Any idea when we can expect the subs?

Subs have been released! Over-Time's definitely on the right track for this series!
|
Just caught it subbed and loved it. I real loved the train fight even if the CGI was not the best, it is nice to see the individual Ressha go at it agents the Shadow trains. I hope we get to see that MotW again just for the costume alone even if he's a cheat.
|
I am liking it more. Sure they are all dead, and all things are explained by IMAGINATION. But It is good.
I've also notice Toei loves there red rangers with English words for names, Right, Marvelous, King.. |
"They treat switching like a toy gimmick" :lol
I continue to love this shows humor and ability to reasonably break the 4th wall. |
Really liked this episode. The show built up a big chunk of its mythology today and I'm finding it very fascinating so far. I like the idea of how the stations seem to work and what happens when the Shadow Line takes one over. It seems to explain what's up with our heroes, but apparently that's not quite all there is to it. Very curious to find out more.
We got a lot of stuff with Hikari this week, which totally makes up for him being largely ignored in the pilot. I like how he serves as the grounded member of the team and works to keep them all grounded when Right starts getting carried away. Honestly, though, I'm liking all of the characters at this point. The action was good, too. I liked the train duel, even if some of the greenscreen was a little dodgy in places. It's probably still a little early to tell, but so far I am loving this show. Quote:

The train duel was magnificent. When I watched the livestream it was hard ot take it all in because of the video quality. But the HD here more than makes up for it. This battle was funa and well though out. Having a semi-honorable villain was also a unique touch, even if he cheated at the end.
And is it just me or are we seeing early hints of Greeta being in love with Schwarz? Or as I've affectionately taken to calling him, the most death metal badass villain design ever AKA robo hitler. |
ToQger is the only show where I actually watch the credits, dat themesong.
It's kinda weird for me to watch a toku episode that connects on almost every level. Firstly was the balance between drama and comedy, the Duel Fields thing turned out to be a deliciously dark concept - plus with the overarching conflict of the news the ToQgers learnt last episode it was all pretty grim indeed. The humour that existed to balanced it actually worked really well, and never left me groaning or feeling like the drama had been drained out of the scene. The self aware action in this show works so much better than it does in Kyoryuger, "They treat line switching like it's a toy gimmick." and the way Tokku 2's tracks slip like his glasses. It's so silly, but it isn't juvenile in its silliness, it's fun. Like that train duel, WONDERFUL. It's just great. Great effects, great designs, great humour. Love it. Obviously it's too early to say this team is great...but this team is great. We've got the happy go lucky red, but then he actually has genuine support from his team which makes a really nice change after watching Kyoryuger. The only real downside is right now Two and Five seem to just exist for comic relief, but since in two episodes we've established Right is the hero, Hikari is the anchor and Mio as the voice of reason really gives me hope this may be a sentai with a genuine team dynamic like Goseiger had. My only real issues with the episode are superficial things like the train boner, and Wagon is SO annoying but if she's isolated to just a few short scenes I wont mind. If she ends up taking over the show Candi style, we're gonna have fallings out. Other complaints are the same as I have with every sentai show, like obvious soundstages and it's a shame that after Kyoryuger, this show appears to have gone back to the mech designs of the days of flimsy wobbliness. But overall, fantastic! |
I cannot stand pink, dont really have anything else to say on that but I cant be the only one to find her character annoying as all hell

I'm kinda with Locke, though: this show is just clicking for me on pretty much every level. |
Same. I expected to enjoy it immensely, and I really truly am.

At first when this sentai was revealed I didn't think id like it as much as I do now, like this to me is better than Kyoryuger, nod we are only two episodes in!
I really want me some train toys now>_< moments like these when I think I should of gotten these instead of a Sengoku driver(which isn't here yet). Speaking of toys, why does t Bandai make a Shadow Ressha! |
Sword fight on top of dogfighting flying rainbow trains
Holy fuck that was an awesome sequence i want shadow line mecha |
This episode.
Yes. Yes, yes, yes. Yes. This is everything I want from a sentai show. I must process this. Feel kinda blindsided by it. |

