As a DX it looks fairly unimpressive, but I like the design and I'm sure the minipla will do wonders with it.
|
So I had a hunch about something so I decided to take a look back at the combined form.Diesel-Oh is the ToQger version of Gunbir-Oh.I know the pipes on the head match, but I looked back at the Diesel-Oh/ToQ-Oh combo.Diesel-Oh's right arm is a cannon, which makes him all the more better in my book

I see where people are coming from on not liking Diesel-Oh. He has something I can't quite put my finger on that bugs me but I do really like him. Theres something nostalgic about him and I like Diesel Locos so there's that to.

I mean hell, the poor fella doesn't even have a neck, making him look awkwardly squashed like those guys who over work their shoulders without balancing their weight training elsewhere. The mecha is supposed to combine into a robot but the ToQ mecha takes trains, sticks them in a line and puts a head on it. JOB DONE, LET'S GO HOME, SUCKERS ARE STILL BUYING IT. I mean it doesn't even look good, look at the ridiculous proportions, I dunno how this will even work in the show, will the guy be on stilts? |
Honestly, I love this thing. More than ToQ-Oh.
|
ToQ-Oh isn't a tough act to beat though, let's be honest. It was a subpar design in the first place, that vaguely harked back to more classic anime robo designs, but not really.
Then so far the show has had awful mech battles week after week, with one of the most pathetic mech gimmicks put on the screen in recent times. Oh what, they hate that all robos do these days is swap arms? Well guess what, this time we literally just used whole, untransformed individual trains... as arms! |
Why do you care Locke? If you don't like it, that's fine, but you've made your point quite clearly already, many times.
Also please stop it with calling people out on liking this thing. They're not suckers regardless of how much you are "amazed by the positivity of something so unequivocally crappy" or you "don't get how you can support something that is simultaneously lazy". |
Because I just find it odd, that so many people are defending such a piece of crap. We rightly hate on Power Rangers for lacklustre projects, but seem happy to promote one of the most watered down sentai robos in years.
I'm not trying to change peoples minds or call anyone out, if you like it, that is your kink and if you get defensive from my solid criticism of a bad design, then that is your issue not mine. |

Well all my posts are my opinions and only my opinions, I didn't think that'd need to be stated. And yeah, I am shocked people like it, I really really am.

And am I the only one whom thinks that Tokkyuger's toyline is incredibly average? the DX mechas aren't all that inspired, the changer is obnoxious and won't shut up. I'm liking Tokkyuger a lot more then when it aired but I look at the toys and don't really feel a need to own any of it outside the Minipla. |

It's our issue because you MAKE it our issue by repeatedly forcing your negative opinion down our throats. I don't watch KR at all. When threads on it pop up, I keep scrolling and click on something that interests me. I don't click into the thread and go "gawd, how can you guys like this crap? it's so uninteresting and boring and blah blah blah". On topic, I (ironically) also think diesel-oh is meh compared to ToQ-Oh. I originally didn't like ToQ-Oh, but he grew on me when the toy arrived, so maybe that'll be the same here. I DO worry about the long awkward legs though, as I've put tank and carrier on ToQ-Oh and it does look awkward. Diesel has a shorter torso though, so while it may help in height, it does make it look like he has his pants hiked up. Either way, preordered :p Amazon JP says 4/26 -- are releases usually on saturdays? If so, is it so that kids have it to sit and watch the show the next morning? |

You are mis-remembering, I like the show a whole lot. But yeah I think the mecha, and general toyline, really kinda sucks. I've stayed out pretty much all of the ToQ threads bar the weekly discussions and a few posts in the main toy thread here or there, but as this is like the most active thread at the minute it's the place to post.
I've never once tried to change peoples minds, and I have a right to dislike something, same as people have a right to like it. So I fail to see how you giving me shit somehow makes you better than me just posting on a forum which is what it's purpose is. Quote:

