Actually, they do say "SPD Emergency." It's just hard to hear over the explosion.

That's not the same as the characters constantly chatting during the entire fight scene, which has been a problem ever since Samurai. They can't let a fight scene play out without a constant train of unfunny dialogue layered over it. |
Well that was somewhat better than I expected, probably since so much of it was action based/used the Gokaiger footage. Some spoilery bullet points:
-I was intrigued about getting an explanation for Jake's change in color when they brought it up as I never expected it to be addressed but then they promptly take it away :/ -Interested to see if they can incorporate the idea of using Legendary modes taking a toll on you or if it's just an excuse for why they don't always use those powers all the time. -Disappointed they didn't call the way to grow the monsters Sattilasers, would have been a cool throwback. -I know it was cheesy as hell but I liked the speech at the end, reminds me of something you'd hear near the end of a Sentai season. |
Here is a link if you do not live in the US to watch the 1st episode of Super Megaforce: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1b...p-1_shortfilms

LOL what are those quotes man?

just watched it on youtube. wont slag it off too bad, it was a passable adaptation. but the acting is still appalling, even the supporting humans were terrible. felt like somebody offscreen had a gun pointed at them. but hey, could be worse. the monster voiceovers were fine
|
I thought it was alright. I mean, it could of been worse..... Also Troy being the bland tofu as he always is at the end. Wish Jake was the leader.
|
I love how they don't address the pirate theme at all. You're SUPER MEGA! Ignore that ship, those guns, those swords and all that other crap....you're SUPER MEGA!!!
I'm sorry I just can't watch the show. I heard it was better than people expected so I gave it a shot, but it's just so lifeless and wooden. I suppose if I hadn't already seen gokaiger I might enjoy some of the action scene as long as I muted them so I didn't have to listen to the pointless shouting back and forth between the main cast. won't be watching this....even if I tried I don't think I could. I did like how they made it seem like a real invasion at the beginning. They usually shy away from showing any actual harm don't to innocents. |
This was always going to be one of those shows that is impossible to find online because just because.
Ah well. I probably wouldn't have watched past the first two episodes anyway if the acting is as piss poor as people say. Instant turn off. Plenty of people can act just passably. If in doubt ham it up and overact. Easy. Ah well. |
A few points I have in this whole episode.
1.Them going to explain why he's green and not black is going to be run into the ground till we can't take it anymore. 2.The only characters that fit well for their suit counterparts were Gia and Emma.Jake,Troy and Noah don't fit their suit counterparts at all.I tried so hard not to laugh at "Jake" bouncing on the rope shooting X-bot 360's while saying "Super Megamode is awesome!" 3.It just felt like one giant commercial for the toyline, more so then Gokaiger because they wouldn't shut up about how cool it was while they were fighting.Planet is getting destroyed, don't care how cool your powers are. 4.The X-bots with flashlights.....why? The costume design staff couldn't incorporate a light into the end of their staffs? When they walked in holding flashlights,I just cracked up. and last but not least...5."I can't wait to get my tentacles on them!" |
Am I the only person who doesnt care they havent explained the pirate thing? If they do, they will. If not, they wont. It's not a big deal. For all we know, the production team hasnt even realized its pirates :lol

Let me start by saying I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, this isn't me trying to take a jab at Power Rangers because of any kind of elitism or sentai purism.
That being said there seems to be a pretty apparent willingness to ignore blatant editing issues, dialogue and sound effect inconsistencies, and the general lack of a decent plot in this episode by ranger fans. It seems people are ready and willing to accept a subpar product, what this episode was, simply because of the spectacle of it being a new Power Rangers series. And unfortunately Saban will continue to produce this kind of substandard series as long as people are willing to except such a thing. |
If the show continues like this for the whole season, i'll be pissed. That's why I hated Megaforce. But for one episode, which introduces us to what this is all about, I found it perfectly solid.

Apparently it takes a stupid amount of bandwidth for it not to buffer every 4 seconds. I just watched it. It was decent. I had fun watching it, but it could've been so much better. I hate the obvious cuts. There's not nearly as much original footage as I had hoped. Hopefully that changes during the rest of the series. I didn't mind the dubbed over dialogue as much as I did before. I did like the call outs for the keys. Though I wish they had done SPD and Ninja Storm too. Or instead of the dumb dialogue, had each member do the call out for the team they were changing into. Also, the fact that the role play toy sounds don't match up to the show bothers me A LOT. The toys are now nothing more than props. |

Yeah, you know what, the audio was pretty shoddy now you mention it. Actually really bad... Often the music was louder than dialogue. In most shows and films that would mean an automatic sacking for the audio mixers and masterers!
And yet they can get away with it in a modern day power rangers show? I'm really confused. Yeah I'm only an amateur and yeah I did a degree in music technology (and I'm not at all trying to sound elitist here), but the fact I could probably do a better job in a really short amount of time compared to these "professionals", well, that's pretty terrible really, isn't it. Are they paying these guys so little they can't be bothered to do a decent job? Or is Johnnie T/Saban/Nick suggesting they don't have to do a decent job because it's a kids show? Is the problem a time limit imposed on them by some random exec who's never watch an episode of PR in his life? Frankly none of those are good enough excuses. If a bunch of lazy arse 19 year old students could get their course work in on time, then I fully expect real, proper, paid professionals to do passable, vaguely consistant work within a time limit. Am I being picky? I don't think I'm being picky. |