Another great episode, with some fantastic action. I really liked the train duel towards the end. I am so so glad that this season seems to be going in the right direction for me. It's just plain FUN in all the right ways. I know I said this last week, but I think it deserves repeating, I freaking love the look of the Shadow Line, just some awesome villain designs. Part of me kinda wishes that they had held off on the reveal of the ToQgers origins a bit longer, but ah well. I do think it makes it somewhat obvious that there is inevitably going to be an episode where they end up going back and likely purifying their home town. Locke's pretty much put a lot of I would want to say into words already, though we typically seem to fall in that similar wave length a lot so yeah... I think I said this last week as well, but this season just reminds me a lot of when I first watched Fourze. It manages to have some genuinely good, dark ideas, and yet has this fantastic sense of humor and it is just freaking fun to watch. I really really enjoy myself when this is on. Glad to see a bit more growth for the team, namely with, as Switchblade said, Hikari. He's a very very necessary character I think, and the show had a great analogy for his role as well, being the anchor/weight to Right's balloon. Do hope to see some further development on the rest of the crew as well. Oh and Wagon was introduced this week wasn't she. As occasional comic relief I don't think I'll mind her. I did get a chuckle out of her "don't swipe it there!" line at least. But she has to be used properly or else I can see her getting annoying sooner rather than later. The color swap gimmick still felt a bit unnecessary, but at least the show managed a nice fourth wall breaking jab out of it. Maybe later on, if it's still used, it may actually feel like it serves a greater purpose, but as it is right now it's just...well, a toy gimmick. Still, only have really minor nitpicky complaints, the show is proving to be most enjoyable. It's clicked with me in all the right places and I am definitely hooked. All aboard for next week! |
Pink could fall off a train, and I could care less.
That being put out of the way. This episode was not that bad. In fact, I actually enjoyed myself. Still not as good as Kyoryuger. But, I have hopes and imagination that it will get there... |
Loved that Episode and everything pretty much worked for me. The only thing I am not 100% sure on is Wagon. I find her design to be a little creepy and her acting all sexy didnt help :lol
|
So after 2 episodes, I can't say that I hate it. It isn't hitting all the right notes like Kyoryuger did, but it seems like I will at least be able to watch it every week. The Shadow Line designs are just pure metal and I really hope they end up getting their own mecha at some point in the series.
The team's origin has me interested and my initial thoughts are that they are actually still kids, but are imagining that they are older. It really feels like an official Akibaranger story. Just replace delusion with imagination. |

Not much new to add. Loved it, and yes, wagon was slightly annoying. Hopefully they keep her in check. I went into the series not liking pink, but now I kinda find her adorable.
Where are the conductor, ticket and wagon when ToQoh forms? The chest? |
That was a MUCH better episode than the first one. I really enjoyed it overall though the Pink ToQger still annoys me a little bit. I think it's the pigtails :lol
I liked the suprising darker tone of the episode and the mystery surrounding the ToQgers is definitely intriuging. I'm not looking forward to the next episode too much as it appears to be Pink focused...who knows, maybe she will turn a corner character development wise. |
This episode was pretty cool. I like the mystery it sets up with the rangers pasts and exactly what happened to him. The Conductor and that puppet are shady as hell...I wonder if the puppet really is alive on his own or if it's just the Conductor being disturbingly weird.
Like I said when I watched the Raw, I like that the green ranger got some focus after getting basically none in the first one. And it's even better with the subs, now that we know he's the most sensible one. The fourth wall breaking is pretty funny too,. I'm surprised Ticket even had that toy gimmick joke. Nice that the show pokes fun of itself like that. Not a big fan of this monster of the week's design, but his personality was pretty cool. The train dogfight was a pretty awesome fight, not much else to say on that. Still didn't see much of Shadow Line, but it looks like we're getting to know them more, bit by bit. |
On the topic of pink, I don't mind Kagura at all. She doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the team, but she doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. I love watching her in battle - as far as the first two episodes go, she really represents the idea of a kid with imagination a lot better than Right to me.

Especially since Conductor and Ticket said that there current situation has something to do with them being influenced by the Shadow Line but not exactly the way they initially thought. What I am the most interested in at the moment is why they are only able to remember events from the past that they experienced as a group. |
Maybe they're all one person, like the reverse Daigo from Kyoryuger :lol

