The minions look better than the Rangers, I'm routing for them lol. I am very indifferent right now, something needs to push me in the direction of loving it or hating it.

The idea of a bunch of Rangers protecting trains in the old west from Trainrobbing Monsters makes me sad, because that isn't what this show is. It's a bland pretty hipster cast, with even blander Ranger forms which just looks like completely uninteresting.

The suits look even worse in motion, especially doing the train thing with the arms.

The trains however look awesome as trains. Nice and detailed and shit. The Megazord still looks like pap, though. I can't believe that is even a design Bandai would make up when Supertrain exists in our memories. And thsoe suits are just awful. Way too basic, and what detail is there is over-detailed. The suits are entirely plain, safe the switch-track design that's all intricate. But not in any ornate way, just a cluttered, muddled way. Ditto the helemts. The track motif across the visor is too much when there's zero detail elsewhere on the helmet.

Looked at it subbed. Henchmen look interesting and could be good cosplay

I can tell right now that I am absolutely going to hate Tokkyu5. Pigtails, fluffy coat, cutesy way of standing... she's going to be the "girl who acts like a toddler to be cute" stereotype. I futzing hate that stereotype.

I'll give it a few episodes, but hopes are low. At least it doesn't seem like it's going to try to actively give me a headache like the current series.

After watching the trailer a few times, I'm still failing to see anything that doesn't scream "Super Sentai" straight to my ears.
5 young people with positive attitude changing into colorful super-heroes? Check!
Super vehicles combining into giant robot? Check!
Evil grunts? Check!
& since we know NADA about the story, isn't it a bit too early to raise the hate flag & go on a crusade against them??
I'll just wait for a few episodes until my final judgement.

I'm willing to give the show the chance to surprise me, but I'm not going to go in with high expectations for anything.

Just noticed something: is it me or are Green and Blue too bright? I compared TokkyuGreen to some of the recent Greens and he is a MUCH brighter shade. In fact, all the Tokkyuger seem to be brighter shades.

To my eyes, Blue is okay, but Green is definitely much brighter than is usual for Super Sentai. I'm not sure I've seen that shade of Green before in the series.

I think that is my biggest problem with this show - it's bland. It doesn't just feel like a parody in how cheap it all looks, it feels like a parody because it really feels like someone found a tropes list and attempted to tick every single box, but build absolutely nothing original onto it. This show is like someone filmed someone trying to talk about the entire sentai franchise, without focusing on a single series and that is just boring.

this is going to be a fun show, after watching the promos, i bet kids in japan are begging the parents to get their merch already when it comes out and i think people here are changing their minds about it and want the merch right now.

My comments are largely on the designs, as we have nothing much else to go on, but that never stopped people generating a MASSIVE hype train for Gaim, when all we had was a shot of his back.

There was no MASSIVE hype train for Gaim following that back picture, merely speculation.

The hype train came when we saw the suits, and people were excited merely to see them in action.

Though I ultimately agree. This feels very typical. Like how non-fans view Sentai, with no unique flare.

Nonetheless, I am speculating at the same point as them, just in the opposite direction and that is allowed.

Oh totally. And I agree. The blandness of the suits and the uninspired way the motif is worked in feels... lazy?

I don't even like Kyouryuger, just not my thing, but even I can appreciate the unique direction of the suits and helmets, and the effort put into them. The mouthplate-in-the-visor is unique, and the suits have detail, but not overwhelming detail outside the shoulder pad. Little things like the upper arms having a different texture, or an extra line on the boot top. Just an idea that the suits weren't a rough sketch brought to life like here.

I don't know, but seeing the costumes in action helps somewhat. The show suit for the Mech helps as well.

Overall I'm feeling better about the look of things now, that's not to say I like the weapons or the mech itself.

I still think the overall design is a bit...first draft-ish to me. Like that was their first concept and they never moved past it. And the way the extra train cars "combine" is just plain lazy. It looks and feels like a "we kind of have to have extra cars for toy purposes" and couldn't come up with a better way to integrate them in.

Moral of the story, seeing thing's in action, makes them look less...crummy...than initially presented.

The whole "use other team members powers" thing to me just sounds utterly redundant and pointless, I'll be interested to see if they can implement it...interestingly. Oddly the teaser gave very little away of the action, to only further "blandify" it.

I can't stand Kyoryuger either, but to give it is due, the suits are cool as hell and the actionscenes are near consistently fantastic.

Saw the trailer, Red looks like he just had a gallon of Kool-Aid :lol The grunts are cool. Im still not to sure on the suits though.

Stray thoughts:

Blue and Green look interesting. The girls look like typical sentai girls. I don't prefer a young, plucky Red, but I'm not totally turned off by this actor.

Boy, this cast looks young.

Their pre-henshin costumes are well designed. I usually like it best when the characters have colored coats -- makes it more believable that they'd wear the same colors every day.

Man, those mooks look badass. I wonder if the villains will be all black and white to counter the trainbow rangers. That could be cool.

I really love their pose down.

The train models are awesome.

I'm getting a brightly-colored high school anime feel from the series so far.

I'm willing to be won over.

They clearly put some thought into those grunt designs. Shame they didn't put that effort into the rangers.
