It also helps that Toei requires Funimation to let those auditioning for the roles see and hear the characters in Japanese before they record their voices as Toei wants them to be as accurate as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if the same were to happen to the new Sailor Moon anime (assuming Funi will license it, which is most likely). |
Just listened to the cast on YouTube. I LOVED the actress they picked for Robin, she totally nailed the 'I want to live' scene. Both Zoro and Franky are pretty great as well, although I'm not really impressed with the rest of the voices.

I actually haven't heard any of the english dub past Louge town. I really should buy the third dvd volume sometime soon.
As for the question someone asked about whether or not they should read/watch what happens after Marineford. I say yes, it shows how Luffy and Ace met, introduces their other friend and shows how terrible the rich truly can be. I personally read that part and I'll just say it was that good that I didn't leave the coffee shop I was in till I had finished reading the whole volume. |
In my opinion, if it's in the manga, you just shouldn't skip it.
While at the time it seemed like it went on for far too long, the flashback was still worth it. And now you can read it all in one go and it should go much faster. Seeing Luffy and Ace as children was fun and I'm positive Sabo's going to show up in the future. Without reading/watching this arc, you won't have any idea who he is and wouldn't care about him... but you really should. |
I have watched the majority of it, all the way up to Luffy's spiralling depression. It's just I haven't watched One Piece properly for like three years, so although I can remember most of it, I've just forgotten the finer details and I don't really have the time anymore to watch over say fifty episodes, only to find I basically remember everything in those bar like one episode. Which is why I'm skipping as far ahead as I can, without jumping to an episode I don't remember at all.
So with that in mind I'm picking up One Piece again with 505. And I am full of sads. But also happies. Water 7 was just such a fantastic arc, I've found pretty much everything following it flat feeling in comparison. Stuff with the Supernovas was pretty awesome and Marineford's War had everything in place to be truly epic, and to go beyond the awesome of Water 7 but then it was slow as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Thankfully this post war stuff looks a lot more interesting. |
My biggest problem with the anime version of the Water 7 arc is it dragged on for an unnecessary amount of time. Having 5 clip shows in a row and then interrupted with some stupid Boss Luffy crap in the middle of a battle is just utterly annoying. Add on top that the recaps seemed to have gotten longer just to slow things down (there is no reason the train ride to Enies Lobby should have taken 9 episodes), and you have one of the longest anime arcs for no damn reason.
Sure, the story itself is by far the longest story arc in the entire series, but the entire thing runs just short of 100 episodes. |

Yeah, I'm familiar with that site, but I want to at least watch every episode filler or not at least once. The only thing I skip are clip shows. Plus, there are some filler that was not bad. I actually enjoyed the filler in Alabasta because it made their trek through the desert feel more natural than just being where they needed to be in five panels. And I actually thought the Navaronne Base arc was pretty enjoyable and felt like it could have been written by Oda (not to mention it was better than the Foxy stuff). On the other hand, a lot of the filler is down right awful.

The only tjing i remember from the last dub episode is how hilarious the frog thing was swimming.

One Piece 507 (skipped 506 because that is filler).
I actually thought this episode was kinda boring, until the last five or so minutes when we finally got to see the Strawhats again. Or at least Ussop...a really, really obese Ussop. Obviously I want him to be reunited with Luffy, but I also wanna see more of this giant mouth island full of Godzilla villains. |
yea the return sandbody does not really get good until the last 2 episode of thoes arc but it good to watch to see all the new world looks of the straw hats crew. on another note i finally finished one piece pirate warriors 1 and marineford arc is my fave arc in thengame shortten and arkenuies fight in it as well

Anyone know about Romance Dawn? Apparently it's been ported to DS and is getting released in the UK at the end of November, I wouldn't mind purchasing it if it's meant to be good.
Its also the only One Piece DS game I can find that doesn't seem like some kind of weird dodgy import or is ludicrously priced. |

I only bought a DS for Pokémon, but now I'm realising this one hundred pound piece of kit should probably get more use, but I can't really find many DS games other than Pokémon that interest me. |

Oh so I'm not going to be the only one here who owns the SHF Luffy for much longer? Sweeeet. While he's definitely not perfect, that is still one very fun figure to mess around with.
Anyone read the manga chapter that came out today? Things definitely just escalated for the Straw Hats a whoooole lot. This will be interesting to see unfold. |
No, I'm holding off on reading the Punk Hazard arc until the last volume with the arc comes out. I believe that is 70 which should be out in March given Viz's track record. Just before it hits, I'll pick up where I left off in 66.
BTW, Strong World was incredible. Easily the best One Piece movie to date. |

What was so bad about them?

Get her in hand and you might feel quite differently.
In general, they're all too soft. Literally. Their limbs can bend (and I don't mean at joints) from just trying to swap hands, in large part likely due to how thin they all are. And the joints are just generally too exposed in places to look good. So they're awkward to handle and there's kind of a quality issue. Luffy isn't horrible. I can't say much bad about him except for the aesthetics at the shoulders and mid-torso joints not being the best. Ace is top. He's probably the best in my opinion. He comes with an incredible amount of fire effect parts that you'd be remiss not to use them. He does suffer from the same awkward exposed joints as Luffy and I'm not fond of his face options (they hardly look like him to me). And yes, I understand that the joint issue can't be easily be avoided with figures with so much exposed skin and I personally don't actually have much of a problem with it in these two. But, from what I've gleaned from all over the place over the years, anime fans like clean looks. So they hate joint cuts, and One Piece fans in particular are just stupidly obsessed with statues. That's part of what killed the line early. What really didn't help was making Nami the third entry. She's just too damn skinny to work well as an action figure where they went for a faithful recreation. It causes massive bulges for her eblow and knee joints that are unsightly. She also can't stand worth a damn. But really it's those damn shoulders. If you don't have her arms pressed up against her body or her angle away in such a position that her shoulders are hidden, they just look horrible. Like her arms are floating away from her body. Many point to her as the reason it failed early, and I'd have to agree even though I got them all after the fact. She really just should not have been the third figure made if they were trying to get it going. It should have been Zoro or even Sanji. (Ace made sense as second given he came out around the time of the War of the Best.) But Nami? Absolutely not. And she was sub-par on top of that. Sanji's alright. He suffers from awkward shoulders because of the rigid suit he's wearing, but overall probably looks the best. And he comes with pretty much everything you could need... except for a cigarette hand, despite having hands molded as if he were smoking (which granted is easily fixed with a tiny piece of rolled up paper as I've done in my display). And oh yeah... his classic smiling look. A face he is shown as coming with all over the back of the box. Except he doesn't come with it. Bandai fucked up and didn't include the face with him. I ordered him not long after he came out apparently, because next thing I know HLJ's just sending me a "Bandai Part" without saying anything, and lo and behold it was his face. So they tried to fix it, but really it shouldn't have happened. But really the big issue is the preferences of the fans over in Japan. They just want damn statues and it's a shame. I don't hate three out of the four characters. The third one just might just have been too weak, both as a character to release so early and as a figure. I think they'd do so much better if given a second chance, especially with all of the improvements made to their anime figures with the likes of Sailor Moon. And started with a bigger hitter like Zoro. The market's just, unfortunately, not there in Japan. |

And yes Franky has an SOC release look... but I'm not sure why that would make you want all of the SHFs. I don't think I've even seen any pictures comparing them to see if they'd even be in scale. And Franky's in his New World appearance anyways so wouldn't fit in with the pre-time skip SHFs necessarily... But all of that said, yeah, I still really want it and would be all over it if I had that much cash to spend on a single figure. |
