it isn't outstanding in those departments. In fact, the weakest department of Gokaiger was the villains, and even those were sufficient to fulfill the series' needs, and many had their own shining moments. Plus, they had Basco. That is why Gokaiger remains my favorite and the best example of Super Sentai in general. It also helps that it represents every Super Sentai team before it. It was the series that did almost everything right, the series with which I had no serious complaints. |

Yeah, I'm confused by that comment. I only replied to the first half because it was directly under my post.

Not like Shark made much sense either, but. |
Favorite Red: MagiRed/Kai Ozu. Mostly due to a nostalgia factor, Kai is my favorite Red- The first Sentai series I watched and loved, Kai is my favorite Red. Plus, he has a phoenix motif, can control fire and has a giant ROBOT UNICORN. Yes, he can use a ROBOT UNICORN ATTACK.
Favorite Blue: GokaiBlue/Joe Gibken. As an avid sword lover, I loved the fact that he held 5 swords at once. That just made him badass. Plus his stoic nature is what made me laugh whenever he got into situations when he fell out of it :lol. Favorite Yellow: AkibaYellow/Yumeria Moegi [Real Name: Yuko Yamada] Yes, my favorite yellow isn't even from the main 36. It's mostly due to the cuteness factor, and the fact she makes me laugh. Favorite Green: MagiGreen/Makito Ozu. Just like his little brother, nostalgia factor. That and the fact that he's the cool older brother who spoke english to a foreigner in one episode :lol. Favorite Black: BlackCondor/Gai Yuuki. Badass, duh. Favorite White: MagiMother/Miyuki Ozu. Like her sons, nostalgia factor. That and she has a snow theme with a staff, faked her death and fought alongside her children, her husband and her son-in-law. Favorite Pink: GokaiPink/Ahim De Famille. Where do I begin?! A princess from a planet who joined up with pirates to get revenge on the empire that stole her planet and family's lives from her. When she started out she was weak, but managed to become a greater fighter than someone *cough*Hakase*cough* who was part of the crew longer than she was. Despite the dangerous situations she's been in (held hostage, capture by Basco, etc) she's managed to keep her cool. Wielding two GokaiGuns, she's a sharpshooter who can wield both in her hand and fire. Her focus episode where she finally got revenge was amazing- the dynamic Gokai Changes between her and her team were perfect. That and she's cute as a button, and lovely <3 More lists will come up, those will be to discuss motifs! |

Because, outside Don's little arc, I can't think of any. There was tons of potential and possible build up, but it's almost immediately dropped or solved by just destroying the monster. |

Whether you think it was GOOD development or not is a different matter entirely, but that is development and was most certainly there. |

http://forums.henshinjustice.com/sho...7&postcount=28 Just gives basically why Gokaiger turned out like it did. |
So more tribute episodes. What does that have to do with less character development? If anything, playing off their seniors should've helped them grow more.
|
ok for me this will be a hard one due to i love Jetman sue to the fact that it was family eving show and maturity of smoking and and guy hitting on girls is all there and i love it for that but also i love Go-onger it fact without go-onger i would not be here today and talk bout sentai with you guys so i love the show
my faveite character has to be Marvilous due to the fact he was bad ass to the point that he says he did not care but in acctual facted he did and he started to care for his team more and more my best moment must be in shinkenger when Genta got turned into sushi and then by the next episode he was affraied of shushi the prime thing he makes and use and a changer i thought this was good due to that that he allowed use to see what happens after he break his fear |
Can somebody please translate the above post in English?

Remember, I never said it had the best character development, but I'd say what we got was pretty good. At the core I'd say that what the characters learned is to grow into heroes, hence the "Gokai" prefix. The Gokaigers were relatively selfish at first, seeking only goals that coincide with their own. Heck if Ahim didn't stop at the plight of the civilians under attack in the first episode, the Gokaigers might have not have lent a hand. Even when they did, it seemed largely about pride rather than selflessness. Although not at the level of the Zangyack, there was a sense that Earth and humanity were beneath them. For a whole series about striving for your dreams, it's amazing that towards the end, they gave up their greatest dream, the one that gave them purpose for much of their later lives, for the sake of their predecessors that inspired them so. Their all-out assault on the Zangyack sealed their heroism, made them into proper Super Sentai. Individually, they learned quite a lot of things too. Joe learned to let go of his past, Luka learned there is greater value than money, Don learned true courage, Ahim learned to adopt the strength of a warrior, Gai learned to step out of the shadow of his idols and find footing of his own. What Marvelous learned, of course, coincided with the overall heroic theme of Gokaiger as a whole. This is seen when Basco taunted Marvelous with the truth of Akared's intentions to save the Super Sentai rather than to obtain some glorious treasure. The Marvelous of episode 1 might have felt betrayed, but the Marvelous of the final episodes merely shrugged it off. Yes, the character development here may arguably not be as strong as say, ShinkenRed, Rio, Abarekiller, Black Hawk, or any number of past Sentai heroes. However, who says a series has to focus solely on character development? Again, this is what I liked about Gokaiger, it's good in almost everything, even if it may not excel as much as past examples. Gokaiger is more than the sum of its parts, and those parts are all very good to begin with, in my opinion. |

