I'm willing to give it a chance but so far I'm not impressed. The combined mech looks utterly ridiculous. It looks like the hips are up at his darn neck. And the suits of the Sentai themselves... I saw them and my first reaction was :eyebrow "What?"
They look like a cheap knock-off to go with that Thomas the Tank Engine mecha.
I'm glad I got Kyoryuger. Because I don't think I want this.

I do agree that the suits look a little plain, and maybe footsoldier-ish with the simple helmet design, and that the Zord (should I call it that? I'll call it that) seems like it's missing some details, like maybe a body piece or something. But it's train themed, and I really like all the train motifs they've got going on, so I've got to give it a shot. The weapons look pretty fun and their combined mode is funny.

Himitsu Sentai Gorenger from 1975 looked better than this. Is there a retro theme here we are maybe missing? That mecha is laughably bad.

So guys, who wants to catch me up on Kamen Rider? Those fruit ninjas are starting to look pretty cool right about now.

I'm gonna wait until we see the suits in action in the Kyoryuger Go-Buster movie and the mech once the series starts, but the biggest problem is that the suits and TokkyuOh look way too simplified for their own good.

I don't mind it when the next Sentai or Rider goes for a more streamlined, less busy look but this is simple to the point of making it look like it's a low-budget knock-off series...

Man that is one ugly robot. I really hope it works better in live action form than it does on paper. At least we've got the chance to get decent train battles/giant scenes with the care that's been going into the robot scenes lately.

The suit helmets are pretty great, they're doing a good with with integration of the motif and it looks like a lot of actual work went into them....which makes everything else so confusing. How did that meeting with PLEX and Bandai go? I'd be afraid to see what design rejected in favor of these were like. I really do want to like the suits because they give that great splash of color that we've been missing for quite some time, but when I take it all in, they look so naked. I'm not a fan at all of the design on the chest. That it's the only thing there isn't bad enough, but the black and white clash horribly with the primary suit colors.

I can see the suits growing on me in action, but a suit that isn't appealing from the design stage already has a lot of problems going on.

I'm going to go with... could look better live. It's often the case that people find reasons to hate the new show, right? So Tokkyuger has given us a little more to pick on than usual hehe, let's wait and see.

I could have sworn I've seen a KO train combiner over at KO Toys that merged the exact same way that these trains do. Am I crazy?

Actually like the helmet design. The chests are kinda bland but it will grow on all of us. That train megazord though, It just confuses me. The fact it has that thick of a body made up of the same Kyroyuger playskool colors. Just the fact the torso is made up of red blue and green makes my OCD act up.

Agreed. Right now it's 'wait and see'. But even Scott Hards (the president of HLJ) is 'dissapointed' in the new line.

The problem is that the toys aren't going to be "live" CG robots...Even if they look good on the show, these are still pretty much the designs we're going to be getting for the toys.

You're right yeah. They've shot themselves in the foot hoping "trains" is enough to sell these to kids. Frankly, all it's got left is the live stuff to help it along.

Someone said the DX stuff is always proportioned wrong. I'm hoping that's the case here...

I'm just making excuses now haha, trying so hard to like this. It's difficult but ... No buying from me, just watching, maybe. At least there's those fruity guys.

I wanted to be pumped, to be excited. If you know me at all then you know I go all in on DX robos from sentai I like. If its an enjoyable show with a good DX line I'll buy everything I can get my hands on. It pains me to say that this is the first time ever that im tempted not to get anything past the main robo. I'll get Tokkyu Oh but at this point thats for gallery/review purposes only.

Really the reactions for both series were generally positive overall (esp kyoryuger). While I admit I didn't care the Dino's they grew on me and it turned out to be a decent line.

This time opinions are mixed about the suits but everyone seems to agree the trains are a huge disappointment.

I have to be insane, i love tokky-ohs design. Theres a certain simplicity about it that just works for me,and i cant wait to see the final combination of the series (there better be 10+ trains crammed together by the end.)

ok, I'm going to say it...thank god we aren't the target audience. On the other hand, I totally see kids going nuts for this...Its moments like these I kind of wish there WAS a third party for toku and Sentai...In transformers land when you have a bad line it seems there is a third party/grown up line ready to step up and take the cash lol That being said...yay, something we can give our wallets a break on. I am sure this will be fantastic in japan and when Saban picks it up, sell like crazy to the kids here.
On the OTHER hand...look at Kamen Rider Gaim...what if this is just a simple crazy visual...and in the end gives us a FANTASTIC story. So yes, pass on the toys...but will give the show a chance.

The least they could've done is add more paint and detail to the top of the train so the combined mode doesn't look like 5 coloured tubes stuck together.
As for the suit designs, after staring at them for a while they're kind of growing on me. Was still hoping for something cooler looking though.

Agree with everyone's comments on the blandness of the suits and mecha.

I'm not feeling the suits. They need just a little tiny something extra to make them pop. They don't have to be as busy as Kyoruger or Goseiger, but just a little contrast would help. I thought Shinkenger nailed the clean and subtle look.

I'm torn on the mecha. Part of me likes it and part doesn't. Both sides of my braing are frowning at the other. If the green and blue mecha unfolded for the combination I'd be alot more into it. I guess I'll just wait and see what's revealed over the next few months.

Obviously it's not great for the show, but for once it's nice that I'm like 'meh' and everyone else isn't like 'greatest tokusatsu creation in the history of the universe!'. It feels so good to all be sharing a massive meh vibe.

Kyoryuzin was always beautiful. Pteragordon, Pleazion, Bragigas! ... But that monster is just.. Seriously, they know how the hell to do an amazing Train Mech. I give you whatever the called the Train Mech in GoGo V (Super Train Megazord in Lightspeed Rescue). This is just.. I think WTF sums it up pretty well. Bandai and Plex are capable of amazing things when they try. This was apparently an off year.

Because look at Go-Busters. The show was disappointing but you could look at the Mechs, Ace especially, and go Damn that's awesome. Given how bad these look, this show better be perfection on film or Sentai's in trouble.

The only thing right now I like are the Changer and the Sword/Gun. The Helmets are okay but I can see myself liking them the more I look at them. The Body suits are pretty dull and just come off as lazy. And the rest....the rest is some of the worst designs I have seen in Toku.

It's waaaaaaaay too early to say that. I doubt negative reception from the Western fan base is going to make that much of a dent in the franchise.

lmfao!! The suits and mecha suck ass. A 5 year old could've come up with that. There was no creative process whatsoever with the suits. I'm hoping they look good in action at least.

Wow, this is a whole mess of awful. The suits look incredibly bland and the rail track visors are terrible. I liked the looks of the mech in the first picture, but the full thing is also really bad - green and blue as both the legs and part of the chest just does not work.

Still, I'll give the show a chance. Bad designs don't automatically equate to bad writing.
