I am loving Kyoryuger! Not the first sentai I watched but it is my favorite. Finally a Red that I can really enjoy. Actually the whole cast I'm enjoying. I am so happy to enter this season as my first currently watched season. I could just go on and on about it but I'll save some for later :)

I'm rapidly cooling on the show. The monster designs have not even slightly grown on me, the characters have pretty much devolved into one-notes already (or background features in Ian and Souji's cases), and the overzealous kid appeal is leaving me flat. I kind of liked the idea of the batteries and how they work, but the effects are just so... stupid. A gun that shoots lust? A power that turns you into a balloon? The fart one? I know you're trying to course correct from Go-Buster, Toei, but this is ridiculous.
I'm having a lot of trouble with the storyline, too. The show's pacing is, like Go-Buster's, pretty abysmal. The difference is only that Go-Buster's plot barely moved at all, but Kyoryuger's rushes by so fast that it's hard to keep up. And all of this is really doing a disservice to the characters, none of whom are given time to breathe. Daigo, in particular, is also really starting to annoy me. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but someone over at HJU summed up my frustrations with him perfectly: Daigo's just too perfect. We've had Sentai characters who need to spend entire episodes training to overcome a powerful enemy - last week Daigo managed to totally see through and defeat Utsusemmimaru's ultimate attack in one go. I really hate pulling out the Mary Sue label, but Daigo is pretty much a prime example and it really frustrates me. I don't plan to stop watching the show anytime soon (it's not Gosieger-level bad, after all), but I'm already starting to put off watching new episodes and the show's going to really need to change up what it's currently doing if it wants to win me back (and I'm not sure it does). |
I don't know why you think its going too fast, they have set up a lot in the first episode as well as some other episodes. I know Gold Ranger is coming sooner then most other rangers but he has also been around like the other rangers from the past.
I think soon, Daigo will run into some trouble and we will see that reflect on his character and attitude. I like him and he reminds me of the superheroes I love. |
Has my favorite costume designs as a whole for the Sentai themselves. Villains are meh. Kyoryu Cyan made me want to skip certain episodes. The whistling song gets old in the first episode. The character interaction is really nice though, and the show has a good sense of humor.

I loved the opening episodes, but as the show has descended further and further into what feels like a parody series, with more immature gags than drama or action, I'm really starting to hate it. There is a big difference between comedy and picking your nose and eating it, even with a show aimed at children.
There are some stunning action scenes, some great costume designs and some awesome special moves so I just hope the Power Rangers adaptation isn't so goofy and moronic. |
Trying to think of the right way to word this...
Has the show gotten a bit less...silly yet? Like has it had any genuine drama or dark episodes or anything a bit more mature? Or is it still really silly, everyone singing and dancing and all that crap that put me off from the first few episodes? |

However, that's a literal statement. The rest of an episode is still all dancing, King's neverending optimism, and silly monsters. But that 1 and a half minutes worth of back story for Ian is generally played straight and seriously. |
I'm so glad I jumped ship months ago, this series really wasn't and clearly still isn't for me.

Yes, there's silliness. But don't try and paint the whole series like that. It has tender and honest moments. (And Candillera in a black thong, so) And I just figured out Nobuharu is the same age as I am. ... I really am the Nossan :lol |
Ramirez and Ian were the only aspects of the series I liked because they were the only times the show took itself seriously.
Even then Ramirez had a corset morph and Ian once did the roll call with a...sore tooth. |

And that's twice I defended this show with logic, and good arguement, and not frothing at the mouth. I'm making such progress! |

Ramirez's being dead had no gravitas whatsoever, and Utchy raging towards Dogold wasn't much. Torin going after Chaos was just a fight scene (Which this show has an abundance of), and Utchy's backstory consists of "Flashback to Daigo's ancestor dying. AND SCENE!" I'll give you Souji and his father. I'm really not trying to paint the whole series like that. The show is intentionally doing that. It's reveling in not taking itself seriously, in that characters don't have to be dramatic or serious. And that's the problem. It's not that the show doesn't have it's serious or tender moments. It's that it doesn't want them so they can have more gags. |

