Let it be known that Action Comics Volume 2: Bulletproof is a bit confusing but still enjoyable to read and Earth 2 is a superb series (judgement based solely on the first six issues).
|
So I finally finished Horns by Joe Hill, which ended up being one of the worst books I've ever read.
Now I've moved onto the Amulet of Samarkand. It's nothing really all that special so far, and kinda slow, but I love Urban Fantasy so.... |
Up to issue 13 of Ultimate Spiderman.
So now we're out of the arc where Peter is exposing some mob dudes and reveals himself to be Spiderman to Mary Jane and gets mistaken for having sex up in his room by Aunt May. HAHAHAHAHA Oh Aunt May. Psyren volume 12. Well now, we only have 4 volumes left to wrap up the story since this volume was about killing the Psionic test subjects that become WISE and destroy the future. Also, Dark Amiyama shows up, who literally is a skin tone black version of Amiyama expressing her secret fears and desires. I hope that this series can wrap up well but since the final volume doesn't come out until May or June, I'm going to be waiting a while. Bakuman volumes 11 and 12 Yay, Airoshogi's series got to stay in Jump. Now to get back to the subplots... WAIT. The story soon focus on this feminine looking guy assistant Ahrishogi hired and his Bitch of a mom not considering manga a true form of art. Its nice to get an outside perpective on managa for once and sort of the united struggle that Mashiro and Takashi along with their assistants had with this ignorant bitch. The next volume consists of Takashi getting a second series by working with the feminie dude I mentioned earlier. And Mashiro working to get a second series himself, so he tries to speed up his drawing time. This volume became a drag because all of the subplots disappeared and the main plot became kinda boring. Sure, it was about Takagi and Mashiro improving themselves, but it was just to be greedy assholes and not to improve Perfect Crime Party at all. The one of the best story arcs within the few previous volumes I've read was when Arioshogi was trying to surpass Crow and +Natural. They realized the art stlye of PCP was too dark colored and Eiji 1-uped them by making a worldless chapter of Crow and a crossover with +Natural. Both parties improved thier skills and got more out thier conflict. But at the end of volume 12, we see Takagi's rival being a greedy bitch saying she's going to get a second series too. |
Ultimate Spiderman issues 14-32
This shit's getting good. [spoiler] Kraven was a funny pushover and Doc Ock was really cool. I liked Spiderman's conflict with him and the resolution of that plot. It was also intresting to see how Peter Parker became a bad person in his everyday life due to needing to save people as Spiderman. Also, Gwen Stacy is.... different. I haven't read original Gwen Stacy but I have seen the Amazing Spiderman movie version of her and damn that's a difference. Green Goblin storyline is what a good superhero story should involve, something realting to the confrontation of the origin of the hero and an epic fight scene to boot. Green Goblin was awesome, the transformation, the fear, SHIELD's involvement was okay but everything else was spot on. Public Scrutiny was okay, more BS SHIELD stuff, and the fake spiderman was okay, but I felt it was more about resolving personal issues of the characters. Mary Jane's breaking up with Peter, Gwen having to deal with her distressed family and living at Peter's, its all very character focused. The best part was the Rhino showing up in the first part but stupid ass Ultimate Iron Man stopped him. [/spoilers] Clone Saga part 1 Mind you, this is my first venture into the mainstream Marvel universe and its Spiderman, so my opinons might be biased coming from Ultimate and being a comic newbie. This was an okay story so far but was a good origin story for the Scarlet Spider. Ben Reiliy is fucking whiny as shit. He sits around and mopes "Wahh wahh, I'm the clone, and all of my memories are fake wahh wahh" GO OUT AND MAKE YOUR OWN MEMORIES THEN, YOU WHINY BABY. I've seen Linkara's review of Power and Responsibility, and I don't hate Judas Traveller as much as everyone else does. I saw him as more of a catalyst of Ben Reiliy becoming the Scarlet Spider. The best part of the book came at the end, when Scarlet Spider was kicking Venom's ass. Hell yeah, even though I haven't been dis-proven that Ben Reiliy is whiny, he still kicks ass and takes names. Maximum Carnage Holy shit, this blew probably every Spiderman story arc I have read so far out of the water. Everything was near perfection. The escalation of conflict, the story, the themes, action, revelations, it all came together into one well done package. I read the preface at the beginning of this collection saying how the main author wanted to address the gray morals with consideration for repercutions or feelings in comics at the time and this nailed it perfectly. Spiderman's interaction with other characters showed the differing ideologies that people were willing to use in order to either save or hurt people. Peter's dad offering negative remarks about humanity really goes to why some people always look at the negatives and almost convinces Spiderman to kill Carnage (Although I found out in the Clone Saga that his parents were fake so that was pointless) The lingering question of what to do with Cletus Kasady is always looming over the story's head with everybody making good points about the decision of what to do. Venom was my favorite character in this book because he seemed to be the most rational, as he wanted to stop the killing of innocents by killing the Carnage symbiote and kasady. Plus, he kicked ass as usual. |
"That's just PERFECT. So before we die, we're going to get cancer."
--Kaine Parker, Scarlet Spider Volume 2, Issue 5. I will use this line one day. It might even be my senior quote. |

I was looking through old Boxes and I found my trade paperback of A Death in the Family, where the fans of DC decided Jason Todd needed to die. And, I think, Joker's finest hour. |

I would love to use this as my senior quote, but I've got so many other ones to choose from. For example: "Stupid f***ing hobbits." |

Edit: Meh.. I prefer the old costume. The shredded blue hoodie and red skintight outfit. This new one.. He looks like the old Spidey villian The Turantula. |

Might have to check out this X-Files crossover comic when it comes out next year. Who Doesn't like to see Mulder & Scully and Transformers in the same universe?

