If you live in the U.S., you should be able to add GaoGaiGar to your Netflix queue, as it's licensed by Media Blasters under the AnimeWorks label. Out of the 49 episodes, only the first 25 have an English dub.

I wanted to make this thread until I found this thread. So I hope it's okay to bump it. I'm a huge fan of classic super mecha. I love Mazinger, Getter Robo, Gaiking, Gigantor, Brave Raideen, Gunbuster, Go Lion and many other classics. I even love old school SRW mecha over Gundam. I like Gundam, but Mazinger is much more fun to watch in my opinion.

I have Mazinger Season 1 & 2 on DVD, all four volumes of Getter Robo Armageddon on DVD, Shin Mazinger on DVD and Mazinkaizer SKL on Blu-Ray. I also have the Gaiking movie collection on DVD from Shout Out!.

I also like modern mecha like Gurren Lagann and GaoGaiGar. I still kick myself for not getting the GaoGaiGar DVD's. I hope someone will get the rights to them soon. My first mecha anime ever was The New Adventures of Gigantor on the Sci-Fi channel back in the mid-late 90's. I have found memories of it back in 1995 or 1996.

It's actually not from a anime this is from one of the 3 brave series spin-off games "BRAVE SAGA 2"

The 2 brave saga games were basiclly crossover games for the 8 brave series and also introduced the cast for the canceled 9th brave series "BRAVE SAINT BAAN GAAN"

Anyone seen or read Giant Robo before? I remember as a kid in the 90's, the Sci-Fi channel where hyping up the Giant Robo OVA like crazy. The manga was adapted into a Toku TV show in the 60's and most people may know Giant Robo as "Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot" in the west.

You know I kinda miss these innocent Super robot shows I watched as a kid like Voltes, Combattler and Daimos and even Gosaurer . Even though me and my dad are still big Super robot fans, I'm having a hard time watching the newer ones with him because of the amounts of fanservice that they've been adding to these shows lately.

God I just saw clips of Dai Guard and it was awesome.. might consider watching it someday

Old anime wasn't as free of it as we like to think. :lol
But yeah, more heroic, simple and innocent super robot shows would be welcome.

Yes. Speaking of Mazinger, the show is on DVD if people want to check it out. I do prefer the manga over the TV show, but the TV show is still good. Speaking of MazinKaiser, I wish the OVA series was put on DVD. I have SKL on Blu-Ray, but the original DVD's from ADV Films are pretty pricey now.

The Super Robot series I have seen from start to finish all fall into the Hot-Blooded Burning Justice over the top category...
My first OVA series was Getter Robo Armageddon. Then Gaogaigar came out on DVD, and I loved it from the opening of the first episode. Final of FINAL and Tranformers the Movie are my go tos on really bad days. The fact that we don't get any adaptation of Project Z in manga or light novel saddens me.
There is only one place to go from here - to pierce the heavens with Gurren Lagann.

What is the general consensus on Getter Robo Armageddon? I enjoyed it, but have not revisited it in years.

I hope for it to be a continuation of Shin Mazinger. It's a shame that Shin Mazinger didn't get dub or simulcast when it was airing. The casual western anime fandom miss out on a great show. I don't want a remake of the first TV series since we already had Shin Mazinger which is already a reboot of the classic Mazinger.
