People can read this however they want to but they didn't include a male yellow because they thought kids would mistake it for a woman. And they didn't just make yellow a woman because the implication here is that too many women would equal a weak team. That IS sexism. They're making a connection that female characters are perceived to be weaker than men. So in order to create a more "powerful and strong" sentai they only have one woman. That's just such ham-fisted logic to use to justify no yellow. The production staff had already commented on there being no yellow previously because of the afformentioned yellow on yellow color problem. Expanding on that reasoning with this whole mistaken gender thing is unnecessary. |
So...Any clues why yellow has gone on to become a female dominant role?

Power rangers didn't do it first though, they just stuck with it and it worked. I'd imagine that's the biggest influence, both sides are obviously going watch what the others doing to see if it can work or be improved on.
Maybe, don't know =p That'd be my best guess and I don't think I've read anything on it specifically =] |
Sentai teamS with diffent colors combo
changeman got red , black, blue, white, pink |
I disagree with it, Hurricane Yellow wasn't feminine and he was fairly recent, well, it's not like having male pink rangers...

It kinda did make sense though, in response to you at least Sentai. In the bit that he quoted you were specifically talking about how as a fandom we wouldn't be able to realise that it's a male yellow and not a female. I think that part about kids getting confused is a fair enough statement as I said previously, Banaba just over reacted to your over reaction.
Den on the other hand is talking about the initial line in the statement, about choosing to have more male characters. This is of course sexist as Den and others have said and doesn't really play any part in the Yellow gender confusion bit. TL;DR- two arguments seem to have got mixed up. One about whether 'kids' would get confused by a male yellow. The second about how you can't have a 'strong' and 'brave' team with two female characters in it =] |
i like sentai teams with 1 female or 2 females

...This argument is getting us nowhere. |

But still the Yellow being too feminine issue could be solved just by having a dinosaur motif different than the usual, or have a slightly different color scheme. The whole idea of "two girls not being able to take down a dinosaur" excuse they made is extremely stupid considering the one girl on this team had to face a freaking triceratops. A TRICERATOPS. WITH A DRILL FOR A TAIL. |
we all know saban going to throw mmpr motif and have 2 females the pr verstion of this show so green or blue might be female

Femininity doesn't mean homosexual, and being homosexual doesn't mean they're feminine. |

I did not like the implication that females = weak and therefore you can only have one girl on the team, since she'd be somewhat of an oddity. Because having two strong female characters would be completely preposterous!
I understand that yellow has become more of a feminine colour though, I'm fine with that and I don't have a problem with them marketing a show aimed at boys at boys and leaving out a second girl on the team for that reason, but that's not what was said. Chalking it up to "cultural differences" doesn't make it any better either. |

I would've taken the color comment. Because the two yellows would look weird, I get that. But the first comment about femininity makes me think the second explination was just one of those bullshit "Sorry if I offended anyone" apologies. |
