The MRAs have invaded Tokunation. Quote:
Wow. Just... wow. |

And to answer LiamLee’s question, no, there’s wrong with damsels in distresses. I just think it’s possible for a girl to be strong and feminine. And what’s wrong with Sentai having more “action girls”? |
Quote:
Cute feminine girly girls and spunky action tomboy girls are both good, when written properly. The former gets flak because in the past it's often made the ONLY trait of the character, whereas the latter can often result in what amounts to a crossdressing macho man. Both suck. Want some good female characters? Katara and Toph from Avatar and the Mane 6 from MLP. |

The "damsel in distress" trope has nothing to do with characters being "girly girls" or "action tomboys." Both of those traits can lead to well-rounded and humane characters. No, the issue has to do with female characters being presented as objects to be won instead of legitimate human beings with their own agency and strength. This trope is a problem because many in the real world already view women as objects, and it perpetuates a toxic system of oppression. It is not as big of a problem when men are presented in the same role because that toxic system of oppression does not apply to men in the real world as strongly as it does to women. Although, it is still lazy and dehumanizing, and the male damsel is something I think writers should be wary of as well. In summation, the male/female (but especially female) damsel in distress trope is lazy and dehumanizing and should be avoided at all costs. |

Frankly though, your stance is still puzzling to me, since this is a franchise that has had at least one woman in a proactive role since the very beginning. Heck, how do you even cope with there already being several female blues? |

Wooooow, check out how derailed this got!
On topic though, I hate it when there is a large and interesting supporting cast that never gets fleshed out. As much as I love Fourze, I always felt like the Kamen Rider Club could have been so much more interesting. They had a variety of skills and talents and it really does feel like they are building them up at first, but they ended up mostly ignored in the end. From the one Sentai I've watched so far, Abaranger, I found the supporting cast even more lame. It just baffles me why they even bother having these characters if they aren't going to do anything with them. (I would love to see a well done female Kamen Rider myself. I think Bandai should just hire me already.) |

In Kakuranger, it's always Saizou, Seikai and Jiraiya that needs saving. Though, Tsuruhime joins them from time to time, like twice the whole season but the damsels are never without the three guys. The person/people saving is always either Sasuke or Sasuke and Tsuruhime. In Toqger, Tokkachi. He's the one who always gets the bomb on his head or gets the death note and had to be saved by his teammates. There is another male on the Sentai I'm watching now but it's best not to talk about it yet to avoid spoilers. Quote:
Oh, and aside from pink, white and yellow, I would like purple to be women's color too. The rest can be male colors, ESPECIALLY green. :D This isn't really marginalizing women because I wouldn't want men to be in pink or purple as well. No no, please don't talk about geki violet. I haven't watched that season yet. I think purple is a feminine color. And female damsels in distress resembles our real world. |
I'm no MRA but I prefer them over feminists. That's just me.

Women have white, blue, pink, yellow, and violet, with only one instance of red (Who was only in the series for about 6 episodes) and silver, additionally, Yellow, despite being primarily female after Ohranger, still has more male rangers than female, making it a predominately male color (And there have only been 5 female Blue rangers). I originally had a point, but I forgot it. Women should have more colors than just Pink and Yellow (Since White is rarely used, and Violet has only been used twice). Also, in the real world, as men are more likely to be in a combat situation, rescuing men in distress is the more common scenario. |

Frankly, the idea that only women ever get into trouble and need rescuing does not in any way resemble the real world. |

I may be going backwards, but these aren't necessarily in any set order.
8. Not enough development for the villains anymore. 7. Not enough human forms or just actors wearing a suit for the main villains. There is no reason Naria and Kubaru need to be straight up suits when an actual actor would have done just as well and given them more life. 6. Half of the ranger team is always left in the dust as far as development is concerned. 5. Gimmicks are getting out of control. 4. A forced mech battle in every episode. Kids aren't going to not want a toy just because it doesn't appear every episode. 3. Female characters tend to be one dimensional and lifeless. 2. Too much CGI in the battles. Give me some god damned choreography and stunts. 1. Cut the shows down by 5 minutes again. Sentai was at its best when it was 18 minutes long. |
I think you're the first person in this thread to actually post 8 problems concerning KR and Sentai :lol

Although, I'd add that most of main mecha for the past couple of years have been really ugly. Although, part of the reason for that is the increased accommodation for gimmicks. |

I recommend a bit more thought in how you express your posts, because there's no place for comments like this here. |