Ah yes, he looks like a proper beard for ToQ Oh with his flippy down breast panel. I'll wait for Ressha Oh Oh OhhhhhMy....
IMAGINATION! |
I'm actually completely on Locke with this.
"Average" doesn't describe the ToQger line. It has an awesome Changer, a half-decent gun and then crap. The auxiliary mecha so far are jokes, I actually can't believe Tank Train is being sold separately as if it has some merits by itself, its combination is probably the laziest combinations we've ever had and ToQoh is an incredibly simple mecha with none of the fun gimmicks that previous very simple mecha have had. Before him, there's always been a reason for really simple mecha, hollow spring-loaded opening parts for a line-wide gimmick, electronics, etc but ToQoh has nothing, he's literally, "line-up the trains, fold two parts of the Red Train and DONE!" with absolutely zero gimmicks. Functionality with the Changer aside (which Kyoryuger managed without nixing the actual mecha completely of gimmicks) ToQoh does absolutely nothing, which usually only happens on mecha that are fantastic on their own (Magiking, Gaoking) or very old. Its pretty unjustifiable. Doesn't help that Gokaioh and Kyoryujin, the last two simple mecha, were, unless I'm mistaken, the biggest (Kyoryujin) and one of the (second?) biggest (Gokaioh) core mecha we've ever gotten and had awesome gimmicks that extended across their whole line while gimmick-less ToQoh is dead average in height and pretty small in overall mass. The fact that Dieseloh seems to be the exact same situation, just with slightly more transforming of the main train, to me, is a big problem and doesn't give me much hope on the future of the ToQger toyline. I love collecting DX mecha and I do own ToQoh because I want all core mecha, but I really am disappointed with ToQger mechs. I really feel like they've been super lazy with them. I admit ToQoh's looks have "grown" on me, but that doesn't mean I'm going to excuse the fact that he's extremely lazy and my first reaction after playing him was "Oh. Meh". I love the show, but the toyline is crap. The Changer is great and I play with it often and I own ToQoh for completion reasons but there is NONE of the temptation I get with nearly every other series to go out and buy everything. Of course, this is my opinion, but I really don't need to actually point that out. I don't think less of people that do like the ToQger toyline, but to me its just not up to scratch. I don't think there's a problem with discussing why we don't like something or asking others why they do, because its all in the discussion of the toy. I could understand if the reasons for not liking it were stupid, but I think they're fairly justifiable. |

One of the reasons I love this design so much (and I DO think I could do better on all of them without sacrificing the rainbow aspect), is that it's what I wanted to see as a mecha; freight trains. Is it perfect in my eyes? NO. But I am not going to complain about getting what I wished for from something I have no control over. As for how you swap the limbs, part of the fun there is that it's abusable. While I will agree that Red's train is the only one so far that actually transforms well, the others seem to be of average difficulty for vehicles. Notably, Pink and Yellow are of the exact difficulty of the Lightspeed Rescue Train versions. Flip out the limb ends, reveal connector. And I will say that mecha was better than this or ToQOh, even if it was Scramble City. I like this line for the same reason Baltmatrix does; I see potential along the likes of GaoRanger. But coming off of Go-Busters and Kyoryuger? This is absolutely weak tea. |

This is just me, but I really think we shouldn't dismiss the functionality of the train mecha as actual trains that can be lined up and customized to their individual carriages and engines. For example, looking at how the Yellow and Pink Resshas separate between the engine and carriage shows how an elbow is impossible. When you take this into consideration, I think they did a fantastic job with at least ToQOh (the only one I have experience with). Also note that ToQOh is a rare recent Sentai bot with no partsforming involved. For me then, the gimmick is having each individual mecha be a train toy, a changer item, and part of a combination, and to manage all these three at the level they did is quite a feat of engineering, in my opinion. These three gimmicks extend throughout the entire line, and in fact are just as integrated, if not more so than Gokaiger's chest-opening gimmick or Kyoryuger's Zyudenchi gimmick. |
I don't mind there being no elbow because articulation in DX toys isn't part of the deal and I don't subtract or add points for parts-forming with Sentai mecha because part-forming has been the deal since forever but I do think they could've done better with the overall designs of the toys.
Just look at Tank Train, who was sold separately as an auxiliary mecha. His gimmick in the show is a pretty common one (punches) but the toy shows that off by plugging in the two ends of the train and nothing else. To me, there's no excuse as to why they couldn't have a Gao Bear-style punching gimmick because I don't see how that would affect its functionality as a train. I admit I am sort of selling short the fact that they're also train toys because of personal disinterest, but honestly I don't really think that's an incredibly notable gimmick that changes anything about the toys or create much difficulty in making them. Grand Liner and Kyoretsuoh both managed to do it and still have fairly good looking mecha plus they retained more involved gimmicks. The only other train that the ToQgers are comparable to as Travelion, who I also felt was lacking. |
Thanks Starscream, I felt like I was being taken to the cleaners for a moment there!
I don't really get the functionality argument - I've never collected DX mecha so feel free to enlighten me - so did the other mechs with better combinations and robot forms have individual parts without functionality? I assumed the individual pieces could still be played with, had articulation and so on on all the other DX mecha? So I fail to see how this has greater functionality that somehow forgives the shitty combination and a lack of a tangible gimmick? |

