I can't talk about all the Japanese made series, but based on the 5 that I have seen (Headmasters, RID (1), Armada, Energon, and Cybertron), only one (Cybertron) ever hit "Decent" in terms of quality. The rest were just utter trash. I once heard that Japan treats Transformers as a very juvenile show, a series that should be aimed at the 6-9 age range, rather than the 8-12 one America aims for. With how they handle their series, I'm inclined to believe that rumor. |

Well look at their Beast and Prime dubs.*shudders* |
I love the Takara trilogy regardless of how bad people think they are. They do have flaws but I wont lose sleep over it. Plus the concept of the powermasters/godmasters was some next level stuff for my 9 year old brain.
|
I might've liked Armada a bit more if they'd actually finished work before airing it.
Cartoon Network needed the show sooner than anyone guessed, meaning the animation was very rough & sometimes unfinished with several errors. The dubbing process was done with an incomplete script, meaning several characters were given the wrong names. On several occasions. |

Transformers is one of my favorite franchises. Loved the series since Beast Wars back in the late 90's. I seen almost every series expect for Victory, the Beast Wars anime, Rescue Bots, Animated, Robots in Disguise (2015) and Go. My favorite shows in order would be:
Beast Wars Prime G1 Super-God Masterforce Robots in Disguise (2000) Beast Machines Cybertron Headmasters Armada Energon Quote:

What about Rescue Bots? :p
Anyway, you should really check out Animated. The first season is rather silly, but it's a great show. |
The Beast Wars anime was also known as "Beast Wars II". My friend had a couple of the VHS's when we were kids. I borrowed one and never gave it back because things happened and well...it got lost.
|
I forgot about Rescue Bots. I doubt I will watch it since it's made for 2-5 years old kids. I have a three year old cousin that likes it and I introduced Transformers and Power Rangers to him thanks to him.

However, when I did check it out, it wasn't a "How many rotors are on Blades, kids?" show, so it's not grating :lol |
I did not know about Beast Wars Neo.
|
Beast Wars Neo is actually a show I would like to watch, but from what I get there are no English subs for it. But the show sounds cool, I really like Big Convoy for not being just another Prime but a unique personality and Magmatron is kinda cool too. I like the ending of the show, it's far better than most Transformers-shows where the Decepticons just lose the war and that's it.
I want to get into the toys as well, so far I only got Lio Convoy, but I'm ordering a Big Convoy soon. Thank Primus for the Korean releases of these guys. |

Japan got Neo a month after II ended. Quote:

I used to have a Lio Convoy. But again, things happened and it too got lost.

The shellformer aspect isn’t bothering me as much, even though you can take most of his Mammoth-parts off and build it next to the robot. At least there's some amount of complexity in the transformation, not like Break where you break open the penguin and pull the robot out.
Also I really like Big Convoy in robot mode. I love the gimmicks he has, the giant gun, the Matrix (isn’t he the first toy ever to come with a Matrix? I believe so.) and details like his left arm that got torn off and replaced, it looks awesome. Quote:

I only seen episode one of Beast War 2 which was a fan dub. I saw it last semster at my anime & manga club for "Anime based on American Cartoons and Comics". The fan dub had the whole club laughing their asses off, it was like being in a episode of MST3k.
I doubt Beast Wars 2 and Beast Wars Neo will ever see a legit DVD release in the US. Shout! said on their Facebook page that they have no plans to release the other Japanese Transformers series on DVD. 2000's Robots in Disguise TV show seems like it was in the hands of Disney from what I can remember when Disney bought out Saban in 2001. |
I wasn't a big fan of Big Convoy, is all (I only owned the Nemesis Prime repaint the US got during the Universe line, but same thing, different colors). Though there were lots of aspects about him I did like.
I've only ever seen the subbed release of the Beast Wars II episode that had Optimus Primal get transported to their universe. It was okay (I do own the yellow Lio Convoy, though. It's neat). |
Beast Wars II and Neo are two entries on my "Plan To Watch" list on MyAnimeList that I don't know will ever be cleared off... Would really, really like to see them some day though.
|
I guess the Japanese G1 Transformers TV series didn't sell well enough for Shout! to put B2 and BN on DVD in the US. I have both Victory and Masterforce on DVD. I never had the time to buy Victory on DVD. I do own a bootleg DVD of Transformers Zone and it's a cool one shot OVA.
|
They both just recently got a complete dvd release in Japan. I dunno why no one picked the dvds up yet to sub.

TVN said that they have no plans to do more Transformers subs. It seems like Transformers Go never got a English dub. Hasborb could have edited Go into a TV special and make some new toys for it.

It was the first episode of BW2. From what I can remember, Japan got two Beast Wars anime while we got Beast Machines instead. It been ages since I seen Beast Machines and I remember it being okay.

Energon was the worst TF series in my opinion. I found the Unicron Trilogy to be a fan-fiction tier mess. Armada, Energon, and Cybertron are the Transformers equivalent of Dragon Ball GT to me.

I even liked the kids, stock footage and the dual animation style. |
The MTMTE and Combiner Wars combo is quickly sucking me back into Transformers. Someone send help, I can't breathe in this mountain of robots.
|
Cybertron was so forgettable to me. The only thing I remember from it was that Unciron turn into a mega black hole that was going to destroy the whole multiverse.

What makes Energon stand out is that it had a story to tell and completely failed at doing so, in addition to it's poor animation and weak script. G1 is just a product of it's times. A show made to sell toys with episodes that only existed to showcase the newest toys on the shelves. While Transformers as a franchise is made to sell toys, series from Beast Wars onward had stories to tell and weren't just vehicles (Pun not intended) for more products. |

Armada was probably the best out of the three which is not saying a whole lot in my opinion. |
What saw subbed of super link and Galaxy force the japanese story for both are so much better the energon and cybertron. Heck super link actully had story fit prop fro micro legend. Megatron in super link is call Galvatron from start to finish.
|
Galvatron....*sniffles* Rest in peace Leonard Nimoy.
