This was amazing! I actually like the whole shuriken motif they have going on. I also like shuriken jin he's just so weird and awesome at the same time. And I think I have to mention that damn shinobimaru is one agile mothafucker

I thought the first episode was incredibly fun and the ED is so damn catchy. Like I honestly don't ever remember being so hooked to one before like I am with this.

Terrible acting but, damn, Shinobimaru could carry it's own show.
I LOVE that thing. |
The theme song is so old school it gave me chills. For a first episode they plunged right in, and gave enough pacing for it to not feel rushed.
The zords.....oh man...I can't even wrap my brain around how they work and combine. That's just the nuttiest bag of tricks ever. Totally makes Hurricainger look like a childrens magic show. Can't wait for the subs. |
Subs from Over-Time are up!

Well that was a pretty spectacular intro. The mecha stuff absolutely blew my mind - if this series keeps that up then Go-Busters has a serious contender on its hands in that regard. As if all the Shinobimaru suit work wasn't fantastic enough, then it went and started moving those levers/pedals in the Shurikenjin sequence. Incredible stuff.
Really liking the team so far too. My first impressions say this looks like this is going to be another series with a more prominent red focus (I say "more" because all Sentai shows have it one way or another I guess), but hopefully it'll still be able to strike a relatively decent balance. That said, there were a couple of things I wasn't a fan of. The villains have pretty good designs (though not a patch on ToQger's) but so far it's all the samey Samurai-youkai stuff you see everywhere so not a lot to really yet. The other problem was that the Shiro Ninger humour feels REALLY forced. I guess that's mostly a non-target audience viewer speaking, but those jokes just fell completely flat on me. The mecha one would have been better if it had actually gone on to do something useful afterward. |
I'm having issues with patching or something.

Episode 1 pulled in a 4.8% share of the ratings.
http://www.girlpop.jp/news/detail/?p=6624 That's the highest viewing for Super Sentai in four years! |
Well, that was... not bad, I guess. I mean, it wasn't good, but it wasn't really bad either. It just kinda... was.
The pacing was a mess; there was easily two episodes worth of plot and character introduction here but it all got shoved into about 10-12 minutes and the show really suffered for it. The story's also painfully generic and lacks any strong hooks to pull me back in, like ToQGer's amnesia mystery. I do like Fuuka, since she's one of the only characters with a personality so far. I'm not sure about the forced clumsiness, but I do like that she seems to be the straight man to Takaharu's more goofball nature. The other three were totally there and stuff. The action scenes are okay, but unremarkable. The weapons also look incredibly plastic, even by Sentai standards. The mecha is a complete mess of unrelated designs and, honestly, the little dude moving around on the chest actually kinda creeps me out. I do like the idea, though, that someone in Japan bought up a bunch of valuable downtown real estate solely to build a hollow skyscraper for a giant robot to hide in. I find that oddly amusing. I forgot about dancing end credit scenes. It is very, very rare to find one that doesn't look completely stupid. Maybe we'll get one of those next year. I honestly don't know if I'll watch the second episode. This one wasn't awful, but it made almost no real impression on me and nothing about it made me feel particularly interested to see any more. I may still check out a few more episodes, but it's really going to depend on not having anything that I'd rather devote 25 minutes to. |
I can't watch the subs :(. Overtime's site won't load properly and the download link keeps failing.

gotta say that episode was very meh.
love the suit designs and the monster designs seem okay so far (cant help but feel like they ripped that first deign of the blue/white guy from TF Prime though) but the design for Shurikenjin is horrible looking and it is annoying as hell that we have yet another bumbling fool for a female character |
Me and my brother loved it.

So watched the episodes with subs and they improved greatly on my viewing experience and HD certainly helped with that as well. The episode was paced really well with not too much information crammed into it but enough that you get a grasp of the characters and what the conflict is going to be. The episode gets the job done in terms of getting our heroes from point A to point B but doesnt do very much with it. I dont need episodes on episodes for them to decide if they wanna do this or not so this was really nice. The characters are also very basic right now but this should improve within the next few episodes. Takaharu, Fuuka and their Dad got the most focus but thats completely fine for a first episode since that gives us a really good idea for three characters already. And since Sentai is rarely an ensemble cast show its good to see that our main character Takaharu has its personality pretty fleshed out by the end of this episode.
The comedy in this show is also pretty hit for me. Only one I didnt go crazy for were the Wanmaru jokes but I didnt hate them either. Most of the jokes I found were really funny though and werent too overly silly and goofy. My absolute highlight for this show so far is the simple fact that this shows fight scenes are so extremely basic in all the right ways. There was very little use of wires or green screening when the heroes did their fights. Most of it was just the suit actors being incredibly good at their jobs. The opening scene alone with Takaharu doing all those flips, bouncing off of trees or sliding along the ground to get his sword just made me a very happy Convoy. The miniatures and animatronics in the mecha fight were also a real delight and impressive to look at. The highlight of the episode by far though was Shinobimaru. The suit actor did a remarkable job in those scenes and I have never seen a giant fight in toku that was this fast paced, natural and full of complicated acrobatic maneuvers without looking clumsy. So yeah count me in for this show. |
I loved so much of this show. All the characters felt very unique and dynamic very early. I loved all of them very fast. It's great to see a Red inspire his team very early on, Takaharu's fearless attitude I absolutely love. Yakumo/Cloud is my favorite, I like how he fights, and figures out things pretty fast; also his entrance was awesome. I also love DragonMaru so much. Nagi is a lot of fun, I love that he causes mischief. Kasumi was pretty cool I love her techniques a lot, and Fuuka was great too trying to hide that she is like her Dad and Brother more than she'd like to admit. I also love the brother and sister element to Takaharu and Fuuka. This reminded me a lot of everything I loved from Kyoryuger and MagiRanger. This is one of my favorite first episodes of a Sentai ever I can't wait for more.