Anyway, I finished episode 2. It was kind of alright. It had it's moments (I loved watching the villain's swords break on the tunnel), but it wasn't anything overtly special. I'm enjoying it more than I anticipated, which is always a good thing,, but I'm just not drawn to any of the toys since it's plainly obvious what makes the in-show version of the toys look nice vs why the actual toys...Don't. For characters, I'm kind of liking them. I'm rather split. So far, only Pink is the one I don't like (Yes, I get the point of the character. Imagine yourself stronger and you can achieve anything. I'm still not a fan), while the others just don't do much of anything for me, but they're not annoying or angering, so I can watch them just fine. The mecha fights aren't really drawing me in, though. I guess I'll have to get my weekly mecha fights from Galaxy Mega in Megaranger. |
I've gotta say I'm really not a fan of this mecha yet, either.
After Kyoryuger really pushed the quality and engineering of the suits (even as things started to get "stacked" for the most part - at least so far - they've still managed to remain looking sturdy and solid and not like they're gonna imminently fall to bits) but I dunno, it feels like this mech has taken a giant step backwards in terms of quality and engineering. The ten foot high shoulder pads look flimsy and because of the battle between the proportions of the idea and the proportions of the human body everything about it feels awkward, like a teenager who is starting to grow out into a man but is caught in that awkward between stage. Whereas - for better or worse - Kyoryuger padded its mech fights with elaborate CG movement, in both of the mech fights so far in ToQ they just kinda stood there...did a special attack...the end. A thirty second sequence which is tacked on and pointless is just the worst for me, they act like sentai is progressive but so far the giant stuff has been 100 percent toy focused and hasn't added to the story in any way. It's frustrating as well, because when they use individual resha for dog fights and swashbuckling duels it clearly shows they have a big imagination to make them really awesome, so it seems so lame...that it is so lame when they all come together. |
While I wasn't a big fan of Kyoryujin, I do agree that it was more interesting to watch. After the fast paced and energetic train duel, ToQ-Oh's fight was incredibly boring and on the anti-climatic side of things.
|
I actually love Kyoryujin, the cockpit kinda sucks and some of the forms are missteps but ultimately I'm just so grateful for any advancements in the giant stuff, which feels like it's barely changed in the entire history of the show.
The disconnect of quality between the decades of advancement in the henshin hero and general production and the mech stuff has just grown wider and wider and the sturdy mech suits of Kyoryuger made it feel like that gap had grown just a little bit smaller. |
Watching this episode, I got the sense that this series is going to be something special. Between this and Gaim, it seems like Toei is making a declaration of excellence this year.
In the same way that Gaim has everything I want from a Kamen Rider show (complex plotting, shady conspiracy, moral ambiguity, heroes that are forced to make tough choices, awesome one-on-one fights, intense melodrama), ToQger is poised to everything I want from a Sentai show (a straightforward clash between good and evil, intense relationships between characters, a measured balance of silliness and drama, stand alone episodes that focus on a different character each week, large scale action, baroque & Machiavellian villains, emphasis on family and teamwork, heavy/scary topics addressed with humor and levity). 2014 is shaping up to be a banner year for Super Hero Time. (Of course it's still really early and things could go off the rails super quickly, but I'm feeling optimistic today. :lol ) Now for some stray thoughts and speculation: - I assume part of the series' narrative will be the ToQgers gradually assembling the missing pieces of their memories. I'm already interested in how they fill in the blanks because I have so many questions. Did the kids grow apart over the years? Did some of them stick together? Why are they all different ages if they're clearly shown as children together? There's lots of room for interesting stories if regaining memories is part of the show's structure. - If they're all dead, I want the show to build to a point where, by the end of the series, we see flashbacks to the day each of them died. Could be incredibly poignant. - I think it'd be interesting if they all died at different points in their lives, accounting for their age apparent discrepancies. Like, Kagura died as a teenager, Tokatti after graduating college, etc... - ToQ 1 fighting on top of the train with the Shadow Line monster was one of the coolest action sequences in Sentai history. - The dog-fighting trains more than make up for any lackluster Daikaiju fight sequences. - Hikari is perhaps the dreamiest sentai dude in history. /swoon - Kagura is the kind of character that could easily tip into annoying territory, but her imagination gimmick is so charming, and she's so cute, that I can't help but love her. - "They treat line switching like a toy gimmick." -- Hilarious 4th wall breaking. - Brilliant Exchange, on so many levels (and another beautiful translation by Over-Time): Hikari: "He's older, but he hasn't changed at all. Right ends up dragging us along as usual." Mio: "You haven't changed either, Hikari. Right tends to float off like a balloon, and we get pulled right along. But you keep us a little bit anchored." Hikari: "Well, to be honest with you, I'm kind of afraid of heights, anyway. So flying too high doesn't suit me." |
I still miss Kyoryuger.
That being said I'm loving this and voted excellent again. I also like how each episode we're getting closer to knowing wtf happened to their memories and how they became ToQ's. Also loving these monster designs, especially the Shadow Line commanders and those Crows. Those Crows are just farking amazing. And my love affair of ToQ Yellow continues! Wagon though does nothing for me :lol My only real problem is with ToQ-Oh and how skinny that thing looks. It's all straight, it has no definition. Know what I mean? Especially after the girth that was Kyoryuzin and Bragi-Oh. |
So sad the Kuros is just a footsoldier, and not actually a character and a major villain. It's weird because most of the time the footsoldiers just look like dudes in pajamas and masks, and then you get the stuff like the Kuros and the Buglers and it just feels like a waste of a cool design.
|
The Buglars were damn awesome. But they were essentially perfect for the mass produced bad guys, even though I could have seen that costume used as a one off monster. The Zorima from Kyoryuger were kind of a joke though. The last couple great troops have been:
Kuros (ToQger) Buglars (Go-Buster) Dragonoid Jaryuu (Boukenger) |
I like how the Paramonsters had so little effort put in, they even fought with bikeseats. I dunno something about the Bugler design just had presence, I could totally see him as like an elite assassin or advisor to the big bad.
Man I might watch the first episode of Boukenger later. |

Am I the only one who kinda loves this soundtrack(hurhur)? Especially during the gattai.

Look at the shirt that the Kid of the Week is wearing. IT could be major foreshadowing about the ToQGer's status/fate:
Its a directory for a children's hospital. |
