The next episode preview didn't suggest entirely serious to me either, but hey - the more comedic Sentai are alright with me too.

I don't mine comedy at all, I just hope there's a good balance. |
Just finished, really enjoyed it. Has a lot of promise and i am loving the buddyoids
that ending theme is amazing :lol |
It was certainly fine, but I didn't really feel strongly one way or the other about it.. Looks like the budget was maybe a bit higher... this looked more like latter-day Kamen rider to me in terms of production value. Also, with a couple of exceptions, I thought the CGI was better blended with the practical effects than in years past. The mech battle was among the best I've seen in Sentai.
Oh, and I was very confused about the "freezing up" thing. I thought it was some kind of ESPer action... not a joke, as such. Guess we'll see. |
a+....just....so A+
Congrats Sentai...will you finally be able to do an (indisputable) 2 good seasons in a row? |

Well, for a first episode, it established that Blue and Yellow, despite receiving constant training and being overall combat ready, are vastly inferior to Red, who could do more to the enemy in 5 shots then the two could do in 3 minutes with the same weapons.
Nothing made sense, the concept of why the rangers were "Special" and the Buddyroids had no explanation whatsoever, only 2 characters were actually introduced, the Engrish was more forced than funny, and the fighting was a bit too wire fu for now. HOWEVER, it's only the first episode, so I'm more willing to change my opinion as the series goes on. I'll also admit that some of the action was cool, the zord battle was neat, and the lack of a stock morphing sequence was a nice change of pace. But as a first episode goes, I was just bored and confused. |
WRONG!! There was not enough wire-fu.
|
Ok, maybe I've just been too tired for the past 2 nights, but the two times that I tried to watch the first episode, I find myself nodding off, so I will give it one more try, from what I remember though, the mecha scenes looks incredible.

That's not to say that this episode was a bewildering plopped-in-the-middle-of-nowhere episode like "The Team Unites" was for Samurai. We got all we need to know, from the personalities of the main senshi, to their supporting cast, and a glimpse at who the main enemies are. The world-building is saved for later episodes. I don't think Blue and Yellow were slouches in combat either, as they managed to hold themselves well for the entire episode until Red came in with a surprise attack on the monster (honestly if I were the monster I'd really be caught off-guard by a guy about to crash into me with on a motorbike). Finally, remember that it was they who defeated the monster, not Red. |
It's pretty classicly the Red Rangers job to show up and save the first Episodes day, Dekaranger, Abaranger, Gekiranger, I wouldn't take it as a comment on the other two, just (as was said) part of the World Building.
Also GoBuster is the Same Writer as Shinkenger? I did not know that. But excitment has doubled! |
Like I said, it's only a first episode, so I'm more than willing to let go of my complaints. It has 22 minutes to establish the Rangers, the villains, and the side characters in addition to having some form of action.
But, as first episodes go, it could've done a better job, is all. |
Overall, I thought that it was ok, gobuster ace is pretty cool, although having a cheetah head pop out of the front of a sports car is a bit odd, and i really wonder how the toy will work. I was getting kind of a go-onger feel from it, i like the homages to mmpr, and its kind of funny seeing a bad guy being referred to as a megazord. The soundtrack really reminded me of kamen rider double. I felt like the pacing was a little too fast, and there wasn't enough backstory, but I'm quite sure that that will be fixed. I will try not to let gokaiger color my opinions of this show, and I am pretty sure that it will really pick up as the show goes on

Just finished episode 1 of Gobusters.
So far, it's off to a really good start I think. I'm still getting use to hearing MMPR terms in a Sentai series, and there's something about this show that makes it feel Kamen Riderish. Seeing RedBuster drive into Buster Ace like that gave me flashbacks of W for sure. This is series is also giving me vibes of Megaman NT Warrior/Battle Network. I think this is also the most realistic feeling as far as Sentai goes. Also, whenever they say "Enetron", it sounds like they wanna say "Energon". And given the fact that their mecha in this series are basically Transformers, makes me wonder if it's intentional. |
rabbit fighting gorilla in ep 1
maybe red 's sister come next gobuster |
Ok, watched it again, stayed awake through out this time, not bad, not bad at all, waiting to see where they are leading me, even the dance number isn't so bad, but still reminded me of the end to Goseiger. Oh, and there is no reaction to Yellow Buster, it's like watching my little sister. Luka is still my number one :)
Oh yeah, the transformation sequence for CB-01 is totally how Transformers should be done. |

As cool as the new mechs are I'm kinda put off by the cockpit looking thing on top of the car. Its not actually the cockpit and due to its size and placement it mars the aesthetic of every mode. If it weren't there the cheetah mode wouldn't have a big hump on its back, there wouldn't be two big chunks of plastic on the mech's thighs/really high knees, and the vehicle mode wouldn't look so oversized. Either way, def enjoyed the first episode and looking forward to the megazord's candy toy more than I already was. |

I really enjoyed what I saw and loved what I didn't see. No stock transformation footage, no roll call, none of that stupid jumping over the camera while flipping. It looks very action oriented, but clearly there's a story that'll slowly come out over the course of the season.
I very much look forward to more. |
One thing that I have to say was REALLY interesting was the "cold open" per say with the opening credits. Rather than do a regular opening reel, they instead overlaid it on top of the episode's action already in progress and turned a chunk of the episode into the opening.
I'm curious if episode 2 will do the same, or just start playing a stock opening (which I would be fine with) |

I dug it. It was definitely interesting enough to get me looking forward to next week, i have a feeling that it'll take a few episodes to properly find its feet though. But yeah i thought it did a very good job of establishing Hiromu and it seems like he could be a good red. Roll on next week.
Also, anybody else think that Hiromu's sister was drawing Hiyori's fairy things? =p |

I encourage fans of Nao to check out 'Hotel Chelsea' on YouTube if you can deal with a little bad acting =p Very different role for her. I'm also led to believe that she's the hot healer/witch woman ( the one wearing the orange kimono type thing...) in Kanon, although I've only seen one episode and she looks completely different =p Nao to, see what I did there =], get back on topic... Go-busters has the hot-ish new girl at Hq at least... |
Still can't get used to "It's Morphin' Time!" ... whoever woulda thought a bunch of American Toku fans all "HMMM I DUNNO!" about something Sentai related, as opposed to the other way around.
|
I totally forgot about this series. I should give the first ep a watch.

Also the end dance. WTF! Guess I'll skip over the end credits. |
I liked the first episode, especially the mech fight and the double finisher at the end.
I'm hoping it keeps constant throughout the rest of the show. |
