As a toy, it's not bad. As a throwback to Power Rangers, no. Just...no.

I apologize, that wasn't fair of me. Maybe I'm just projecting because a large majority of people who like these designs are using the very, very fucking irritating arguement of "oh, well since you don't like these designs, you must want the movie to look like the shoe-string budget cardboard box suits of the TV show." It is the epitome of cuntish behaviour and I'm shocked at how much I'm seeing it, as if there is no middle ground between low-budget guys in bulky suits, and an overdetailed complete stylistic departure from all that's come before.

I still don't like the designs, but I'm willing to accept you like how alien they look. People who use the above arguement though, have no respect from me.

Adding a few more color details won't do anything to change your mind when it's the literal design you don't like anyway. :/ It literally has nothing to do with it.

And I'm just not thrilled with these.

Except people are saying the design itself is garbage.

And the toy is a good way to judge that.

I don't like spider mammoth or bug triceratops. It's not aesthetically pleasing or consistent with anything else presented.
I hate that they have cockpits instead of faces. The only two that try not to be fuckugly with the cockpits are the triceratops and the tiger (Though it does look like the mammoth has an eye, but considering how clustered and underpainted these things are, it's hard to tell until I can see the CG model).
I really dislike the alien aesthetic. It makes for an unwieldy design that's been so overused since the 90's that "Original" is one of the last words I can use to describe it. The final, combined megazord I still just don't like. It looked like they made every wrong choice in designing it.

Do you guys think Zordon was possibly drunk when designing the Megazord?

Zordon: "six, seven, EIGHT legs. It's got eight legs!"

The belt kinda reminds me of the Arcle from Kuuga, Agito's belt, and the Ghost driver if they got packed into one.

Also, mastodon looks more like a dustmite, rather than a spider :P

Definitely looks like a fun toy, but I think I'll pass. I do like the minifigures and the built-in compartments for them, but it's a bit larger than I would want in a non-morphing Megazord toy. Hopefully the Legacy figures will have a BAF of it.

Nothing screams impressive like a 8 minute video of a roleplay toy done with nothing but pictures.

Not meaning to throw shade or hate - but a video of nothing but pictures is just lazy. That does nothing to make me want the toy - if anything, I want someone else to do a video review of the thing in action.

I would be way too embarrassed to actually call these things zords.. I honestly don't know what they were thinking.

It's like they saw some of the backlash from movie-verse transformers designs and said "Ah-HA, that's the direction we'll go!!.. No nostalgia or recognition necessary".

Oh god, I already hate myself because I know I'm going to buy the zords anyway.
I expected some level of Michael-Bay-ing to happen to them but..not this.
Transformers: "Spinosaurus with TWO sets of spines? Sure. Tricceratops with Stegosaurus tail? Neat, let's do it. Cat ears in a T-Rex? Let's give it a try. Pteranodon? Two heads. TWO TAILS. BOOM."
Power Rangers: "Saber-tooth tiger? Let's make the fangs guns. That actually sounds pretty cool. Triceratops? Let's give it some extra legs. Mammoth? The fuck is that?"

Meh they're both arachnids so close enough.

Classic Hollywood. Just have to change things up so much of the stuff they're doing a movie on becomes unrecognizable.
Seriously...I GET the idea they want to emphasize of the Rangers' powers being alien in origin, and I was accepting of the suit changes and Rita's very Green Ranger inspired look to a degree, but these zords are just TERRIBLE. Even the Michael Bay AOE Dinobots were easier to recognize what they were supposed to be in their dino modes than these things.

Seriously, ask anyone NOT a Power Rangers fan or anyone not in the know how what the Black Ranger's zord in that photo of the toy is supposed to be. I highly doubt anyone will say Mastodon. It's a bug.

This push from Hollywood to take old properties and change them so drastically only kills them in the end. You want new fans, but you also want to keep the old fans. Otherwise, it just blows up in their faces... (Jem and the Holograms anyone?)

