I don't understand the dislike for Dairanger either. Yes, I think it is the greatest Sentai series ever made, but that is because there is so much going for it, one of which is the lack of filler. Only 6 episodes of the entire show is filler-related, making it the most plot driven series of any Sentai. That alone makes it hard for me to comprehend why anyone would not like it, especially when I see comments about it not being like for its filler even though only like 23 episodes are filler.

While I didn't enjoy the first two episodes (all that i've seen of it) from what I've heard, the plot sounds pretty awesome. I also really love all of the suit designs.
The biggest turn-off with that show for me though is the opening theme, I can't stand it. Usually people seem to love the theme...what are your thoughts on it? Am I crazy? |
Music is always subjective, so you'll never find a general consensus on whether a theme is good or bad.
Though you do realize the opening theme is basically the one thing you can always skip without missing anything, right? :lol |
Well, enjoyability (that's not a word...) of a Sentai is subjective too, but people tend to prefer certain series to others :p.
And who skips the opening theme? What kind of savage do you take me for? |
The kind that would be willing to skip one minute of a show to enjoy the remaining 21.
|
That sounds awful.

However, there are plenty of shows I love that I found the opening theme to be subpar. Hell, the original Gundam opening theme is absolutely atrocious to listen to. The only time I listen to the opening theme is the first episode I start for the day. As such, I may get through 20 episodes without the opening theme because I won't watch it again until the next time I start watching the show. |
Honestly, there's 3 occasions where I'll listen to the opening theme of any series.
1. First viewing 2. Major status quo shift (I wanna see if it changes/I already know it's changed so I wanna see the new theme) 3. Final episode Other than that, I don't see the point in watching what I've already seen time and time again. And unlike morphing or transformation sequences, I also know the exact point in the episode where I can skip to~ |
I like to watch the opening theme because it sets the mood for the episode and gets me excited to see it. Sometimes, even if I don't really care for an opening at first, it'll grow on me (like Ranma 1/2.)
Of course, there are exceptions. For starters, if a show is set up so that the end of an episode flows perfectly into the beginning of the next one, I might not want to watch the intro. Dragon Ball Z and Breaking Bad are good examples there (though, if the DBZ dubs kept the head-cha-la theme, I may have been more tempted to watch every opening.) Another exception is when the theme is just plain annoying. No matter how much I love Ultraman, the opening theme is pretty bad. Definitely not a Ranma-styled grower in that case. |
I just view it from a time perspective. If I can skip the one minute intro on a day where I watched 5 episodes, that means I get 5 more minutes to stare at Celestia.
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/...20121221120708 And that is time well spent~ |
Well, I usually enjoy the intros. Skipping the intros means I take away part of the experience. Sure, I get through more episodes in a shorter amount of time without them, but I also end up with less time spent enjoying the series.
In fact, hearing the Jetman and Liveman openings on youtube are what convinced me to start watching both of those series. |
I also enjoy the intros. I love intros like Gekiranger's, Kamen Rider W and OOO's, etc etc.
I also enjoy tension. And I can't think of a better way to kill it while marathoning a show than upbeat J-Pop :p The main reason why I skip them is basically to avoid overexposure. While watching a show as it airs makes it easy to sit through (Once a week, after all), doing it back to back can really kill my enjoyment of a song. |
^Same here. I watch the intro a few times, then I skip it while marathoning. Although there are a few that I couldn't skip because the songs were so good; GoGo-V, Gingaman, Goseiger, and Dekaranger....those songs play on my iPod when I drive or ride my bike lol
|
I usually watch episodes in bursts of two or three, so I don't really get the overexposure thing happening to me. As for the tension...I guess I can see that. For me though, like I said earlier, listening to the song gets me excited for the episode to start.
I guess I just consider the opening theme to be part of the Sentai experience for me. It wouldn't be the same watching an episode without the opening and the first 5 or so seconds of the ending theme. But I get why you'd want to skip them. |
I even watch the opening when I'm marathoning a show. Like for EpsilonX, it's a part of the experience for me too. Also, I just love the songs, especially when I can sing along :)
The only time I skip them is when I'm in a hurry (I sometimes watch shows on a train ride or before class, so I save time with that. But I tend to leave out the ending rather than the opening. |

