Well, even then I think Kim would probably have her beat. She had the extra long season 1 to help her numbers, plus all of season 2 and most of season 3. Cassie had half of Turbo and In Space... even if you add Lost Galaxy, Kim'd still have her beat.

Nostalgia and cool to like are the only reasons characters move on until the bullshit meter is filled, and then for one round - maybe two at a push people vote on the merits of the characters.

Then it goes back to nostalgia and cool to like.

Well, to be honest, of all the Rangers we've had, Syd is probably circling bottom 10 in my book.
I just didn't like her, which is why I voted for Kim...

And I will counter that the only reason Syd had an early lead is anti-MMPR bias. Anti-nostalgia, if you will.

And for having actual training. Super human powers. An actual character.

You could say all of this was paper thin, and I'd agree, but Kim was nothingness just like the whole MMPR cast.

Super human powers? How about having a heart, love of her fellow man, and honest to goodness compassion? Don't those count for anything?

An actual character? Save that argument for some who actually had one, not Syd. Even if this was a "best character" poll, which it is not, Syd still loses that.

Police training, which encompassed future tech, weapons, shooting, hand to hand, interrogation and all other aspects that go into being a cop. She didn't just have to blow the monsters up, she had to use her training to solve the issue.

Compassion is great but it doesn't stand a chance if Syd absorbs a diamond or something and punches Kim straight in the chops.

And sure Syd was a paper thin character but that is more than Kim can say. And characterisation and personality are as key to the ultimate Ranger as the biggest gun.

That's actually an unfair point, because her show had more episodes. It has nothing to do with her character.

And doesn't change the fact she was an almost vapid valleygirl who spent more time fawning over Tommy, or whining because Tommy lost his powers, then actually fighting monsters.

She was also a vampire back in the nineties. Forget the movie name though. The only other role I know her for is that Disney movie Suzie Q.

Syd was a poor excuse for a police officer, frankly. But as SPD was only mildly about actual police work, I'll let that pass. Anyway, like all the MMPR Rangers, Kim also demonstrated critical thinking problem solving and leadership (Wild West Rangers springs readily to mind). She also is a substantially better team player and teammate.. And again, lots more experience than a rookie cop who most of the time seemed disinterested in police work.

Anyway, Kim's ninja powers give her the ability to travel through earth, make multiples of herself, turn invisible, and other "magic" abilities. Syd can try to go Crusher Creel on her, but has to actually hit her. Why do super powers only "count" for post Zordon era teams?. Why is Super Dino Mode a show stopper and Lights of Orion not?

Also, I love how you dismiss Kim's compassion for others and put over She's powers, then turn around and say personality is just as important as weapons. Oookay...

In the context it matters, because by the third season she was considered one of the "veteran" Rangers by Zedd and Rita. So even if you correct for the timing, Kim was seen as a threat due to her longevity.

The vapid valley girl bit is gone before the first season ends. Syd remains obnoxious all the way thru her tenure.

I don't deny any of this really, I don't even particularly like Syd but it's a fact that she has had the training whether she chooses to flaunt it or not. Kim has had none of that training at all so if Syd went all out, she'd come out on top.

Well if you wanna include Syd's morphed powers then the limits are seemingly endless with the SPD Rangers pulling new attacks out of their ass every other episode.

Because if Syd is a paper thin character than idk what Kim is...what is thinner than paper? Kate Moss?

Seen every episode, Syd is bottom of the barrel on an otherwise superb show.

I guess I was thinking more in years than episodes. The MMPR first run turned out a lot of episodes. I mean, when it started airing it was 4 or 5 days a week. Although we don't really know what happened with the space Rangers. They all went back to Earth and showed up in Lost Galaxy plus Andros is active years later so it's feasible they kept the team together for a while.

Agreed, let's see who's next!
