o_o Wait... so Junglefury, and RPM didn't suck?
|
The reason I think Jungle Fury would get 3 is because he seems to be the type of fan that would *LOVE* RJ and Dominic, but especially RJ. I see RJ getting almost an entire "part" dedicated to him. But when you throw in the Spirit Rangers, you can't really do them justice explaining them in a 10 second bit: "And here we have the Spirit Rangers, Disney and Bandai's answer to not having a 6th Ranger and wanting to increase toy sales" ...
The brainwashing/mind-control that made them evil and decent foes, the fact that the Bat Ranger had the most awesome helmet ever, the fact it's the first father/son Ranger duo, the first Ranger with a handicap (blind), I can go on and on ... |

RPM though was out-standing, and any fan of Power Rangers who always wanted a little more "serious" take on the show (ie: a more realistic explanation as opposed to MAGICAL WIZARD FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION GAVE US POWERS TO FIGHT ALIENS FROM THE MOON!) needs to watch it. Compare storylines. MMPR - Zordon, a wizard stuck "out of dimension", picks 5 teenagers with attitude to take on ancient power coins that transform them in to Power Rangers to fight the evil space alien Rita Repulsa, who was imprisoned on the moon for thousands of years! RPM - Venjix, a sentient computer virus, creates an army of Grinders and cripples the world's computer networks, allowing his robotic armies to lay waste and destruction to the entire world. The domed city of Corinth is the last standing city for mankind. Dr. K, a mysterious individual, taps in to the bio-field and creates a team of super-powered synthetic colored heroes known as the Power Rangers RPM. They are mankind's last chance for survival as Venjix's armies close in on Corinth... Which would you rather watch? :p |

Yeah, I've been avoiding Rpm, and Junglefury like plague just because of how terrible I have heard it was... And, same goes for Samurai Rangers... Which, I tried watching but... Ugh, dat acting. |
Maki, my friend ... give RPM a chance. I turned a lot of "omg Power Rangers is dumb" people in to RPM fans. The series breaks away from all of the Kalish-era flubs that we all hated so much.
RPM Pro's - Story doesn't circulate around the Red Ranger (lol instead it's the Black Ranger!) - There's an unmorphed humans vs. humans scene in a prison (!) (which pissed off Disney apparently) - There's a "cartel" ... you know, like a drug cartel, just not mentioning the word drugs - There's death (flashbacks, but still, PEOPLE ACTUALLY DIE) - Except for zord battles, it's nearly 100% New Zealand footage - Old school "unmorphed" fights against the foot soldiers, and the actors do a lot of it themselves (a lot less stunt doubles used) - It makes fun of itself (a couple of episodes actually poke fun at the suits, the zords, and the unnecessary explosions) - AWESOME background music - The title has nothing to do with the show (Disney and Bandai came up with "RPM" to mean "Race Performance Machines", basing it off what they saw of the Sentai version seeing as Go-Onger involved sentient "racing partner zords" ... however, RPM totally ignores all of that, and if I remember, only call themselves "Power Rangers RPM" after Eddie G was let go and Judd Lynn replaced him) RPM Con's - After Eddie G left and was replaced by Judd Lynn, a storyline from one of Judd Lynn's earlier Power Rangers show is basically recycled nearly plot-point by plot-point - After we get specific Ranger episodes for each of the main five Rangers, we never really get any decent backstory for a couple of them for the rest of the season, namely Summer (Yellow Ranger). - The Gold and Silver Ranger's speech pattern ... jarring at first, it does get better, but if it annoys you when you first hear it, it will continue to annoy you for the rest of the season - Having the Executive Producer change in the middle of the season ... you can feel it, the show feels changed somewhat, and the episodes become more of a direct copy/paste of the Sentai versus being totally original. Seriously though. Give it a chance. You won't regret it! |
I've been watching this series. It's kinda cool although he rants on some pointless stuff sometimes and some of his facts are not right.
But hardcore Ranger fans have some funky taste, I don't understand the hate on RPM sometimes. Quote:

