It wasn't so much the characters were bad, as they were poorly used. Daigo was basically Dairanger's main character, yet he was Green. Red was barely in the show at all, and about his only characterisation was 'look how badass I am!'. And remember his whole plot with his Dad and how it's only mentioned once, in the episode it is included in? And then at the end they throw out like a thousand twists that confuse this for no purpose?

And don't get me started on yellow, who had maybe what, two episodes focused on him in the entire show? And remember how pink was like a direct descendent or something, so it suggested she was like super important? Yeah after that all she did was get her tits squeezed by a small child for the whole show.

And remember how Souji and his morphed form didn't match up at all, like they were two totally different characters? Brilliant.

You'll probably love it, the rest of the fandom does for some reason.

Maybe you wont like Dairanger then? As I thought Kiva was rubbish, and although I enjoyed Den-O in parts, I'm not quite seeing the hype (but I'm like a quarter of the way through, so times can change, like it did with OOO).

I'm someone who likes to see for herself and doesn't care what the rest of the fandom thinks. So it's a 50% chance I'll like it and a 50% chance I won't like it.

Heh, I posted in this thread back 2011 and still stick by what I said then. Not a fan of Boukenger at all.

However, since then I have also watched Sun Vulcan. Yeesh.

An honourable mention to Kyoryuger, which is the first sentai I went from loving to outright dropping in less than fifteen episodes. I know I picked Dairanger, but now I think about it, at least I could stomach the entire series.

From what I saw :

Before 2000: JetMan, Sun Vulcan, Liveman, Bioman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Maskman, and some Battle Fever J and Gorenger here and there (next will be Kakuranger, it's almost fully subbed).

I would say Sun Vulcan is the black sheep, because of its very *repetitive* nature even by SS tropes. It gots some charm through its vintage aspect, but if I were to dress a list of the episodes critical to the plot, I think I couldn't find more than 8 or 9 of them : the first one, the mid-season retooling one, and the 6 last ones, from the arrival of Inazuma Ginga.

Post 2000: Gokaiger, Gaoranger, Gekiranger, Gobusters, Magiranger Shinkenger, Dekaranger and Boukenger (haven't start Kyoruger yet mostly because of Zyuranger dinobullsh*t overdose, afraid of starting Gosei because of the general bashing).

At least this thread taught me I can watch the whole of Sun Vulcan in ten episodes.

Let's say 8~11:

• 1: global exposition,

• 23: the retooling one,

• 29: optional , additional ranger - well, sort of,

• 36-37: optional, the two-parter about espers with references to the previous show Denzyman,

• 45-50: Inazuma Ginga entry and the begining of the end.

Once again, it has its good points, it's just lacking in some areas comparatively to other sentai series.

Gokaiger.
Sun Vulcan works well as a sleep aid and I am most definitely not a fan, but Gokaiger is just so...Disappointing. It had so much opportunity to do something great, but instead took the easy route and it suffered for it.

I hate the Gokaiger fans more than the show, the fans who are like 'wanna get into super sentai? GOKAIGER GOKAIGER GOKAIGER' and you watch like fifty episodes of fan wanking a franchise you have no emotional investment in. And from the sounds of things Gokaiger wasn't even that great for fans of the franchise.

GoGo-V sounds like it'd be boring seeing it's tribute in Gokaiger.

"Oh hey! Your GoPink! What, saving lives saves the future? Cool! Thanks for the keys now let's use them in our Giant Pirate robot to deploy firehoses so we can put out a fire."

And GoGo-V is not boring.

My only real issue is the justification of why the show did certain things. "The mecha is a piece of shit because it's random assortment of vehicles are a homage to past series!" "The series took a dive in plot because guest stars wanted to return even though the writers/directors/producers/whoever could've just said no." "The characters are bland and one dimensional because they have kinda-sorta tragic backstories and one flashback in a filler episode totally gives a character depth!"

I tried watching Gokaiger. All the characters were annoying and the red ranger was kinda ugly. I'm not shallow by any stretch, but he was just a not good looking guy who couldn't act.

