I loved the Goseiger mouthplates. It gave their costumes some good personality on top of an already great design.

Some mouthplates with the lips work with the helmets their on,some just look horrible.lol

Me too. I hate lips on senshi(though there are exceptions, like Battle Fever J and Ultraman) and, to a lesser extent, mecha(one of the many reasons why I love the Buster Machines).

Wow, until you mentioned it, I never realized that the vast majority of mecha have lips. That's bizarre, I would think I would have noticed it before.

Yeah, we rarely go a whole series without at least one robo having lips(which is weird, you'd think the helmets worn by humans would have lips more often than giant robots).

I actually never noticed that until you brought up. I went and looked at some of the old mechas, and sure enough, they have lips. It does look weird on them.

Whats wrong with lips on a Mecha? I like the design of a humanoid Mecha face, long as it fits. Daizyujin/Megazord with a mouth would've looked wrong. While Gouryuzin/Dragon Megazord with one fit.

I think lips that don't move to talk on anything are weird.

It's really nothing wrong with the mecha that have lips, but that the ones with the faceplate just look so much cooler.

This time I have to agree with Sentai, some mecha look better without faceplates, such as Gosei Great, others better with like DaiZyuJin, while others could go either way, like GokaiOh.

I cannot imagine anything from Geki having a faceplate. It would just look weird. Or Ohranger Robo? No.

I can imagine GekiTouja, GekiFire, and SaidaiOh having faceplates.
Ohranger Robo, with it's helmet swap gimmick, could totally pull off a faceplate.

You only say designs would seem weird because it's the design you're used to. The Gosei Great you know had lips, thus, it would seem odd to change it.

We can't discount that, I suppose. It's like how everyone cried out when Optimus Prime got lips because they were so used to the faceplate design.

No. Optimus didn't work in the movie because Bay is a money-whore who didn't care about the characters.

Not just the movies. Practically every Japanese made series after G1 (Sans Armada) gave Prime some smackers.

Not to mention that Beast Wars was the first to give an Optimus lips, even to the point of accentuating it further in later designs (like Transmetals Optimus).

Boy, that added a lot of fuel to the "Trukk not Munky" fire. :lol

That can be mitigated by Primal and Prime not being the same character, while Hasbro treats the Primes of other series as alternate universe interpretations of the G1 character.

Also, case in point: Primal looked so much cooler with his face plate up.

Yeah Primal wasn't included in the Hall of Fame display case. Initially, though, it seemed they wanted Primal to be an alternate Optimus Prime, especially when Primal was a bat. However if you look carefully, bat Primal has a faceplate mouth.

Even gorilla Primal has an Optimus Prime color scheme.

Now, call me crazy, but aside from Movie Prime, I actually like it when Optimuses have their faceplates down, from Primal to Animated, to Prime. I feel it gives them more personality. I would say, though, that the faceplate look gives Optimus a more authoritative feel.

I remember that from Wild Force's opening, but did that ever happen in Gaoranger? Or at least in the actual show? Still, at least Gao King used the lips for something.

Considering Wild Force never modified any of the Zord footage, then it had to happen in Gao at least once...