You should have.
In Space storyline: Astronema is revealed to be the sister of Andros, the Red Ranger. She is momentarily freed and becomes good until the season's big bad brainwashes her. Until the multi-part finale, she remains under control but eventually joins Andros as he leaves with his friends. RPM storyline: Tenaya 7 is revealed to be the sister of Dillon, the Black Ranger. She is momentarily freed and becomes good until the season's big bad brainwashes her. Until the multi-part finale, she remains under control but eventually joins Dillon as he leaves with his girlfriend. Judd Lynn was responsible for both storylines. Remember what Eddie G originally wanted. Dillon was actually always meant to be the final body for Venjix, and the series would end with "Ranger Black", where the Power Rangers face the reality of having to defeat the main villain by defeating their friend. Oh what could have been. |
Oh duh, Mr. Ranger expert here completely over looked that LOL! But I remember what he wanted to do, I would pay good money to just read that!
|
I challenge your Ranger knowledge in a ... KNOW IT ALL FACE OFF.
|
Right on! I'm down, got nothing else better to do :P
|
I HATE ZYURANGER 2 FOOTAGE IN MMPR S2
i want see 5 main rangers meet 5 acient rangers in s2 like in dairanger ep 8 |
I would love if someone would release the original "Zyu2" footage, even if it is without any audio. I just want to see how the original battles were shot without the PR scene breaks and the Thunder Megazord stitched in.

With Power Morphicon occurring this year, I wonder if there'll be another 9 month gap between episodes...
|
Linkara has a lot to do in his life, History of Power Rangers being one of them. But since Mystic Force through RPM are only 32-episode seasons, I think we won't have to wait that long.

Update regarding Mystic Force:

There's a review of the series at the end, but he goes over every detail sans filler (And even then, he even goes over the filler if something occurs that, while not important to the plot, would be worth checking out). And I'm glad that he acknowledged that the 8 month long gap was pretty ridiculous. I was afraid his "It'll be done when it's done" mentality would mean we couldn't complain about it. |
According to his latest Blog post, it pretty much flatly states that he'll continue during/after February.
|
Darn, I've been looking forward to his Mystic Force video(s) :(

That's a pretty big disappointment to me. Only because I have thoroughly enjoyed the videos he's done. Like a nice, outsider perspective to the series I've watched. It's disappointing because we're down to, if we're lucky, 2 series a year. We blew through the first half of the entire franchise in what, 8 months?
Ah well. Gotta wait for the good stuff I suppose. |
Does anyone find it funny that when Linkara started HOPR it was during PR's hiatus year but also he did it during the two year spread of samurai? Its like Disney and Saban said, "Here Linkara, we'll give you time to make these PR retrospectives without getting too far ahead of you."

Linkara's newest Atop the Forth Wall (Tales of Suspense #39) has an extra ad in the middle for Power Rangers Redux including Ron Wasserman making a voice cameo. This not new worthy, but a bit neat.
|
After some behind-the-scenes troubles the project is back underway! Enjoy Mystic Force:

Huzzah! :D

I understand he does this in his own free time, but if there wasn't such a gap between the two, he probably wouldn't have to spend 20 minutes at the start of each video defending himself.
|
It's because of his overall mentality towards the series.
He treats it as a side project to do for fun, with a much reduced priority compared to Atop the 4th Wall, but he just doesn't realize that, just maybe, when he has literal legions of people asking for the next History, that some people really like the series and don't want to see it shoved aside for another drawn out and convoluted AT4W story line. It's just like his first Top 15 Screw Ups video. He puts more effort into defending himself and his actions rather than owning up and accepting that he was the one to blame, not everyone else around him. And that's my overall assessment of Linkara. It always feels like he's saying "I'm not the one making a mistake. I'm just forced to work after someone else screwed up first." |

Otherwise, good review. He does bring up the ending feeling rushed, which I feel is something many seasons have a problem with, especially as they got shorter. |
Alright, just finished it.
Nice review. There really wasn't much for me to comment on since we share an opinion on Mystic Force (A very, very flawed good series, rather than a bad series with good elements). Anyway, I can't wait for Operation Overdrive next year! That one's gonna be hilarious! Oh, and he mentioned that he wanted to make an addendum video to correct some false information when he finishes. I can't wait to see that in 2020. LINKARA. DO YOU GET THE JOKE? IT'S THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE A YEAR TO WATCH 30-40 TWENTY MINUTE LONG EPISODES. |

Anyway, I watched part one since I have a decent lunch break (and lousy wi-fi that made doing so take about five minutes longer than it should have). Since the part I really want to see is the character analysis, I obviously haven't gotten to the good part. Enjoyable so far, but there hasn't been nearly enough gushing about how fucking great Vida is. Although it is adorable that he actually bothers to talk about Madison. |
Judging by his tone at the very end of part 3 of his review, it sounds to me like he's going to give Operation Overdrive the beatdown it deserves.
|
I just can't stand linkara anymore, his complete and utter distain for super sentai is just mind blowing, how can you seriously call your series, THE HISTORY OF POWER RANGERS, when most of the issues he has with certain aspects of power rangers can be answered by at least referencing the sentai footage. Sentai footage is the reason power rangers even exist so yeah, its quite crutial to the HISTORY OF POWER RANGERS
its sad, Saban sees linkara as an influential power rangers fan and he is just such a horrible fan |