After watching 17 seasons of Power Rangers, Gokaiger was my first sentai and I loved it. It was my partner's and brother's first too and they both loved it too, its also the only sentai/power ranger series my brither can sit through and he rewatches it with us all time. Therefore, from my experience I would recommend Gokaiger for people wanting to get into Sentai.
I know you havent seen the show becayse the fan wanking is very minimal outside of the concept of the Gokai changes and the cameos are always more about the morals of the show or continuing the story then emotional attatchment to the viewers. Hell, the target viewers wouldnt have any attachment to them either cosidering at very best theyd probably have only seen Goonger-Goseiger.

For me, I'd probably say Zyuranger. Bandora was fantastic, but the show just wasn't for me, even though its my partner's favourite.

Would this be a bad time to mention that, aside from the power-spam Mech battles, I enjoyed Gokaiger? Especially once Gai came along.

I haven't seen many,but of the ones I have watched,I'd have to say Go-busters.The mecha I never liked to begin with,but it did grow on me and I like them a lot now.The stories and the characters on the other hand...I dunno,I just found it incredibly dull.Well,except for two of them,and you all should know which two.

If there's one thing that I have to give to Decade, it's that it went through entirely with it's idea.
They executed it terribly, had too many plot threads to resolve, and utterly failed, but they didn't chicken out and stay on the safe side for most of the series.

I think the majority did. It had a very likeable and memorable team, fun and quirky villains (plus a great nemesis) and the concept led to exciting and varied transformed battles and also worked well with not having the anniversary concept bog the plot down. I also love the mecha design and it remains my favourite sentai/power rangers series and toyline combined ever.

So you'd rather only give extreme examples instead of rationally deducing that maybe he just wants it done well?

Crap, what if a dehydrated person showed up at your door? I can't help but think most people with that mindset would try to drown him, then when he protests, you flippantly say "well would you rather stay thirsty?"

I've never had a sentai that I outright hated, at least yet (hopefully never) but if I had to choose, it'd be Dekaranger. That's the only one so far where I didn't get so invested in the characters that I was upset when it ended.

Although that could be because being a ranger was their job and they didn't outright stop saving people.

Gobusters, or at least the first 25 eps because that's how long I lasted. Goseigers come in second.

Well, to Marvelous' credit, he had more than the rest of the Gokaigers. Don's was "I pretended to be a hero, because I want to be a hero like you guys"

Except the Rider War, unless you count the tournament in All Riders.

Ironically enough, Don is actually one of two characters (The other being Gai) who actually do have character arcs.
That moment of pretending to be a hero provides him with greater depth than Ahim, Joe, and Luka combined.

He did, and that's where Don's character grew. He went from the smart nerd into an actual character. For everyone else (Outside Gai), every moment of characterization is immediately reverted back to status quo the next episode, but while Don's confidence didn't last long, his resolution did.

That's because everyone (Even Don and Gai) are cliched copy pasted characters (Another trait that gets defended for no reason), so there isn't much to remember. Their unique traits don't defy their cliches in the slightest. Ahim is a formal and preppy Princess who doesn't take anyone's crap? Luka is a tomboy with a broken past that has a heart of gold? So memorable.

Don is a generic character too, but his character arc did solidly define who he was and let him grow.

But Luka also loves treasure. :p

It's ok, me too. I used to love that character, until you pointed that out to me. Not even her design (which I really liked) does anything for me anymore.

I don't know how to react to that. I don't know if I should be happy because I made you see why I disliked them or if I should feel terrible for ruining a character for you :lol

But in all honesty, I can't find a bad Sentai. Obviously I love Goseiger, and I'm also quite fond of Gingaman, which I do belive isn't that popular. But I would gladly challenge myself to watch a "bad" Sentai just to see if it is in my book.

Give Sun Vulcan a shot. It got Den-O and I to agree over how soul crushingly dull it is :lol

I will say that I haven't seen enough Timeranger to give a full opinion on it but from the first episode I can say the fight scene gave me a killer headache.