Joe experienced no change. He never hesitated in fighting once he found out Barizog was his former friend, he never attempted to disprove that the transformation was irreversible, and he had spent years thinking Sid was already dead, so when he finally destroyed Barizog there was no emotion. Marvelous and Basco? That resolved a (Admittedly awesome) story line. Neither character grew. Ahim's was so pathetic that it wasn't worth mentioning. Maybe if we were informed beforehand, maybe, but no. Monster shows up, next episode Ahim says he was the one who blew up her planet, episode after that she kills him. Doc's was legitimate character growth and I can't argue that. I kind of see what you're saying, Den-O, but I don't necessarily agree. We got their back stories fairly early on, so there wasn't this huge air of mystery to the characters, and I like that. But I also enjoy watching characters grow. Like Wataru in Kiva, going from a man who can barely talk to anyone and sulking in his tub when things don't go his way to the badass Fangire King. I understand that, being Sentai, it has to balance growth on 5-6+ characters rather than just one or two in KR, but I think Gokai just gave too much. It felt like it was all style, no substance. |

Sure Ahim's backstory was only examined for an episode, but her character did develop overtime. When we first saw her, we saw a lady sipping tea, politely asking citizens for their help when they first landed. Then we saw her in battle, showing her marksmanship. Okay, we have our first view of Ahim- a polite princess firing two guns and being good at it. Skip to episode 7, where she and Doc get their asses kicked by the MOTW. She resolves to become less of a nuisance and train. Sure it's a Doc-focused episode, but we can see that she's willing to commit to becoming stronger too. Skip to episode 13 where she was being held hostage. Despite being in a somewhat dangerous situation, she kept her cool and even managed to swindle her teammates out of money to help pay her kidnapper. There's the third view of Ahim, the "nice but crafty" side. Episode 16 showed that she can keep her cool even in Basco's grasp. Skip to episode 23, the GoGo V episode. Here we have Luka's backstory, but Ahim still has some part in this episode. She's tired of being viewed as the little sister everybody needs to protect and speaks out. Skip to episode 29, the Abare episode. She shows that she can be as devious as her fellow crewmates by tricking the MOTW with her various costumes, also showing a comedic side of her after Emiri gives her the Abare Pink key. And now for her main focus episode, 41. We see the person who destroyed her planet. If you were her, wouldn't you go into a blinding rage and try to take him down yourself? We see that in Ahim. We also see her when she first encountered the Gokaiger crew- she had just witnessed her parents death, her planet was destroyed and she was now face to face with the only people with enough balls to stand up against the empire that took everything from her. Does she show any weakness? No, she walks up to them and asks if she can join them. We see her first handle a GokaiGun, and gets blown by the recoil. Now reflect to how she is today- she can handle two in one hand and not even flinch. Then we see her tell the crew that she wants revenge on the person who took everything from her. What do they do? They do one of the most epic fight scenes in Gokaiger with her theme song in the background. She has her crewmates launch an attack, Gai block said reflected attack, then come up and shoot the enemy point blank. Then she leads them in epic GokaiChanges- The Go-On Wings with Gai, the Gouraigers with Doc, GoseiPink and GoseiYellow with Luka, DekaSwan and DekaMaster with Joe, and double ShinkenRed with Marvelous, ending the entire fight with a "This is for..." speech with a Pink Charge blast from the GokaiGalleon Buster. She reveals that there are other survivors from her planet, and now she wants to be their beacon of hope. We saw her go from the Yamato Nadeshiko of the crew into a badass gun-toting girl who would do anything for the ones she loves, who won't back down, and will make sure that she'll be the beacon of hope for her people and protect those in need. If that ain't a character development, then I don't know what is. End of rant. |
You just listed her character traits. While it could be argued that the flashback to her first joining the crew could qualify as growth in that she was pitiful compared to now, I wouldn't agree, as she was nothing like she was in the flashback in ep 1.
As a character, Ahim is fine. She's crafty, nice, and calm. But she didn't really grow. She broke character once, and immediately reverted back to calm, soft-spoken Ahim once back on the Galleon, and that's not character development. |
I still haven't gotten around to watch Dai, Magi, Geki, and Time that are in my HD. Only Shinken, Gokai, Deka, and Gosei so far. Therefore I cannot give my opinion just yet. I also want to check out Hurricane and Jetman before I'll give my thoughts on this topic. I do like Gokai for the F/X and action, Shinken for the story, Gosei for Mikki and Rika, and Deka for Jasmine. :)
