Funny enough, I think I'm going to watch a few of Nihon's subs for my favorite episodes this week to celebrate.

I'm on the fence about getting TVN's subs.
One one hand, I'm not super interested in Dairanger, but on the other, if I do grow an interest to watch it, I'd have to get the official DVDs and I'm poor as hell...

You could check out the Nihon subs as long as they're still there and then, if you have the money and like Dairanger, support the official release, perhaps?

The amount of seeders probably increased since the announcement and rush to DL. So it shouldn't take a decade to download like Goseiger...

The files are also much smaller, so that should also make it go much faster.

I didn't buy the Zyu set because I already watched it and I have already watched Dai, but I think I am going to go back and get Zyu along with this one just to support the releases so we can get more. Maybe if the demand is there, they will pump them out faster.

Dai on dvd along with the Thunder Megazord makes this a pretty good SDCC for PR fans. Only thing that would have kicked it into overdrive is if we got a sentai SHF reveal lol

I have a feeling they think it is safer for them to go with the shows that were edited into Powerful Rangers since that probably has the larger built in audience. Like you and some others, I would love to see the older sentai shows in general, and Jetman in particular, officially released on DVD here in the U.S.

Regardless, I will happily purchase Dairanger and most of whatever other shows they release. Except a Carranger.

Why not Carranger? It is one of the most satisfying Sentai series out there.

Anyway, I too would love to see Jetman. I think they should just see how well a non-PR Sentai works with it and go from there. Sure, I love Liveman, but I really have a hard time sitting through the series I've seen that come before Jetman (couldn't get into Turbo and Fiveman lost me around the halfway mark).

Oh god, Liveman. That bored me almost as much as Sun Vulcan.

Considering Sentai releases, I'm rather okay with them choosing Dairanger. Perhaps kids who watched Super Megaforce and saw the suits as "Legendary powers" will finally get to see where they came from.

It would be nice to get Pre-Zyu sentai released officially, but I'm just happy that they're doing this at all (I was actually curious if we'd get Dairanger, thinking they'd go straight from Zyu to Ohranger, skipping Dai and Kaku).

If there was one pre-Zyuranger series I'd like to see, it's definitely Gorenger. It's unlikely, but I'm certainly interested.

Considering Kakuranger was adapted (Sort of) into both MMPR Season 3 and Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, I think they wouldn't have skipped it, in fact, I bet it's the next Sentai series we get in the US.

I'd be interested if Goranger got adapted. It is the very first Sentai series after all, so it'd be cool if it got a US release so kids could see where Power Rangers originated from in the first place.

Hang on, how many kids would actually watch these? Besides having parents who are fans of either this genre, or Super Sentai/Power Rangers, I find it unlikely that kids would just either be cruising through Amazon and find one of these, buy them, and then when they get it not get far into it and then forget about it.
It's just I find it hard to believe that a lot of people would be willing to go out and buy a lot of these, especially pre-Zyu.

Well, now that they're doing Dai, then it only makes sense Kaku to get released next.
I was just initially skeptical since Kaku's adaptation was only a 10 episode long miniseries with squid people.

You never know. Not all kids have the attention span of a gnat.

If sure if kids were at the age where they were curious enough to want to see where Power Rangers originated from in the first place, they'd just watch the Japanese version - in which case releasing it in the West in its original form makes the most sense. No way is Goranger going to ever get adapted.

Goranger is around 84 episodes long. I think the boxset would be a bit bigger then your normal Sentai boxset. Not to mention the license fee for the show given that it's pre-Zyuranger might make the total boxset a bit more pricey.

I still like to see Shout release Kamen Rider shows one day. They did release Ultra Q and Ultraseven so anything is possible.

That would be cool, but I'm not sure it will happen. Ultraman is far more popular globally than Kamen Rider and Sentai has an in via the Power Rangers connection. All KR has is Hawaiians who watched V3 in the 70s and anyone who remembers Masked Rider or Dragon Knight.

It is far too silly and juvenile for my taste. Especially after Ohranger which, while admittedly uneven, when it was serious, it was exceptional. It could very well be an age thing too as I was 28 when Gekisou Sentai Carranger aired. As Sentai parodies go, I much prefer Akibaranger.

As someone else had mentioned both series, I also hope that Kakuranger and Ohranger both get released.

I'd love for Carranger to get released. I want to know more about "The series that saved Sentai" as some are apt to say (I have no idea whether or not it's true, and how bad Ohranger's sales and ratings were).

YES! I always wanted Akibaranger to get a Power Rangers adaptation! If not, at least get released here just like Zyuranger/Dairanger.

Ohranger had the lowest ratings in the franchise's history until Go-Busters. The toy sales, however, were actually really good.

The series is a lot more serious that you might think. It was meant to be a parody series, but its undertones are quite serious. Just look at the Zeonette's crush on Red Racer.

But wait, weren't Kyoryugers even lower? And I'm not sure how Toqger did and Ninninger currently but I'm sure they're in the same boat.

But unlike Go-Busters, the toy sales for Kyoryu, Toq and Ninnin are much better.

The problem is, we can't be sure why they have low ratings. It could just be the time the series air in that is causing it to have low ratings. It's on early in the morning, and with DVR and the internet, there is no reason to watch something that early if you aren't up already. The ratings don't account for those watching it on DVR or streaming, so of course the ratings are going to be lower.

Still waiting on my Kamen Rider dvds. Gimme Ryuki dammit!

Other shows in the past have air early Sunday mornings in the past and did fine before with ratings. I think low ratings is likely because there is not many kids watching the shows these days because the amount of kids that like these shows are lower compare to 10-30 years ago. Not to mention Yokai Watch is really popular with kids over in Japan and has become the new Digimon (Pokemon rival featuring kids and cute/cool monsters).

I also think lack of interest from older viewers also hurts ratings since it seems like most older fans don't seem have much interest in the newer shows. Japan has their good share of purist fanboys who act like the new shows suck and how everything in the past is good. I know kids are always the main target audience, but having older people tune in on watching the shows also helps.

Just had a thought - I hope this is going to have the movie on it as well and not just be the TV episodes.

Take note, some of what follows may be subject to conjecture.

Carranger is something like "Akibaranger before Akibaranger". It's something of a parody of Sentai and has numerous "hokey-jokey" elements to it. Ohranger started serious then took a step back, supposedly because real life events in Japan were upsetting, like the gas attacks in the subways during the '90s (this might require a little research to determine timing and cultural effects).

Go-Busters came before Kyoryuger, hence why I had the word "until" in that sentence. Every other Sentai series after Ohranger had higher ratings until Go-Busters.

Oh wow I didn't even consider that til now. How infuriating would it be if Shout did start releasing consecutive seasons but left the movies out? :(

Just making a friendly public service reminder: Be nice to subbers. They're going to stop making Dairanger available a few days before the DVD release. So when that happens don't take it out on them. Go and buy the DVD and support Shout so they keep doing this.

I thought of this to the other day, and I'm going to guess it is the TV series only. The movies are probably a separate license. Although, it would make for a great bonus feature.

Saban and Company could release the episodes and then go back and negotiate for a separate release of the movies, especially those he has directly used for P.R.:

There may yet be hope for this even if things look bleak. If fan interest is strong enough, it may be enough to convince Saban that the specials are a valid "investment".

Actually it was the actor who played Kazu's doppelganger in one of the episodes, Tsuchiya Daisuke, who is Blue Beet. :)
Fun trivia: Tsuchiya Keisuke who played Kazu/Kirinranger is his actual twin brother and was also Black Beet.
