True, true. I would just wonder how they would reverse Phantomization(I'm trademarking that word by the way). I presume this story arch would take place when Beast is around. I mean nobody's been looking for a way to reverse the Phantom pandemic now when we have one Rider so what would looking for a way to reverse it do good if the series had one Rider to protect it in the first place? Pull a magic stone out of Wajima's ass that's what.

Sure, he lacks depth and nuance, I'll give you that. But I like how they made a classic, charming hero who is still flawed. He doesn't steam roll through every fight, he doesn't get everything right on the first go and he isn't perfect at everything he tries but he is still cool and serious enough to be a convincing hero who has achieved just enough to validate his worth. He manages to have big emotional moments and for such a serious character can shift into subtle humour very naturally and amusingly.

I can't help but feel most people don't like Haruto because he is pretty unique, I mean don't misunderstand me there are a million Haruto's out there but I've been discovering more and more that Toku characters usually fit into three categories, 'immortal', 'useless' or 'goofball'. And he doesn't quite fit in any of them and yet sort of fits in all three at the same time. I guess that is a big part of the appeal for me.

I would also find Haruto as bland as everyone else, if he was like King or like Tendou, because to me the mark of a bland Toku hero is one who never faces any conflict he can't yawn himself through.

No way man, I think he's just fine. Underutilized in that he doesn't have much time to really just be a character, but when he does, he does well.

He's no Shotaro, but he's just fine as far as I can tell.

Not sure about that hair, though. I mean, that's kind of every Kamen Rider's hairstyle ever.

I don't find Haruto to be any of those. Every time I see Haruto in a non action scene, it seems to be him giving a blank stare straight forward. He's just sitting around, waiting for the plot of the week to start.

Compare that to Double, which had Shotaro and Philip constantly solving crimes and looking for who was dealing the memories and later.
Only recently has Haruto ever taken an active stance.

I find Haruto to be dull, and he really isn't unique, being a more subdued Wataru/Kiva.
I found him a bore to watch and only tends to be interesting when working with the zany Nitou.

To which I counter with Eiji, Ryoutaro, Decade, Kiva...

I mean it's that or whatever hairstyle Agito and Ryuki were rocking.

I find that to be irrelevant.
It doesn't matter if he found Double to be the worst Rider series ever.
It doesn't change the characters or their actions.

Well that isn't true, Haruto has had ups, downs, comedy, scenes where he has to support characters and scenes where characters have to support him. To act like he does nothing out of the action scenes is a downright lie. I'm not going to go out and say he's this multi-layered protagonist for the ages but people go on and on here like he does nothing and that is absolute bullshit.

So far all Beast has done is put mayo on things and every time it seems like he's going through a character arc he comes full circle again and yet everyone praises Beast and shits on Haruto. That isn't to say I dislike Beast, I find him a lot of fun, but it's funny that Haruto comes under such harsh criticism and yet Beast is praised so heavily despite adding so little to the series.

And did you read that whole paragraph about the uniqueness or just stop on the word unique?

Eh...Ryoutaro's hair was messier, and Eiji's was kind of spiky at the ends.

My biggest problem with Haruto now is that back when Flame Dragon was introduced there seemed to be implications that using the dragon's powers the way he was would come back to bite him in the ass someday. 20 odd episodes later and he's just some huge powerhouse that can curbstomp pretty much any Phantom and having a monster living inside of him isn't any sort of hindrance. It just isn't interesting.

I never got that from those episodes. They established from the beginning that he had already suppressed his Phantom.

He said Rider, not Riders. Though, I do like Philip and Shotaro, I just like Gentarou more.

They did that with Beast as well, I kinda hoped that Dragon and Chimera would be like Shirosaki and whenever they were almost dead, their inner Phantom's would take over for pure insanity.

Philip and Shotaro are two halves of a single detective. That's one kamen rider.
