I watched the trailer of Chronicle immediately after I watched this trailer. The only reason I knew this was PR was because it said so at the start.

I wanna be positive, but I can't be here. This movie needs to appeal to a general public audience, not a fandom that's been blue-balling for some dark anything in their children's product. The only people I see happy about this movie are the same folks that say "screw the show". It shouldn't gain praise by putting down something else. It should have its own merits & be measured by them.

There's nothing bad in the trailer but it doesn't feel like PR. It was so gloomy & depressing. I felt awkward when watching it. I'm supposed to feel excitement & hype. Not angst & emptiness. Where's the fun?

I don't want this to be like the show. We need a change. But I don't want this to copy some SyFy/CW/Teen Novel Film vibe. PR have an identity. It's just not in this trailer. It might be a good movie, but it shouldn't be called PR.

Hopefully I'm wrong & this film does better than I think it will. You know it's gonna get a sequel just on name alone. But they talked about building an entire cinematic universe, because everyone & their Mom is trying so hard to have one nowadays. And I can't see that with this current method. You need to have more than "dark", "edgy", "mature", "serious" stuff to be good. You need to use your materials properly no matter what tone they are.

Sorry, I'm wishing real hard that I'm wrong, but this doesn't look good to me.

As a huge transformers fan, no. I did not love the first one. I was happy that it wasn't as awful as I expected it to be. My thoughts can be best summed up in this webcomic.

And please, don't compare focusing on the teens to focusing on Sam. In a movie called Transformers, the titular characters weren't the main focus. That is equivalent to a movie called Power Rangers being focused on Alpha and Zordon with the actual Power Rangers having about as much character depth as the Putty Patrol.

Sorry to rage, but please don't confuse these two properties. You are right though, the producers of Power Rangers clearly understood how to make a good movie. Due to what properties like Transformers did to their original fanbase with their movie(s), I've had extremely low expectations that anyone would do Power Rangers justice. Seeing this trailer has actually given me a glimmer of hope.

That said, I've never been a fan of civilian powers. So breaking the sink, ignoring the bully's headbutt and jumping a la the Matrix just don't do much for me. If I wanted to see that movie, I'd watch Spider Man (2002).

I'm going to have to disagree with this. I hated the first film when it came out and so did a fair number of my friends. I hated it enough, in fact, to have not wasted my time seeing any of the sequels.

^This I like. I disagree on the civilians powers, though in the sense that I don't mind them for Later seasons. MM doesn't need them, and it's weird for them to have it. Though to each their own.

Mainly I agree with you on the Transformers comparison. Though I'd argue it be like focusing on the Zords instead of the teens, in a weird reversal if you will. The only way the comparison will work is if this movie is seen as okay, second is gutter trash, and third is better than the previous but disputed as to whether or not it's good.

And yeah, people have been hating on the Transformers movies since ROTF. I still hate the too black-stereotype-bots and the thought that those were okay.

Not me. I remember was like "That movie kinda suck" after it was over. I personally didn't like it when it came out and I give it a 6/10 at best. It was true that people did like the first movie a lot before the hype died down. I remember it was on IMDB's Top 250 for a few months and you had people on the web that was like "Michael Bay made a movie that didn't suck".

As time went on, people view it as a okay movie. Also remember people on TFW2005 did dislike too and I remember some of the flame wars was pretty ugly.

This looks like it could be a legitimately good film. Lots of focus on the teens, and build-up for the full thing. I'm hyped!

My biggest issue is that it looks like every pretentious, angsty, teenage misfit movie made today. I see no difference between this, a Bayformer film, and a DC film. They look like they are all filmed by the same people. Why are movies today so afraid of color?

Kids today love being big ass edgelords or pervs (Micheal Bay especially caters to 14 year olds iirc), though at least the Rangers have different colours :p

You can probably thank Marvel's garbage cinematic universe for that. Considering they release 10,000 of those brain-dead movies a month, they have the colorful, glittery, rainbow theme on lock. Hollywood lacks nuance, and opposing studios more than likely choose to go the exact opposite direction in order to desperately differentiate themselves.

I also at least give Michael Bay credit for knowing how to shoot a movie cinematic-ally instead of looking like shitty television shows IE most of the MCU. To be honest Hollywood is probably more interested in today's angsty teen, than yesteryear's angsty adult desperate to recapture their childhood.

Sony and Universal are doing their damnedest to make their own cinematic universe, with Universal aiming to bring back the "classical' monster movies like Wolfman and Frankenstein, in an effort to copy Marvel. What the hell are you snorting, or do you come from some separate universe entirely?

I like the Marvel/DC films. I like the transformers films.

As to the angsty teens. The original team with attitude were damn near perfect with Tommy being the odd one out. Of course he turned perfect when he became the white ranger.

I think some people forget that being a teen sucked. These tropes don't reappear because it worked for Breakfast Club. They reappear because that's what teens are like. Yes they have dialed it up here and there.

The teaser had to take us from normal life to not normal life.

I think we are so used to the rangers who are young adults(if not hitting their 30's). They aren't in school. They have jobs. They deal with adult problems and adult fears.

Seriously they slowed the HS stuff down in Zeo. Nearly lost it Turbo. Abandoned it after the 3rd episode. We didn't return to HS until Dinothunder. Even then they were barely show in class. We don't again return to it until megaforce. Writers use HS as just a place or tend to falter on anything class related.

Now if I see a ranger sit in detention while their friends are getting killed, eye roll.

Anyway, for the conversation going on, I to liked the first Bayformers movie. It wasn't amazing, but it was entertaining. Revenge of the Fallen was crap, but no where near as bad as how Dark of the Moon turned out. Oh my god that movie was pure A dogcrap. Not to mention how many times was Megatron just going to be ordered around by someone? It really should have been called Megatron is Everybody's Bitch Trilogy.

I know this is only a teaser, but I just don't like what I see because it's way too serious looking. I mean, we're talking about a series about grown ups in rainbow colored spandex that fight alien monsters, IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SUPER SERIOUS!! Hopefully the next trailer shows the fun aspects of it and that these kids lose their pretentiousness.

I see nothing with a serious take on Power Rangers as long if it's done right. RPM and Time Force did a serious story but still had humor throw in. I doubt the movie will be dark and gritty with no laughs similar to the Nolan Batman movies.

I'll wait for the movie before I make my decisions.

I do have to agree in some respects for some of the comments. There's a definite 'look' that gets adopted in a lot of these movies. I call it "Pottering". You can guess why. I do think it's possible to make a movie that actually has color in it. But the specific look stems from making the movie appear to have tension through a type of lens used. Makes it appear gritty, more 'realistic'. Unfortunately, it also gives me a massive headache, literally.

The Transformers topic belongs on TFW. I have my negative druthers about that movie franchise, and I'm a massive collector and fan, but in the grand scheme of things I'd rather treat MMPR as it's own attempt to bring this to everyone who forgot or didn't know the series. It's not just a movie for me.