And I'm not trying to be a bitter old man embracing nostalgia. I was excited at the idea of an attempted revival of the Power Rangers on the big screen, but I'm just not feeling it anymore right now. Add to it being put in March for release, it seems like the studio doesn't have faith in it for the summer.

I mean, obviously, the zords they're using are really just giant-sized zecters from Kabuto.

Seriously I know we are all making bug jokes but this is a serious problem with design and i want to know who gave the ok that more= alien or worse who though Avatar was a well designed film. Don't get me wrong Ferngully meets Dances with Wolves was an interesting concept but the aliens didn't look well that alien. it look like what a 4 year would create to make it more awesome animal.

Holly black on a Popo I just realized what bothers me about this design. For a Giant Robots it doesn't look like a robots. Now here me out. Most Giant Robots either look blocky or are overly mechanical. Look at Pacific Rim it went with the over Mechanical look and it is almost perfect. But Power Ranger is banking on the alien look thus losing that Robot feel... I still don't hate the design but i'm not in love with it either.

How about wait until we see the cgi render instead of a picture of a picture of a low quality toy before making a judgement? While, yes it probably will look more alien/insectoid than an obvious mammoth, ever stop to think that maybe the version we're actually going to see on screen may just have a bit more resemblance?

Why should he? The toy's a perfect way to judge if you think the design is crap or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if the toys are more faithful to the original Megazord, like how the AOE Dinobot toys were more colouful and simplified visually compared to the CGI models.

But the simple fact is, they wouldn't make toys that weren't largely reflective of the movie deisgns. That'd defeat the entire purpose.

Yeah, the aspects we're judging the designs on aren't toy-specific. The lack of proper animal features, extra limbs, etc, aren't things that the CGI models will have that the toys don't.

Ok I like the toys of the zords but here are my issues with them:

1. The Pterodactyl looks like a flying bow or a sword with wings, I am curious if it was designed to be like the pink ranger's weapon though its most likely a coincidence

2. T-rex looks like its a robot dinosaur toy aimed to kids 7 and under

3. The hell is with the giant cannon thing on the Saber Tooth Tiger's back? Is that suppose to be the megazords weapon?

And My BIGGEST problem

4. This fucker is $100? The hell I know they are making this thing big but why? Did someone ask for this? I like the zords and their combined form but I sure as hell do not $100 like it. I mean if you are charging that much it has to have no visible hollow parts better paint, and I am sure you all can list other things. I mean I think if I pay a bit more I can get me a Fort Max.

This design is just begging for some metallic paint work and dry brushing.

Look on the bright side you don't have to pay $100 up front from what little I've read on this is set of figures you can buy separate i mean the T-Rex already went up on pre order. I read somewhere that whole set is going to be 24 inches tall combined like huge

Yeah but so does Metroplex, Fort Max, and Mattel's Voltron so you cut costs where you can. not saying it's a good thing it just happens. I might do a review on my blog when I have all of them

No, actually, none of those do. They have hollow spaces, yes, but all their limbs are fully articulated, and said spaces are usually closed off or disguised with some level of moulded detail. Metroplex/Fort Max even have articulated hands despite the cavities in them. The Saber Toothed Tiger's legs are one-piece completely empty things without even token moulded detail inside. Cerebros doesn't have unposable arms and legs. Like seriously, they're like cake moulds on the Megazord.

Also, I don't know which Voltron you're talking about, but if it's the upcoming 24 inch Voltron than holy cow you could not be more wrong.

No back about 2012 Mattel did a classic line with Lions that have cockpits and pilots and they combined to form a huge 24 inch voltron it nice but very top heavy and and weight change will throw it off balance it looks awesome pain in the ass to keep on a shelf.

That figure didn't have hollow, unposable limbs on its lions, either.

Don't forget the hollow spaces in the legs of Fort Max/Metroplex could be used in their other modes to store other figures so even if they have big hollow parts they at least used them to their advantage

The toys for this film look so cheap. I hope the Zords and morphers look better in the actual movie.