Not a huge train buff myself, but I have to say, I underestimated the "fun factor" of having trains. Connecting them up and laying them on a piece of track, for example, is kinda cool. http://i.imgur.com/GkNXwLY.jpg Would be cooler if they came out with an actual motorized train and track set. It would save me the hassle of cutting one up to install a motor :) |

I don't think comparing them to Grand Liner and Kyoretsuoh, or even Travelion, would really work for the ToQger mecha. For one, those are not really train toys; they're more like robots who transform into trains. That's not really the same thing. Each of them is isolated, there is no ability to customize carriages and link up with more trains and carriages as you buy along the line. Train toys must be numerous in types of engines and carriages, customizable, and uniform in size across the line. For ToQoh alone, I already have five engines and 5 carriages to play with, and I've already messed around with a few combinations. For example I got the Red Engine to carry the carriages of every other train while I use their engines to play with the changer. :D While the combinations of DieselOh are merely okay, I'm excited to get that Diesel to pull the carriages of everyone else by itself as a train. I admit that a lot of the "robot" aspect of the ToQger mecha was compromised to satisfy the "train" aspect, and I can see why they initially said that this was targeted at train otaku as well. Still, no train Sentai mecha has ever done so well as playable trains, and I'm not sure any other toy company out there has done this. I guess it all comes down to whether the train gimmick is an important one for you. It's pretty big for me, so that's why I'm sold on it. :lol Quote:

Well to say again that Deisel oh while not having the best design ever instill do like. I love trains and seeing Super Sentai, then Power Rangers doing train Mecha/Megazords is fun and lining them all up is what trains are sort of about, and replacing arms the morpher the change figures all look really fun so I guess this will be my first Sentai line.
|
We're less than 2 months in, have NO idea where this is headed and honestly, its a train sentai, the majority of what theyre going to be working with is rectangular blocks. I think people need to ease off the gimmick love and engineering and just accept this is the line now, next years may be better or worse, but thats next year, this is now. For the record, Im of the thinking that if i owned the morpher the noises wouldve driven me to kill myself by now.
I dont care whether people collect or dont collect the mecha, I do. I think its goofy, stupid, cheesy and all kinds of wrong, but im enjoying it so far. Its cheap, its doing the trick for me, and ive at some point owned pretty much every sentai mecha from the last 20 years, with several exceptions, but I dont feel the urge to compare everything. I get people want to bitch, fine. But please aware you can sound like a childish dick to those of us that dont feel the urge to vent colourfully at every reveal. Not knocking anybodies opinion, but if youre just going to hate, please step off now. Id like to enjoy this line and collect it all. No doubt i'll sell the whole lot as soon as the show ends. Im well aware its not a patch on Kyoryugers mecha so far, or many other shows, but they could easily give us a G12 level cluster mech at the end of this, and i LIKE that idea so im sticking with it. Now, my actual point. Im less interested in this form, I want to see the Cho combination, with the daft head and ridiculous shoulder cannons. On the whole though, looks pretty much as expected. |

I also collect DX mecha and some I love and some I hate, part of the reason I'm on this forum is to discuss said things and being called a "childish dick" for doing such things is incredibly uncalled for. |
You do realize how hypocritical you sound, right?
"I'm not knocking anyone's opinion, but if you're opinion isn't my opinion, please don't voice it." |
Knock it off people. Agree to disagree and call it a day.

Either way, I plan to gut the train that came with it for parts so that my rainbow line can ride again! haha Got pics of the bridge set? Something about the whole model set in the show is just amazing. |
It would've been cool if they installed a small motor in the Red Ressha so you could actually run it on a track.
|
Getting the thread back on Track: I can't wait until the official images of Diesel-Oh and Toq-Oh combined come out. We had teaser pics, but the official ones should be nice.
Feel bad for the suit actor though. None of those mechs look comfortable to wear. Especially when ToQ uses Car Carrier Ressha. The wire work! |

It's been said before, but that special rainbow Ressha is a thing of beauty.
I'm still very blah on the whole series of ToQ mecha, but I'm still holding out to see the final combo. Looks like they're finally back to putting as much together as they can instead of limited combos. |
