It's really amazing how opinions can differ so much! I just don't really get the hate on Beast.

Anyhow, I'm not so emotionally invested in Beast to be willing to defend him just yet. Maybe if his debut on the show is interesting enough, I might like him more.

I'm in the 'really like beast' camp. Design wise alone he's shaping up to be one if my favourite secondary riders. I just hope he follows how wizard's upgrade embraces the dragon in him more, so that beast will become more chimera like. Could make for a big bruiser type guy, something that's often lacking in Kamen Rider.

He's based around a Chimera,not a lion.But it still has the lion aspect.The thing that gets me is that is Toei on some kind of lion kick? Does every new rider series have to have a lion in it somewhere?

OOO had LaToraTah and Kazari,Fourze had the Leo Zodiart(Which I have no problem with at all),and now Wizard has beast,which is basically another lion Rider.(Supposed to be Chimera,yet without the capes he's a lion)

I'm wondering now, would you consider Momotaros a blatant copy of the Albino Joker Undead? Their helmets look strikingly similar if you squint really hard.

I seem to recall there's an undead that looks alot like W, Beasts Driver is reminiscent of the Shogun Buckle, There's that kaijin from RX that looks exactly like a monster form of Shadow Moon but isn't him at all, Red Hawk and Red Falcon get confused for one another all the time. There's tons of similarities between all kinds of toku, and bound to be more too.

For the record I think Beast looks fantastic and the cape gimmick is awesome.

It's not lazy to reuse designs or design elements. It's inevitable. It happens.

They aren't reusing it given they never used it in the first place.

It was on Super Samurai. I know it has, I've seen it. It's been used, Toei is using it, it's being reused.

The average Japanese child has not seen Power Rangers Super Samurai, and probably will not for several years (given they're airing what, Mystic Force at the moment?).
Toei have never used a gimmick similar to the Shogun belt before in one of their series.
The gimmick is new to Japan, and not a rehash of something they've done before. You only say its lazy because you have the ability to watch both Samurai and Wizard.

Besides, I can pretty much guarantee the Wizard Driver will get far better usage than the Shogun belt ever did. Hell it wasn't even used the one time Shogun mode was used for a fight sequence.

Not at all, I'm not a huge fan of the design either. I just attribute it to looking bad rather than being an apparent rip off of various other things.

If you just dislike the design, go ahead. But hating it for only loosely "ripping off" other character designs is a lazy excuse.

(And for the record the mayo thing was a joke, despite my true hatred of it. But seriously I will cringe during any scene he uses it. But then go back to loving him when he transforms.)

And Zeo brings up a great point about the Beast Driver. Very, very few Japanese kids will have seen that. So it'll work for them. And a lion head does look a little better than a giant face over your crotch.

I hate hate hate his design. The helmet looks like LaToraTah got into Albert Wesker's hair gel stash. The asymmetrical design is clearly just rehashing Meteor because he was a popular character, the belt is just the Shogun Buckle. The cape feels out of place and tacked on, and he puts mayo on doughnuts.

That's because a Chimera is the merging of multiple animals. The resemblance to the lion is because the lion is probably the most common animal seen used for a chimera.
The other animals come in the form of those capes and the other shoulder pad.

I understand that part,by all means.It's just they use so many felines in Kamen Rider,you mean to tell me they couldn't think of a better theme for a secondary rider? How exactly is a matador magical? If they didn't make him a matador they could've just designed the suit itself to look like a chimera.Have the helmet be reptile like,the chest a lion,and either shoulder be the bull and hawk/falcon.

Then he wouldn't have multiple forms, and Bandai couldn't sell as many action figures, and wouldn't have as much money to do stuff.

I'd think they would pull a fourze with him instead of multiple figure.I can see them saying "Hey,here's cape set 1" cause you know they'll make more.My point is thats what has me not liking beast.Instead of making a great style for a character,they go with that just for the money.

I don't really feel felines are all that prominent in KR. I mean, yeah, if you start counting monsters too, then cats are everywhere. But we've only had like, 1 Spider Rider (Leangle), but you could argue that Spiders are prominent because those kinds of monsters show up all the time.
I do agree that they could've done more to emphasize the Chimera aspect of his design, though.

Hell, they could've done a mix and match, low rent Fourze kind of style, with the Lion also being interchangeable.