I'll be gladly watching this after Better Call Saul tonight. Cannot wait.

Loving this third Ninja series!
|
That was a pretty enjoyable first outing for Nininger it left a pretty good impression on me. I liked how they weren't eager to join in the fight, that I think worked well enough for me.
|
Finally watched the subs, have to say I'm definitely going to enjoy this year.

I think the pacing was actually better than ToQger, but I do agree there was a lot less mystery. I want to snuggle Fuuka. That is all. Someone else said that Takaharu seems a little like Daigo 2.0. That may be the case. I wasn't a big fan of Daigo's "Little Miss Sunshine" type of leadership performance, but at least in KyuRyuger, there was a need for that. We'll see with Takaharu. The actor himself doesn't scream "Shiny Happy". The end credits dancing however REALLY screams Vamola Mucho. I'm sure once they get some kids doing it, it'll be hi-freaking-larious. The music though is seriously old school flavor. I was expecting OhRanger to show up or DaiRanger. The weapons...oh I have to agree. They are definitely plastic, and probably will put an eye out. But it's to sell toyz. |
I just finished watching the subbed version of the episode....

The first episode is Ninninger was pretty damn awesome!! It is by far the best first episode since Gokaiger, maybe even since AbaRanger. It has a cast that seems pretty great and none of them are screaming or whining. The choreography was good. The mecha could be better design wise, but they to did a good job. Shinobimaru is just awesome because of all of the stunts the suit actor can pull off. It had the right mix of comedy and seriousness, which is something I have been wanting to see in a Sentai series for a while. It did also have a lot of vibes from DaiRanger, KakuRanger, GoGoV, Hurricanger, and Shinkenger in there, which is not a bad thing because it felt like it took the strong points of those series. Overall, this was an excellent first episode and I hope Toei can keep this up for 49ish more episodes.

Overtime is not working for me :(.

Just watched Ninninger and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! I was surprise that they didn't relay on too much CGI but instead relay on acrobat effect.
I like how Nagi asking why he get a dump truck! I also wonder why he get a dump truck! I will take that Grandfather will be responsible mentor since he fought Kibaoni 444 years ago (How Grandfather live so many years) while Father will be buffoon mentor since he almost lose 4 Ninninger. How ToQger keep up with Ninninger or How Ninninger keep up with ToQger? Please, Toei. Focus more on other than Takaharu! We don't want another Daigo Sentai Kingranger. I want that StarNinger's burger! NOWWWWW!!!!!!! |
He didn't fight him 444 years ago, it was 444 years between his original death in the Sengoku era and him resurrecting now.
But then he also came back at some point before then, which is when their Grandfather fought him. |

Double post DELETE ARGH!!!

Well Takaharu will without a doubt get the most important role in the story so that should be expected. Red is always the main character in sentai with the rest of the team acting more as a supporting cast.

I just saying that Takaharu didn't have to hogging screen time from his team. The reason of why Kyoryuger is Sentai's rating failure because they focus TOO MUCH ob red ranger than his teammate. Super Sentai is about teamwork, not a guy with his sidekick. |
Its not a "ratings failure" when its not that lower than Sentai has been for the last three years. And your argument doesnt even work since Kyoryuger has the highest toy sales since 2001 so when kids wouldnt have liked the show because of that they wouldnt have bought all the toys.
The thing with Sentai is though that while its about teamwork that doesnt mean that all of the characters are equally important to the story of the show. Japan rarely does shows that have ensemble casts like the Avengers or Justice League where everyone is equally important. Sentai is a show about a team of suprheroes. The shows main character is the red one with the other being his supporting cast. You can still do the whole teamwork thing regardless of that cause it shows every team member being important for the team to function and to win. |
I liked the humor of the show and I also loved the 'but we're only human' aspect. There was no way they could fight off all of the baddies as normal humans. So they had to hensin. :P
A few notes about the dropping ratings: (a) Japan has a rapidly declining birth rate so that there are less and less new kids to watch the show. (b) these ratings do NOT include mobile devices only traditional tv. A vast majority of youths watch on these mobile devices. |

In Jetman, the focus was on Red, Pink, and Black. In Zyu, it was Red, Green, and Pink. In Dai, Red, Green, Pink, and White. In Kaku, White, Red, and Black. Oh is Red. Car is Red. Mega is Red and Silver. Ginga was Red, Bullblack, and Green. GoGoV was Red, Pink, and Blue. Time was Red, Pink, and Yellow. Gao had Red. Hurri was Red and the Gouraigers. Aba focused mostly on Red, Black, and Killer. Deka was Red and Pink. Magi was Red, Blue, and Shine. Bouken was Red and Yellow. Geki was Red and Chopper. Go-On was Red. Shinken was Red, Yellow, and Gold. Gosei was Red. Gokai was Red, Blue, and Silver. Go-Bus was Red and Beet. Kyoryu was Red. ToQ was Red and Orange. That is not to say none of the other rangers ever get developed, but their stories do not tend to focus on the main plot of the show, or they are developed in filler episodes (such as NinjaBlue and NinjaYellow in Kaku). |