I mean, compare the suit actors for Gosei Red and Gokai Red.Gosei Red fought with determination and vigor.Gokai Red fought with cockiness and as little movement as possible. In other words it's more of a problem with the suit actors then the actors themselves. |

Sure, you can cut the role call with the pirate flag and the scenes inside the pirate ship and things like the treasure chests, but that doesn't change the fact that anyone can see the trend going on with the series' designs. Still, I do want to see the episode and make my own opinion for it. I just got through the end of Megaforce to get ready for it, but I can't find it online for Australians anywhere. I'm also interested to see if they wanted to photoshop over Gosei Red making a tornado why they didn't choose the other wind-based Red (Ninja Storm). |

I am on the fence to be honest. I feel like I want to kinda like it and be ok with it but lol. Gokaiger was one of my favorite seasons so it holds a special place with me. I know I am going to get like this next year when they adapt Kyoryuger urrrggg.
It was nice to see Gokaiger footage but honestly the characters DO NOT FIT. Like someone said before me the only people who somewhat fit their characters are Emma and Gia. I mean every time I saw Gokai red footage and immediately thought MARVELOUS. Like stated earlier... how can Troy go from the style of Gosei Red to Gokai Red. It just doesn't make any sense. They are two completely different people. And Noah being a weapons expert omg. As awkward as they try to make Jake I don't think he can get as awkward as Hakase. Honestly I am kinda glad they made him derp out about being super mega. I actually did enjoy the ending when they were in the classroom and the teacher called back to the question he asked in class at the beginning of the previous season. That gave me the fuzzes and I felt like it was a nice touch. Is anyone bummed that there will be no navi? :< I loved that robo bird. IF ONLY ROBO KNIGHT TRANSFORMED INTO ROBO BIRD. Dead lol. I am sad about the changing and not having the morphemes call everything out. I remember watching Gokaiger and every time they would change I would yell out haha because I'm a weirdo like that. I have a feeling the Black to Green is going to be the running gag for this season. |

I think the yammering helps the situation. The suit actor can be acting as cocky as hell and unfair as he likes, shooting guys in the face and using body shields, but if his smirks and scoffs are replaced with Troy telling us how awesome Super Mega mode is the whole time, the glaring personality difference is much less noticeable. Just look at the end of the fight, change the scoff Marvelous had while brushing his chin and looking at the defeated Gormin to a "YEAH!" As Troy looks at the defeated X-Borgs and the whole thing comes off differently.
Jake and Noah, eh. I feel that later episodes will look more out of place. But once again, the suit actor can be clumsily dodging attacks and running away from groups, but if Jake's telling us how powerful he is, it looks like everything is a lot more purposeful. We'll see how they work out Noah's sword fighting skills next episode, which is adapting the episode all about Blue's excellent sword skills. All in all I thought the episode was OK, although it definitely had its problems. Holding it to Megaforce's standard, it was pretty good. Scenes like the school and mall seem amazing nowadays, but they'd be fairly standard in Pre-Saban. Outside of the mall and school, none of the invasion was original footage and a lot of the more violent shots were cut, so I wasn't particularly shocked at the whole invasion. |

Also, the Blue ranger sword episode comes from the episode after next, I believe. Next episode adapts the missile monster/Dekaranger/SPD crossover, though I suspect they're cutting out Doggie Crugger. Although....his voice actor HAS done work as current Saban monsters before, so who knows. |

No they'll continue to do so as long as enough kids are watching to keep ratings acceptable just like they did in the 90s. |
^^^That. While I my super sentai experience is minimal at best, I hardly find it to be much better at editing.
All in all, Id rank this episode a 9 or so. The brief explanation of legendary mode being hard to maintain helps explain the ADHD power switching. It was exciting to see the Jolly Roger Megazord in action the very day I first see one in stores. I cant wait for the rest of the season. |

/snarky sarcasm (with apologies) I agree, there is a 'subpar' element to it, because it is subpar compared to the amazing GoKaiger. Nothing is gonna come close, and frankly I was surprised they even managed to keep a few pieces of the original in place. Granted, the out of synch effects director needs his hearing checked, but the US viewers buy into it because they either are misinformed (they don't even know that these originated in Japan, or are in the 5-11 age range that just watch tv), or are people who choose to ignore fan subtitled series. That's what I think the point of Tokunation should be, information for the kids and fans who really like the series, and can learn more about it. It is too bad that it'll be warped beyond recognition, and just think about how many more scenes are probably being refilmed by Saban just to exclude Japan only Ranger characters. That cost is more than likely the 'no expense spared' (paraphrase) comment we got a few months back about Super Megaforce. They're basically rewriting a whole series just to shoehorn the US series in. I think subpar is the wrong term. But bast--dized might be. Plus, it's Nickelodeon/Viacom partially footing the production bill. Of course it's gonna be subpar and just sell the toys. They dedicated the last two minutes to showing the 'Super' vehicles, weapons, characters, etc as a glorified toy commercial. But it's not Saban completely responsible for the quality, I don't think that's fair. The things I disliked were the morphing scenes from the Gosei uniforms to Gokai. That bugs me a lot. That and the sentence phrase "not Ultra, Super". Super Facepalm you mean. The voices were better, and by better, I mean not teleprompter stunted. But Troy is NO Marvelous. And I have a really REALLY hard time envisioning Gia as Luka and Emily as the flouncy Ahim. There however was a lot to like about what they did with it. I'll enjoy comparing it to the superior series. And why is it everytime I see the name Loudermilk, I have to repeat it about sixty times? It's like the worst last name ever to get stuck in your head. Loudermilk. |
