The only reasonable explanation I could gather for that (since there are no actually recordings of that) is that while Rider was very popular at the time toei didnt have the finances to sustain three major shows through the 90s. Sentai and Metal Heroes were both annual franchises at that point while Rider was known for having giant breaks between each series (Super-1 and Black being six years apart) so it would seem logical to put Rider on hold because the audience would be used to seeing that with Rider.
Kamen Rider only became an annual Franchise after Kuuga and at that time there were no new Metal Hero shows produced so Toei would be able to finance Sentai and Rider on a year to year basis. |

I do know that the early 80s hiatus was due to Super-1's ratings tanking after it moved time slots. I forget why there was no third series after Black RX. |
Given that Sentai was the one that got a show specifically for older audiences, I think there's a clear winner.

Akibaranger proves that there's a large enough adult fanbase for Sentai. I don't see what Go-Busters has to do with this. |
Oh you're talking about Akibaranger! I thought you meant Gokaiger, sorry.
Decade in Kamen Rider banked on the nostalgia factor but wasn't done that well. And Kamen Rider is usually sufficiently mature to handle the material Akibaranger puts out, but Super Sentai is not. |

True, but I'm not talking about the content, simply the fact that there's a Sentai targeted to adults, while Rider shows are ultimately targeted to kids. |

Kamen Rider does have some very mature material too though. Kamen Rider Shin is clearly not for kids for example. But you're right that TV-wise even its darkest shows accommodate kids. |
How would they even pull off an Akibaranger like Rider show?

Not that hard actually, make the titular rider a loser, make a rider war... centering on trvia shows, Kamen Biker, and so on. |

Still I would say Rider has a larger older Fanbase even if its just a little more. Rider always tried to market itself to adults in someway since Shin Kamen Rider wereas Sentai only really started doing that in recent years. |

I would just be glad if we could get belt extensions so I can use my Mobuckle properly :lol

The last time I did this was like four years ago on my double driver :lol
I feel a lil spoiled by the rider belt extensions xD |

My thoughts exactly xD
We finally got a black one with the White Wizard Driver but every main rider belt is grey xD It gets even more obvious now that Gaims belt is yellow. |
which series do you think caters more to a older audience. i think kamen rider. i mean we actually got a game on ps3 it appeared in a crossover with ultraman and gundam and way more appealing v cinemas and the sic line. oh and i am not trying to prove rider is better than sentai
|
Rider traditionally skews older, although it's hard not to argue that its focus has moved towards a younger audience in recent years.

well with gaim
with kamen rider gaim it sounds like they are trying. the director even said adults will love griton and should keep an eye out for him.

I wouldn't say rider has moved it's focus to younger audiences, but rather has become more "all ages." It's not dumb or pandering, but it's not exclusively aimed at mature audiences. |
what do you mean become
kamen rider has always been for all ages

that was just one movie. in general, kamen rider is for all ages

yeah but
japan is less strict. kamen rider is not a mature franchise, it is for all ages.

i said all ages
all ages does not mean childish. kamen rider is meant to appeal to kids as well, but it also caters to an older audience. all ages is what i think they have in mind. one piece is enjoyed by all ages too you know.