Maybe I'll jump into sentai with the next season... |
This show thus far is somewhat of a pedophile.
It draws you in with the lustful attempts of Candy, and Sweets. You do finally come into the warranted allure of these entices. However, as all shady white-van owning Pedophiles, on the inside of the van is well... a Pedophile, and as such... No one likes a Pedophile... To be fair, this is a bit of an exaggeration. However, I do entirely agree with the opinion of being let down by this show, as it draws me in with it's bright colors, and good mood. But, just like a free bag of candy being received by your friendly neighborhood child molester. The show has been a bit deceptive, and just like the judge that comes after. It is found "Guilty". It is guilty for setting up story-lines only to forget about them, or resolve them with the swiftness in the blink of an eye. Which, honestly is the biggest disappointment I am having in this show, as it attempts to draw in "The child in me" to it's white van. But luckily for me, the adult in me wont stand for this. But... the thing is... this candy? IS really sweet... And... I like it... Which is possibly why I went from "DoctorMaki" To "KyoryuBlue"... Dangit. Alright, so i'm going to put my -true- feelings of this show, without the overtones of cynicism that comes from being a Man-child. Here is the deal. Kyoryuger. It is a fun show. It is meant to have fun with, and not to be taken seriously, or as such "SRZBZ" It is hard to grasp this concept when every bit of media these days has a large overtone of "VHWAT A TWEEST." At the same time however, it is much easier to sit back and relax whilst watching Kyoryuger. As such, it is an overly fun show. Daigo? Is he a Gary Stu? Sure. Who cares in the name of fun! Amy? Is she a priss that has a lazy personality? Sure. She has all the heart in the world. Nobou? He just reminds me of myself... Odd... Ian? Is a "badass" with a heart of gold. Boy? ... Ok I admit. I don't like him. Emo bitch... >_> Even Ramirez. All the Kyoryugers just have a large giant ball of heart, as if Ma-Ti from Captain Planet just let his ring on overdrive, and let it vomit itself all over this show... Which... is honestly why it can get away with anything. Beast Battery that makes farts? Sure. Why not? It's a show for kids, with all the heart in the world. It can do that. In closing, I have been harsh on this show (As every other show I have ever watched, as the Hate Mongering Fiend that I am...) watching this show? Honestly does no harm. If anything, even though the episodes are short, as well as the plots being absolutely pointless. It charms the hell out of me, takes me into its van... but oddly enough? On the inside of it isn't a Pedophile what so ever. If anything, it just takes you out on magic adventures of a group of -almost- teenagers with attitude and heart... to save the world... from evil-doers... as powered by an aci-- We are done here... Well, I finally got around to watching the first episode. Pretty fun, and definitely some great suit designs. The baddies look good (the two happy ones are very strange), and the tone is very high energy. I'll give it a few more episodes I think.
A question though. So we don't get a Yellow Ranger because Yellow is associated with females and the creative team wanted a very masculine team. Fair enough. So we get Cyan and apparently soon Violet? Cyan and Violet are manly colors now? What the heck? A Kyoryu Yellow would look so awesome, it's a shame that we haven't gotten one yet. |

There's been more male Yellow Rangers than Violet, though! :D
I suppose Kyoryu Gold counts, sorta, but his shoulder thingy is different than the normal Kyoryugers, and the Gold is not as bright as the Yellow would be. He still looks pretty neat. All of them do, which alone is a nice plus to the series. But it's still just plain weird not to have a Yellow Ranger in any capacity. |
I must grudgingly admit the show isn't as awesome as I had hoped, but it's still great fun. I thought the last two episodes in particular were really good, and hope we see more of the kind. Unfortunately it seems the show intends to go back to gags in the next episode. :lol
Well it's still fun to follow. |
I think I'm done with the show. Like I said in this week's episode discussion, there are just too many things that either annoy or bore me and too few things that I find entertaining. I may check it out again from time to time, but for now I'm probably done watching it weekly.

I honestly don't know why I'm following, considering this show really doesn't do anything for me.
Outside of Ian's story, the show takes nothing seriously. It's not painful to watch, it's just boring. |

Anyway, I'm actually having flash backs to Sun Vulcan, but where Sun Vulcan was one extreme, Kyoryuger is sitting on the other, supplanting plot and story for more fight scenes. |
Quote:
And undermining those fight scenes by replacing all drama and tension with juvenile humour. |

It reminds me a lot of Go-onger, actually. I may want to start comparing the two. |

I went back to see what I said earlier in the thread and I've definitely become less enthused since then. The show still has some great ideas, but I come out of most episodes not feeling particularly strong one way or the other. And for me that's worse than outright disliking something.
I'm really hoping these rumours about Deboss coming back pan into something better. Even killing off a general or two might actually work for greater effect. Preferably Candililla and/or Luckyuro. In fact, kill off Lucky and have Candi go on a blind rage which goes completely against her character. |
At this point if they revive Deboss at the midpoint of the series it'll feel like a repeat of Go-Busters plot. Will they destroy Deboss within a couple episodes and one of his generals become the big bad? Chaos? Dogold?
If they wind up going that way I'll be disappointed. When Go-Buster did it, it felt original and inspired to make Enter the big bad villain at the center. It won't feel that way this time. |

I just hope we can get Violet and Silver's introduction out of the way quickly so we can actually go somewhere with the series...

The show is perfect. It really is. It has heart, and humor, and isn't Go-Busters! What do you people want x . x |

Then again I've really enjoyed Go-Busters so far, so I guess I'm not the right viewer for this. |
