You have to remember, though.
It doesn't wipe out what has already been created though. The novels and comics are still there. You can still play the games.
Until something in the EU is directly contradicted, there's no reason to assume that the thousands of years that have gone by are spontaneously wiped out just because some asshat in a suit declares it so.

Just the setting of the movie and Chewbacca's actor signing on does negate a good portion of it though...

I'm sorry if I can't help but feel betrayed as a fan and like all of those years and dollars spent are basically being called a waste by those in charge now.

That's how I feel right now.

The desire to focus Episode 7 on the original three stars instead of letting new actors take the reign (only to apparently switch to them in 8 and 9?) made it clear they're just desperate to guarantee butts in seats despite being so far out already. Even though as a Star Wars film, it was sure to do that from the beginning.

Don't feel too bad. What you've basically become is a Star Trek fan. :lol In Star Trek nothing is canon except the movies and TV shows, so all those books, comics, video games released every year? Non-canon. Doesn't mean we can't still enjoy them, though.

In a way I feel this is good. EU is fun, but the movie-makers should never be beholden to them, because it has become quite a severe mess especially the post ROTJ ones (at least in my opinion). Better to start fresh. I too have spent years and dollars, but it's not wasted. We enjoyed those stories, so it doesn't change anything. :)

I'm in the middle of reading Aaron Allston's last book and it's also the last one I own that I haven't read yet... Despite all these years there's still more I haven't gotten to. Now I have to ask myself whether it's worth it to...

Maybe treat it like an alternate timeline? In Star Trek the universe was split at Captain Kirk's birth. This allowed fans to keep their old timeline (with Captains Picard, Sisko and Janeway) while the movies were free to explore the new timeline. To this day, stories continue to be published in the old timeline and are still enjoyed by many. For example, the MMO Star Trek Online is set in the old timeline.

At the end of the day, everything is Star Wars, just need to apply a bit of creativity into how you handle the canons. :) No one's experience need be negated, it just means the canons won't cross each other.

All joking aside, when they said that The Clone Wars was cannon, that left me with one question: Is the 2003-2005 Clone Wars series cannon as well? Star Wars: The Clone Wars seems to fit perfectly within Star Wars: Clone Wars.

I don't think the Tartakovsky one is included, and besides there are many inconsistencies between both series. The big one being the exclusion of Ahsoka.

Simple. Ahsoka joins after a certain episode of Clone Wars, and she leaves before the next episode.

Additionally, didn't the 03 Clone Wars explain Grevious's injurious and cough in Attack of the Clones?

You mean Revenge of the Sith? Yeah, it did explain that, which is another inconsistency. Plus certain characters died in The Clone Wars that were still alive in Clone Wars 03.

Well, I went on Star Tours for the first time this past Friday... I didn't wear the 3D glasses. :lol The hydraulics on it are INTENSE, though. I was like "Seatbelts? Why? We're in a glorified Screening Room....Oh God! That's why!" I was a huge nerd when I was on it though, since when Darth Vader showed up and started gripping the ship with The Force, I started acting like I got into a Force struggle with him. I was like "Oh no you don't!" :lol

Oh man, that was one of the best rides I've ever sat in in my life.

Seriously. :lol I was glad I finally got to go on it, since the last time I went to Disneyland, they were having the employee only preview for it, and the time before that it was broken down.

I personally don't see the need for 3D on it, reason being this...you're on a ship...with a cockpit/windshield in the front...so stuff shouldn't be flying out at you.

3D is so needed! It really gave it depth and field, similar to the Transformers ride in Universal. In Star Wars the 3D is less of the "pop-out kind" (aka IMAX-style 3D) and more of the "contained in the screen" kind.

Okay, it isn't May 4th for all the world, but it is for at least a large enough part for me to say:

This really gets me excited. The animatronic alien looked incredible.

Everyone seems excited about the alien, but I am too. :lol

Overall the set and the alien just screams Star Wars to me, and it made me really excited to see that they've gotten the look down so well, at least in this scene.