Kaine explicitly states, "I'm not Spider-Man." It's not a comic about Spider-Man. It's about Kaine. |

Ben Reilly is still dead. Kaine was cured of his cellular degeneration in the storyline "Spider-Island," and got a new costume. He tried to flee to Mexico, but a newfound moral compass kept him in Houston, who dubbed him "Scarlet Spider." |

He stole that suit from Pete, the guy is a criminal, a criminal I tell you. :lol |

The only Kaine story I have read (besides Spider-Island) is Minimum Carnage, I didn't like him much in there, but then again I didn't like the book much tbh. |

The current Venom series is simply awesome though, at least the first issues, I'm kinda behind on it. Flash and the Venom are simply a perfect combination, a Spider-Man fanboy with a broken life and the Symbiote are quite a dangerous recipe. Hawkeye is great too, it treats Clint and Kate differently from the norm, but the writing and stories are so incredibly good that I'm willing to let it slide. One of my favorite books in years. And I think that's pretty much all the marvel that I'm reading right now, I'm way behind on Superior Spidey. |

Good old Coin Locker Babies.

It does have some pretty sucky moments for him. |
I havent read superior 17 and 18 yet but I kinda get the feeling the whole Ock Spidey thing is just gonna amount to peter coming back and having his old status quo by being seen as a thread in the eyes of the public.

Man, seeing all this Spidey info reminds me that Toxin's original host, Pat, was killed like a bitch just so that Eddie Brock could get another Symbiote. :\

It's annoying because despite Pat's short comic life, he was a fun character and I enjoyed his and Toxin's dynamic. So while Toxin is back, it's just Eddie farting around acting emo and brooding as him... And I don't know why. I guess they just didn't know what to do with Anti-Venom... |

But man, I'm tired of that... Quote:

Yeah wouldnt it be great if spidey would be allowed to...I dont know...evolve as a character? First the whole OMD fiasco and now they are desperately trying to force him back into his 90s status quo.
|
Blasphemy, the readers don't want that! They want to see a 30 year old, that is hated by everyone and blames himself for everything. Growing up? Developing? What's that?
I love Spidey, is seriously do, but if there's one character that is constantly strangled by the status quo it's him. |
The only thing I give Marvel is that they try to make it a somewhat natural progression...unlike certain other comic companys who just press the reset button if they feel like it.
|
Well... it's been a long time coming. After almost a year of complaints, cries, fusses, and hurt, I've decided to confront it.
I've decided to meet the monster who killed an amazing man and dared to call himself superior; I've decided to meet the man who destroyed my childhood; I've decided to read The Superior Spider-Man... and judge it fairly. ... But first, I read the New 52 Shazam! I liked it. Billy Batson is a dastard, but he's still likable. The story was really interesting, and I like Black Adam's new origin. But Superior Spider-Man... I'm sorry, Peter. I laughed at Ock's hilarity. And then he killed a person. ... NO! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! Spider-Man is not a killer! I don't care whether it's Ock behind the wheel or Peter or even Tinky Friggin' Winky, SPIDER-MAN DOES NOT KILL! Especially with the experiences that he's had. You felt those experiences, Ock. How... how... This is Spider-Man now. This is the Spider-Man who we'll have to read about. ... The stories were decent. They're definitely strong. But this is the guy we're supposed to believe is Spider-Man? |
I started reading the big three Justice League titles.
Justice League was okay. It had awesome artwork, and all of the characters had some awesome moments, but as a story, it fell just a little too flat. I was not expecting to like Justice League Dark as much I ended up liking it. It had a nice, engaging story, great artwork, and some fun character moments. From what I've read of Justice League International so far, I like it. Booster Gold is a lot less of a joke character than I was lead to believe, and Rocket Red is awesome. |
I finally started to read Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas (never got too far in the OVAs since they are incomplete).
I love it, the mythology of the SS franchise has always been fascinating and here it's used in what seems like a more focused storyline than the original saga (nothing against Kurumada's work, but the Galaxian Wars always felt out of synch with the rest of the story), the art is simply beautiful with incredibly striking scenes, like the kiss between Pandora and Alone, or the first time Tenma burns his cosmo. The characters are very well written, and so far very likeable, plus no words can describe the feeling of seeing Shion and Dohko again. A very promising chapter in the franchise. And probably the best entry point for anybody interested in the world of Saint Seiya. |
I got three.
Coin Locker Babies Behind the Pink Curtain The Flowers of Evil |
started house of Hades few days ago.
|
Lost Canvas: just finished 34, the Albafica, Underworld and Asmita arcs.
Just perfect, Albafica easily became one of my favorite gold saints, Tenma is an excellent lead, and learning the origin of Shaka's rosary is an excellent way to tie into the original show. |
Justice League International deserved to last longer.
Oh, and Spider-Man Noir is awesome. |
