Well, the thing to realize with Mystic Goofy Whatever The Hell is that the people responsible for that were Boomer / Gen Xers with no interest in toku or even Power Rangers - I'd say they were trying to get on a D&D trip.

Today's creatives are older Millennials and younger Gen Xer's who are ALL at least aware of the basic ideas behind Power Rangers, the Sentai connection etc - with a portion of them genuinely pumped to be doing it. The show's been on long enough that they know what works. I'd imagine the real problem would be budget.

So back on topic, I heard that the Zyuoh vs Ninnin movie will be titled "A Message From Space From Super Sentai" (I know, it is redundant) so I am going to assume Kyuranger will appear while chasing after one of the mid-tier villains FROM SPACE probably.

It's actually "Dobutsu Sentai Zyuohger X Ninninger: Mirai kara no messeji from Super Sentai," which is literally, "Animal Sentai Zyuohger x Ninninger: A Message from the Future from Super Sentai."

Anything sounds serious and dark if you use the right synonyms. Ghost's main character died in the first episode, but it was handled goofily enough that it didn't feel serious or grim at all.

Doesn't alter the fact that the mecha turn into actual baby blocks. Like the numebred and lettered wooden blocks toddlers play with to learn spelling and counting. If anything that just reflects a tonal disconnect.

What is done is not nearly as important as how it is done.

I know. It's just really fun, is all. Just like making the serious Batman tales sound goofy, and the silver age shit sound super intense.

Sentai needs to pull a RPM and go mad hella dark yo. Still love RPM for what it was. Showing a kids show can be dark. Granted Japan is different and Sentai isn't power rangers (even if they occasionally give nods to each other) So who knows.

If it's from the "Future", then could this involve TimeRanger? More importantly, if the connection is valid, why in the Lost Galaxy would anyone at TOEI reference a time-traveling team which seemingly doesn't fit the crossover themes nor the "Early Bird" appearance we're banking on?

They could mean it in a more broad and literal sense in that KyuRanger are the next (or "future") Sentai.

RPM wasn't even super dark, it was just mature and took itself seriously when appropriate, but it had plenty of humour and colour.

It's not hard. Kids don't need bad acting and shitty dialogue to like things.

In general, I cannot stand Power Rangers - I'm a Sentai-only guy - but a toku-watching friend persuaded me into watching at least the first half of RPM. It's really, really good, but as I understand it, it's the closest Power Rangers has gotten to an entirely original show, since it used a minimum of Go-Onger material. The story *is* post-apocalyptic, but also often genuinely funny. Eka Darville and Rose McIver have also gone on to much more prominent work: she's the lead on iZombie!

Yeah, RPM is to me what Power Rangers should be. Mostly original stories and content, with a serious but fun tone. You can have grave, mature storylines and settings and still have heart and humour. My favourite part is when the rangers ask Doctor K why the zords have "big googly anime eyes." Yet it also did it's best to rationalize the frankly childish Sentai concepts it was forced to use.

I don't want every series to be post-apocalyptic, just of the same tone and quality.

It's like... these are all ideas that people have been fanficking for 15 years. What next? They're also cowboy and/or medieval knight rangers? :lol

The fanfickiness makes me question the validity of any of the rumors this year (other than the "Space Rangers" bit, cause it's in the name)...

Because those are, like, the most bog-standard as far as ideas go except the singers and green female thing.

Well, to be fair, most ranger fanfics love shoving in rangers as much as Kyoryuger actually did.

The singers thing is less fanfic, and more anime.

*suits have apparently been called similar to "Duel Heroes."
