This week's episode was the best yet in the series. A really cool idea for a Horror and a great homage to the horror genre. That opening was pure gold.
|
All the horror movie homages this week were really, really fun. You can tell that someone in charge of this episode really loves all of those films. I loved the touches Over-Time put into subbing them, too, with the old school yellow font and everything.
I liked the Horror this week, too. The actor played the cafe owner on Kamen Rider Kuuga. He was fun there and it's great to see him again. Next week: hey, haven't seen that guy on Garo in, like, a month. :lol |
The choice of actor is on purpose.
Kitaro (きたろう as in actor's name /鬼太郎) with youkai (妖怪) and undeads gives the perfect match. |
OMFG, episode 4 is by far one of the greatest Garo episodes ever made!!!!!
I loved the nods to American horror movies along with the little social commentary about CGI taking over practical effects. Not to mention the Horror itself was one of the best designs out there. This episode rocks and it is going to be tough to top this one. |
Forgot to mention: I loved the bit where Raiga was drawing. It's cool to see him take after both parents. Gonza's line about having no idea where he got his sense of art was priceless.

Episode 4 was great. Maybe the first truly great episode this series. Episode gets bonus points for starring Oyassan from Kuuga.

Flower 04.
Greatest episode of toku ever made. I'm not even joking. My all time favourite toku franchise took a trip, or at least nodded at some of my all time favourite films. A single episode of toku will probably never top this for me. |
I have to agree, that was one of the best episodes of anything I've watched in a while and without a doubt one of Garo's best. Absolutely superb.
It was a brilliant touch by Overtime to use yellow font for the movie subs too, it made everything work even better. |
Perhaps I'm mistaken, but Episode 5 seems to have Thane Camus aka. Ring in it as another Horror. Guess our boy liked the series so much he wanted more than the mini-series. Good for him.

Hoo boy, that new Makai Armor in Episode 5. Just one surprise after another with it. Hope it gets the figure treatment.
|
New episode is out guys :D
|
Yeah ep. 4 was awesome. Instant classic. Just watched Stars ep. 5. Great effects in the last fight scene, it was epic. I was kind of thrown off at first by Crows armor but in the end he looks awesome!
|
Episode 5 was a lot of fun thanks to Ring's actor. I wonder if he loves toku or if this was just a timing thing. Crow being able to fly but losing a significant amount of time to do so is a pretty cool concept, as is how the helmet works.

Flower 05. Raiga's actor is so fucking bad, I miss Kouga so much.
Not really a lot to this episode, it was very much a piece of spectacle than really something with any real depth or meaning to take away. Not that it was bad, however, Stellas is certainly better than Ring ever was and the general direction and choreography of the action was as solid as I've come to expect from the franchise. Absolutely love Crow's armour too, it feels so much more monstrous than GARO or Zero's armours do while still retaining the refined elegance of those suits. It was great. |
I really love the Horrors this season. The show has done a great job of giving us these really interesting and memorable villains this time around, it's always a treat to see what the new one has in store for us each episode. I just wish Raiga was getting some of this focus, too, as he's starting to feel really flat as a character. I like him, but he really is coming off as kind of a minor character in his own show.
I still don't trust Crow. Something is definitely off about him. Not sure what I think about his armor, either. The helmet isn't really working for me in either mode. The wings are freaking awesome, though. |
Yeah Kouga was definitely better. The thing is Keita had no problem with expanding and developing Kouga and his background. There was no holds barred. With Raiga I'm pretty sure he's trying to keep his upbringing and things about him a mystery so as not to ruin or reveal the fan beloved Kaoru and Kouga. So as a result every episode is get orders, find horror, smile and talk a bit then kill the horror.
Oh well the fight scenes are awesome. Suits for the horrors and armor are epic! Great designs and CGI is much better so far as well. I always liked the individual horror stories anyway. Makes for an intriguing different horror each week. |
I love Crow's suit. It looks very Femto to me.
This series is easily the best Garo series since the original. |

Oh shit yeah! I wasn't a big fan of Makai Senki so I forgot a lot about it but that episode was cool.

All knights got their Garo armor from this tower.
Yup it is the same tower in season 3. They also have to return there to cleanse their armor there from time to time. http://img4.blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ybi/1/...9_5?1324569617 http://img4.blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ybi/1/...9_6?1324569617 Raiga will be going there in the next episode. |
I wonder what's so special with this book, and why only this book.

New episode's been out since yesterday, only just saw myself. Shame so very few people are watching this, this show has been really solid so far.

Flowers Six.
The fight choreography and production values in this episode were incredible, I'm still a little blown away by how they create such incredible Horror designs and have them on screen for like five seconds. Sadly everything else...kinda sucks. I can't tell if the acting in this is really bad, or the actors just aren't directed very well. Pretty much every scene feels really awkward, but that may also be possibly down to language barriers too. I'm at least hoping the dialogue flowed better in Japanese. It really didn't work well in English. |
I'm with you there for the most part. The fight and the horror were badass but the plot itself was lacking in execution (though I did like the concept and there were some creepy moments in there).
|
All I kept thinking about was the Windchime episode of Mikazuki and how much better that was than this. Also, now I've seen the hell mermaid, nothing in GARO scares me any more.

I watch the raws the day they are posted on YouTube. It's always the same guy. I'm sometimes the very first person to view the video.
Anyways, I love every episode so far. One question though. Wasn't it stated or shown that you can draw a horror to yourself if deeply depressed or in despair? Or is it the anger and hate derived from that despair that attracts them? Loved the Kaoru book reference! Love the subtle glimpses of his parents past no matter how small or subtle they may be. |
I watched the first season subbed by TVN as at the time - dunno if this is still the case - they had the best quality rips. Sadly between all the honorifs, Japanese grammar and words not translated because...fuck it, my grasp on the shows mythology has always been tenuous at best.
Then again subsequent seasons have seemingly played it on the fly anyway when it comes to continuity and mythology, so I don't think it even matters if you even vaguely understand what is going on, because I'm not sure the writers are sure themselves. |