It's not quite as classic as the Gorenja, JAKQ, Battle Fever J, and Denziman openings, and I don't love it as much as the Kakuranger, Gingaman, GoGo-V, Timeranger, and Gaoranger openings, but it probably tie with Dekaranger's theme for the last spot on my Top-10 list. Which, I mean, doesn't sound very high, but I still love it. :lol Quote:
When it comes to weeklies, I generally always watch the opening. I love how repeatedly hearing the song eventually triggers an almost Pavlovian excitement for the episode that's about to start. :lol |
I adore Secret Kakuranger~
Probably one of my top 5 themes |
Seeing that there's quite a lot of discussion on this topic, should we make an extra thread for Sentai music? I don't think we have one yet and we got kinda off track here...

Before this gets back on track,
Goranger, Goggle V, Bioman, Changeman, Flashman, Turboranger, Zyuranger, Kakuranger, Carranger Full Accel, Megaranger, GoGoV, Timeranger, Abaranger, Goseiger and Go-Busters opening themes are all awesome! |
Okay, I made a topic for this discussion. Now back to "why does nobody seem to like Dairanger in this topic?" and "Sun Vulcan sucks."

Edit: Actually, I was thinking of Lucha's comment when I posted that, but you also said you didn't understand the hate. I was just referencing the fact that a lot of comments on the first page said they didn't like Dairanger, and then a couple people came in and said "wtf man that series is legit." (paraphrased) |
There was never any Dairanger hate in this topic. We all just said we didn't enjoy it. That doesn't mean we hate it.
|
I wouldn't say Dairanger is the worst series because it's a very good series however, I felt that the plot was plain and dull but don't get me wrong, Dairanger is good to watch
|
I'm really enjoying Dairanger. Of the 90s series I've seen parts of it's probably my favorite.
The show I've enjoyed the least so far is Go-Onger. I didn't like any of the main cast in the first three episodes, and the engine-focused action wasn't my jam. I like more martial arts-focused stuff, I guess. |

I don't know if it's the right time, but I honestly think that Ninninger is my least favourite of the Sentais I have seen.
Like people said about Zyuranger, it only has like a handful of plot related episodes amongst the abundance of filler episodes and the characters don't really go through any real change throughout the series. I find the characters and the villains lacking. The only good thing I have to say about Ninninger are the actions scenes. Well it's ending soon anyway, so why i'm I complaining. I just hope Zyuohger can win me over. |
I'd say Sun Vulcan, but it wouldn't be fair since I didn't watch the whole series. I got too bored after the 6th episode to want to watch the rest of it.
The absolute worst series I've watched entirely is Zyuranger, and after that, it's a tie between Ninninger and Go-busters. I've seen practically every series so far, and I can say those four without a doubt are the ones I like the least, for all the same reasons people before have expressed. |
Kyoryuger and Ninninger are very disappointed Sentai to me
Kyoryuger was ruined by making all Rangers a sidekick to Daigo! Heck! It was nickname "Daigo Sentai Kingranger", This Sentai is all about Daigo! I find Plot Twist to be both lame and weak I am talking about Earth's Melody being the theme song of Kyoryuger! WOW! Ninninger was a promised show but they got a wrong writer! I felt Kento Shimoyama is not ready to become head writer. Naomi Takebe fit better for Kamen Rider than Super Sentai because after all, She did produce Kamen Rider Gaim which was the most popular Kamen Rider show Most of first half from Ninninger were focus too much on Takaharu, Just because he's Red Ranger doesn't he have to steal a spotlight from his teammates! Sure Red Ranger can be important but can you least give a spotlight to other rangers I heard Power Rangers Dino Charge doesn't have Tyler stealing spotlight from his teammates and most of Daigo's focus episode were given to Tyler's other teammates For Example Daigo was focus on a Wish Episode but Riley was focus on a Wish Episode too! If they love Red Ranger so much! Hired John Cena to play Red Ranger! LOL |
Lemme think here... I guess my least favorite would be Ninninger? Admittedly I haven't watched every Sentai yet, but even the ones most people dislike I've enjoyed.
But yeah I haven't even finished watching Ninninger yet, couldn't get past the first 8 episodes. .-. |
