My first series, start to finish, was Decade, and it did stick with me. But unlike others, I don't hail it as the best.
It's rather funny that I hold my first real KR series as basically "How not to make a Kamen Rider" :lol |

While the first show I finished was Kabuto my first show watching week to week was Decade and yeah both of them didnt hold up for me. I still enjoy Kabuto alot more than Decade though. Kabuto is like your typical cheesy 80s action movie for me. Not alot of depth and the characters way too hard to be bad asses :lol |
I watched OOO, Fourze, and Gaim start to finish. Loved them, Fourze being my first completed series.
Ryuki I recently finished, and Ren holds a special place in my heart. W I've only seen a handful of episodes of, but I love what I've seen. I watched a few episodes of Wizard. I had intended it to be my first series, but... I got five episodes in and lost all desire to finish it. None of the characters interested me. None of the plotlines interested me. I liked the suit designs, but that was it. |
My first show was OOO, but the first one I watched to completion was Wizard, because I watched it as it came out. the only reason I didn't finish OOO is because I had no time, even back then :p

So far I have watched:
Black Black RX Kuuga Gaim I think it's between Kuuga and Gaim for me. Gaim was the first one I watched mostly live (I started watching after 15 episodes, and caught up pretty quick) and I loved the horror vibe Kuuga had going on. I intend to revisit Black at some point, and want to check out W as well. |
Kuuga Agito

I had seen some bits of Decade and W before I watched OOO. W didn't really get me at the time and everyone said: No! No! Don't watch Decade! So I chose OOO because I loved Eiji's cameo in Super Hero Taisen... |
TOP FIVE (with short explanation)
1. W This series is hands down my top for so many reasons. The characters The style The Music The designs The story!! It all molded perfectly into pot of delicious eye catching soup (lol) Phillip and Shotaro made the perfect bromance Accel is an amazing secondary rider with a good chemistry with everyone Akikko sure many hate her but she was too cute to hate even if she was a bit annoying. Villains were all good even for a monster of 48 hour thing goes and the main baddies were even sympathetic in the end. It was truly a HARD BOILED show A+ (and for those of you wondering this is my 2nd show I saw all the way through first was Gaim...) 2. OOO This again was an ALMOST perfect series if not for one thing and one thing only. It was the rushed feeling towards the end of the series where all the commander baddies were pretty much just shoved aside for the ending. But other than that everything else was great sans a FEW ost tracks I could care less for. Eiji and Ankh were great Eiji as a rider was lovable as an aloof man who just wanted to help and Ankh as the "you love to hate " friend. A 3. Kuuga One thing to say Right NOW Godai is on the top 3 of my favorite riders ever he is lovable he is realistic at times and he even has a human side to him we do not see very often of riders who all have the HERO personality. Fights were amazing Story was Awesome sans a few fillers and plot holes here and there but other than that it was very good. A- 4. Den-O What do I even say about this show? Its too lovable for anyone NOT to like. The imagins are perfect with their defined personality Ryotaruo (i KNOW im misspelling it somehow) is just to good of a guy to hate even when he is a bit wimpy and above all else something I find for every KR show is...MUSIC and boy does this show deliver. Of course being a time travel show there are a few (cough) plot holes here and there and many of the villains could use some tweaking but over all amazing. A- 5. Gaim This was also very good but SO SOOOO over rated. This was my first show so when I saw it I thought it was amazing until I saw shows it basically lifted from and it slowly drifted down. Coupled with the fact that the ending felt forced and rushed some characters had little or no development, and well lets face it our main rider is just TO stubborn at times! He knows he has to kill these villains no matter if it hurts but he tries to hard to be a good person and not kill. Even in W Shotaro knew when he could save someone and when it was too late to do so and did what he had to. Kouta is just to nice of a guy and imo should have lost due to it , but of course being the main rider he has to win the day. Sadly of course he has the happy ending and became GOD! Too happy for him especially how naive he was. So over all it was good but of course it was lacking. B |
I want to say 000s, but I really like W.
|
Ryuki
555 Gaim Fourze Kuuga (No particular order) |

Seriously, though; I haven't seen Den-O, but this is pretty close to my list. W was my first and still favorite; I get excited every time Shotaro pops up in one of the movies. OOO and Kuuga have two of the most likeable riders, and Gaim has fruit hats. What's not to love? I'd put Fourze somewhere on my list, though, largely because my kids loved it; it's their favorite series, so that colors my perceptions. Plus, it reminds me of every high school anime, so it gets some nostalgia/familiarity bonus points. |

Blade's next on my watch list, so I'm hoping for good things. Sounds promising.

Shame Blade's translation and video quality are crappy. I wouldn't recommend it for these reasons.

Really? I've been pretty happy with TV Nihon's subs so far, but I admit I haven't watched Blade or Hibiki. (And I'm not exactly fluent in Japanese, so it's not like I'd notice most problems.)
One gripe I do have, though, is that it seems like they throw in harsher language than is necessary. Maybe they're trying to match the impact of a particular phrase or something, but it seems weird to have actual swearing in a kids' show, even if it's only from time to time. |
Blade and Hibiki were in the early days when Nihon was rushing subs out and didn't care if their translations were fully accurate or not. They aren't bad, but there are lines that don't make sense due to poor wording. Plus, the video quality is from the TV rips that were out at the time they were airing, which looked great for 2004, but then came 2008 and they start to look like old bootlegged VHS tapes.

But yeah, the Blade and Hibiki subs really suffer from low quality raws and sloppy translations. I assume TV-Nihon is aware of this, which is why they're currently resubbing Kabuto. :rolleyes |
That's a shame about the quality. Maybe they're waiting for Blu-Ray releases of those series or something.
The "kuso" thing bugs me more, since my kids (10 and 5) are also watching these shows, and, though they can't keep up with all the subs, they can read. (I'm usually reading the fansubs to them and self-editing.) I'd prefer that they not pick up any new words to spring on Grandma. :) On the one hand, I suppose I should really be bringing that up with TV Nihon, but on the other hand, I suspect it would fall on deaf ears (or they'd point out that I'm getting their stuff for free, so I shouldn't complain). |
I think most subbers are going off some translators or their defining the word by which context it's in. Like kuso is basically an insult in Japanese so it can mean jerk, bastard etc but it depends on the context of how it's used.

As for the "jerk"/"bastard"-translation, the word you refer to might be "yarou", which Momotaros uses a lot. Nihon usually translates it as "bastard" or "asshole", which is a bit harsh imho, but not necessarily wrong. Quote:

W, OOO, Den-O, Ryuki, Black, and of course Gaim are my favourites.

Fuckin' Nihon. |
Well, they do have improved on that matter over the years.
